Back from Surgery!! Tonsillectomy

Post by Born To Suffer »

Hey guys,

Back from surgery and I'd thought I'd do a quick update while it's sill fresh in my head.
As many of you know I had my wisdoms removed, and it did improve my breath a lot. But at the same time I have yellow stuff leaking from the wisdom site. As it turns out, it wasn't from the wisdom BUT FROM THE TONSILS.
I went in for surgery yesterday and came back today. The ENT said I was strong, I didn't even use the morphine, which I totally forgot about. I was even smiling, which was a first since he had met patients with a gloomy face after tonsillectomy. What can I say I feel so dizzy, but am in no pain. The ENT said the pain would pick up around day 3-5. Well I'm very nervous about that.
I asked about the tonsils and they were badly infected. He said that the crypts weren't too deep, and wasn't infected badly. However he did say on the left side when he picked up the tonsils there was a HUGE infection. It was all yellow, no wonder why I'm not cured from wisdoms. He said it used to be a fungus but now it's classified as a bacterial infection. He said there are no antibiotics against it. He couldn't 100% confirm if the infection would go away, because the area is still raw. Oh bloody hell. I hope my body fights it. There is a name for it, I forgot what he said, but I'll ask him again next time I see him.
As for adenoids, apparently when you get older the adenoids disappears by itself. He said he couldn't see anything.

My breath seems to have improved a bit, but still too early to say.

The smell used to be very fishy, like rotten fish, but at times when I stick my tongue out, it smells like fart/poo. I just hope it's not h.plyori or some other shit like TMAU.
Now: I don't know what it smells like because I have a cold so my nose is kinda blocked.
Well whatever I'm so sick of bb, I just want to go die.

DAY 3: not much pain, but swallowing saliva/water is a pain.
Today I coughed up some mucus and it did clear my breath a bit. My god what a stink,
Can anyone with experience give me some more info on tonsillectomy? How long will I see a change in odour?

okay after doing some research I found out what I had, Streptococcus, apparently there is NO CURE FOR THIS. NO ANTIBIOTICS WILL CURE THIS. A possible method would be tonsillectomy, although the infection can still occur after removal. scary shit.

Those who suffer from nasal odor, should take a look at tonsils/adenoids being infected. My tonsils did not smell after rubbing them, they weren't really cryptic, but then again there are some things that is hard to see with he naked eye.
The ENT DIDN'T see the infection prior to surgery, until he picked up my tonsils. He was like "whoa wtf?"

DANGER: even removing tonsils strep can spread to other areas of body. Which could be why people have TMAU, or some bad body odor.

FK this world, this filthy place we have created causes nothing but disease. I'm hating life right now.

Congrats on the tonsil removal, hope it solves your problems.

Do you feel better knowing you will no longer have dirty tonsils and stones collecting in there?

Hope everything's still going ok, hopefully you'll be all better soon :)

Had no idea about that streptococcus, this is interesting. Think I need another gp appointment to try and get to see an ENT specialist.

Anyway keep us updated :)

@FedUp, my throat used to taste horrible, now it's still bad, but not as bad. A very bitter sour taste. If I didn't lie about getting tonsillitis about 5-6 times a year I would never have gotten this surgery. It just goes to show that surgery is necessary regardless of tonsillitis.
I hope you are getting your surgery soon.

@time4change, streptococcus can either be white or yellow. Do you feel a sour taste coming from tonsils?

Day 4: woke up with a very sore throat, ENT said that day 3-5 would be the worst, then the pain would go down. I'm not going to lie the smell has improved a lot, however whether it completely goes away we'll never know.

Ugh the mouth is a dirty place, after getting all sorts of diseases, I'm going to say "no thank you" to oral kissing. Who knows what disease I can give the other person and vice versa? I'm going to find someone I can be happy with without lusting.

Born to suffer, my right tonsil has small stones, always feels a bit sore, and has stinky yellowish liquid come out if I squeeze it. But the left side is ok.

I uploaded my X-ray of my teeth a couple of weeks ago, both my top and bottom wisdom teeth on right side are impacted worse than the left side. I'm booked in to remove them in a couple of weeks and am hoping this is the cause of my tonsil problems. One theory is that my teeth are rotten/ infected under the gum and the bacteria is coming out through my tonsils, but don't know if this could actually happen or if its true.

Anyway ill definitely be getting tonsils out if my teeth extraction doesn't cure bb, I'm willing to get a loan to pay for it as doctors won't do it.

I can't imagine how painful it is, some people have said its excruciating, and better to get it done whilst you're young. So I hope your not in too much pain but after 2 weeks you should be loads better from what I've heard.

The taste in your mouth getting better is a great sign, have you got someone you could confirm your bb with when you're recovered?

Yeah kissing is like a party for germs I guess, I don't do it anyway as my bb is so bad :)

@time4change, lol my theory is completely opposite of yours. I believe that the infection in the gum is caused by the bacteria in the tonsils. I can confirm this because I had all top left teeth removed as a young child, so for years I only chew with the right side. So it can't be food trapped under the gums that causes the infection because I don't chew with the left side. The left side was deeply infected, both tonsil and gum.
We can't really be sure what goes on in our body.

Nah the pain is okay, nothing to be scared about. Just make sure you are in good health before going into surgery.
I will know when my breath is good, because I won't have this awful sour taste in my mouth.
Like 1-2 hours after brushing my teeth my mouth doesn't stink, but this smelly sour liquid slowly leaks into my mouth. I think it's the mucus, like when I cough it's really really sour.

Even when my bb is good, kissing is a nono. I can't imagine getting germs, since I have a weak body, it's good to take extra precautions. But when I do get cured, I look forward to talking to people without those stupid reactions.

time4change, my main culprit wisdom tooth was on my right side and I also had worse tonsil odour and more stones on my right side.

I've always wondered whether that was just a coincidence, or whether this was related in some way.

The smells were very similar. But because I had my tonsils out before my wisdom tooth, i'll never know whether it was a coincidence or not.

My conclusion is that if the tonsil odour/stones were anything to do with my wisdom tooth on my right side, then it was simply because the discharge from that tooth was getting onto my tongue and then through swallowing and movement etc, was finding it's way into the tonsil crypts on my right tonsil.

update: Day 5, hm... the pain is average, nothing to complain about. Coughing and eating is a bit painful. This morning I woke up with terrible bb, way worse than the rest of the other days. Oh I want to give up so bad.
When I was younger I had terrible bb, yet I had great spirit, now days it's bearable but already I feel so tired.

Give it a few more days and it will be over, pain and all that and hopefully BB. It's normal that your breath is awful now because a white tissue (something like that) is forming and covering your wounds and it will disappear in few days.

@Sickandtired, lol that's how I'm feeling right now. Now I know why my breath is stinking so bad, it's cause of the stones. Every time I cough I feel a small lump of cr@p on my tongue and I know it's a freaking tonsil stone. Dang it smells so bad. It smells exactly like when you scrap off tartar off your teeth. Even my saliva smells like that. Eww.
Its good to know the stones are falling off but I pray some of it doesn't get stuck in my lungs...
I'm amazed to see the very far back of my tongue isn't coated white. It used to be heavily coated now just a thin layer.
Well it's day 5, if I'm not cured by day 8, I guess I'll demand for metronidazole.

i'd give it a good few weeks before seeing if you've been cured. my doc told me I should 2 weeks at the most out of work after the op. it will be interesing to see if your white coating completely clears away. oh btw did you ever have any sinus issues? if so you could get a ct scan of the sinuses just to be thorough.

@FedUp, I've read a lot of posts and it seems most infection doesn't take longer than 8 days to heal. If longer it might be something else.
I don't think I have nasal odor, I did when I was a kid, but I had a surgery to remove the pnd/cyst. So glad that nightmare is over. I don't think it's stomach related because the odour comes from tonsil/wisdoms area, very sour. I just need some meds to kill to infection.

Day 6, woke up coughing, wow coughing is a beech. Very painful. Yep my tongue is nice and red. Taking out wisdoms cured half the tongue, taking out tonsils cured the other half the tongue. I touched the left side and it's still smelly as fk. My breath is much better than yesterday thank god.

Skin condition: my skin looks so MUCH better since removing my wisdoms. For example my nose, it use to be so red, full of small acne cysts, but now it's nice and soft. Even my skin looks nice after not having a BM for a few days, (gross I know), or maybe it's because I've been sleeping like a pig?

Even if taking out w/t doesn't cure my bb I don't regret a second of it because it's was carrying a lot of toxins. So for me the surgery is totally worth it.

I noticed some changes to my skin too, after I had my wisdom tooth out and there was a big reduction in the amount of odour that would normally appear on my tongue. One thing especially, was that my skin always had a strange smell to it, my arms and the tops of my hands, for no apparent reason. I never smell that any more. And my skin is slightly more supple and less wrinkled.

Dr Aydinmur said that it's wrong to make another person breathe in bad breath gases (for testing purposes) because some of them are toxic gases. I'm not sure which one, but I think it's hydrogen sulphide, is highly toxic. If we're producing high levels of these gases, and breathing them down into our lungs or swallowing the chemicals that get produced in the mouth and throat, that's bound to have some toxicity level in our body and effect our organs that normally deal with toxicity.

That's what I've put it down to anyway.
