What type of environment (ph-level, foodstuffs, etc.) makes the "bad" (smelling) oral microbes thrive?
What type of environment (ph-level, foodstuffs, etc.) makes the "good" oral microbes thrive?

Is it possible after ending an oral probiotic treatment to get a permanent lasting change of the oral balance in favour of the good bacteria?

Acids cause increasing the reduction potential in the oral environment. For this reason acidic pH, acid foods, tend to decrease Type 1 halitosis. Also metal containing foods, sulfur lover foods are tend to decrease Type 1 halitosis.

Balance in oral microbiota can not be stationary changed by external applications such as probiotics. Initial bacterial profile is immediately restored by microbial interactions when probiotics ceased.

Friends
One of you has just asked about his/her halitosis with private message. I have written a good and simple test o him.
I would like to share this test with folk
----- -copied, pasted ----------
Hi __________
Many thanks you write me
it is difficult to say the cause or location of your halitosis according to evidences you referred.

First question is whether or not you have a halitosis. The second is: its reason, third: its location if any

When you just clearly feel halitosis , you should rinse your mouth with 20mM ZnCl2 solution for 30 sec. Then, check your halitosis. If your halitosis disappears for a few hours, this means your halitosis is Type 1. Otherwise it is Type 2-5

This simple test gives a lot of information about your halitosis if any

Hi Doctor Murat. Where can I get 20mM ZnCl2 solution? Or do I have to make it myself? Thanks1

Murat, you worked on halitosis research. Do you have colleagues from different specialities to help us? Most doctors just shrugged off our problem. We really need honest feedback and a helping hand to find the cause. I can travel and pay if it's within my means.

I do not know Geoffrey.
Public laws may restrict trade of chemical substance in some countries.
Here, in Turkiye, I order Zinc chloride 1 kg powder on the net from Istanbul company: http://www.tekkim.com.tr/en/urunler.php or http://www.bereketkimya.com/home/en

Do you mean "decrease" or "increase"?

Would zinc tablet and table salt dissolve in water work if we cannot get ZnCl?

There are some redox reactions on mucosal surfaces in the mouth if type 1 halitsois present. (Kleinberg I, 2002)

- if Eh (reduction potential of biological environment) increases, then, type 1 halitosis decreases
- if pH becomes acid then Eh increases , thus, halitosis decreases.
in opposite:
- if pH becomes alkalin then halitosis increases

Chewing or swallowing Zinc containing tablets can not help

Hi Dr. Murat! Let’s carry on our conversation here for the general interest as you said, I had a few more questions if you could help! Basically since it seems that most people don’t know where to buy a znCl2 pure mouthwash (with no sweeteners and such) how can we make the solution ourselves? I saw on amazon that they sell a znCl2 bottle, it is 500g of Zinc Chloride supplied in very strong HDPE bottle or so the description says, its active ingredient seems to be zinc chloride but I don’t know if it would be safe to dilute it in water or what not? Do you have any idea how else we can make our formula if we cannot get a znCl2 mouthwash ?

Hi Dr. Murat,

ive been reading about your classification of bad breath, in particular type 1 Halitosis. From my understanding (correct me if im wrong), Type 1 halitosis will temporarily gone/masked for 2-4 hours with Zinc solution? But here is my question, is there perhaps a way to transform/restore our imbalance in our mouth permanently into a healthy, and balanced mouth flora just like a normal person? Not just by covered it up with Zinc and after few hours the bad breath will come back.

Thanks for your attention Dr. Murat
