Do you think a flip turn sinus flush containing antibiotics would be more effective, if it is the sinuses that are the problem? Just throwing an idea out there.

I, myself, believe that the reason antibiotics only work temporarily for us is because our natural oral flora is restored soon after. I read that the human oral microbiole is very resistant - as we are constantly eating so being exposed to new bacteria etc and it remains the same. My hope is now pinned on the Oral Microbiota Transplant becoming a reality.

Antibiotics do cure sinus infections but they take a longer duration on antibiotics than most other infections due to the blood flow problem. Also if you can't drain them properly or have stubborn biofilms it won't work either. I have chronic sinusitis and have had it since my BB started in childhood so I am going to try my best to clear that up, assuming it's of bacterial origin.

I'd love to use a topical antibiotic in a sinus flush but I can't get my hands on one, and there's no guarantee it would penetrate the biofilm anyway. I just looked into alternatives and found this: http://www.omaha.com/livewellnebraska/h ... 4ac1e.html

Baby Shampoo + Xylitol sinus rinse to break down biofilm + oral Antibiotics = chronic sinusitis cured

Looks like I'll be adding those two ingredients! Awesome.

I just realised that if you want to repopulate your oral microbes then rather than kissing you would need the donor to scrape their tongue and give you the bacterial coating to rub over your tongue,

A bit gross, but wouldn’t you agree that makes more sense?

:)

It would probably be more effective if this were to work at all. Just significantly more disgusting. I'd rather swallow a poop pill..

Then again other people's tongue coatings are probably pretty tame compared to how ours get.

If it was a sure fire cure I’d do it every day for a month.

I’d be happy and grateful.

I can admit it’s incredibly gross though. lol

It's been 3 hours since I made that last post...

Now I'm thinking about trying it for real. I don't want to - it's gross as ***k.

But I have a husband who will donate his tongue scrapings - ewww... so as long as I don't puke I could actually try this.

In regards to killing my current oral flora - I don't think I would bother, when fecal transplants are done no 'killing' prep is performed, so I doubt this is necessary...

Tell me, what do you think?

I think that's a great idea. I have thought of doing that as well but i don't know who i could ask.
About killing your own flora, i think it would be enough to just scrape off your own tongue coating first, before applying the new one.
Then let the new one sit for as long as possible, and don't brush your teeth that day.

It’s so gross.

Anyway, it’s 10.40pm here now.

I’m going to sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

I think you'd be a hero for testing it out for us! If it worked then you could start a home business selling your husband's tongue scrapings. Win, win!

I thought you were serious until the last sentence.

I once had a boyfriend with even clearer breath than my husband. Damn, I wish I could use his scrapings instead. He literally *never* had bb. Not even in the mornings, never.

Lucky dude.

Some people just don't know how lucky they are.

It was a bit cheeky but I was being serious. If it cured you I would literally pay for his tongue scrapings, as would many other desperate members here.

Just like how people pay for other people's poop with fecal transplants. A cure is a cure, right?

Hi there,

The anti-biotis worked only during the time of taking it for me.

I had similar problems where my breath smelled and some people when came in contact had alergic sneezing. The problem was to do with the bad bacteria in the gut. "Acidophilus" or similar good bateria (pro-biotic) supplement helped me with this problem. Remeber to balane with yogurt or other tummy soothing food as these supplements would bring burnning sensation.

Good Luck
Mariyan

I've spent 10's of thousands on treatments, surgeries, doctor visits at home and abroad, and tried everything posted here with no lasting results. I'm so maladjusted and out of touch with reality at this point that I am desperate enough to try anything.

Below is my last resort treatment plan that I am about to undergo. I am posting it here mostly to organize my own thoughts, but I absolutely appreciate and encourage any feedback, advice or warnings. I've considered doing this for years after having read several reports of heavy antibiotic use curing chronic BB, but never tried it because of the risks and the difficulty of obtaining the required drugs and in the required amounts. In hindsight, I feel extremely stupid for not having done this before I'd already wasted so much time. The risks seem entirely negligible compared to the emotional pain and isolation I've gone through and all the wasted years that will never come back to me. Not to even mention the rough uncharted path to becoming "normal" that lies ahead of this curse.

Disclaimer:
I am not giving medical advice or recommending anyone to follow what I am about to post. There are major risks involved beyond the obvious of just completely trashing your body's bacterial balance. There are serious potential side effects including neural toxicity, liver damage, or even allergic reactions leading to anaphylactic shock. Don't take any drugs that weren't prescribed to you by a doctor.

I am basing everything on the assumption that my BB is caused by my chronic sinusitis, resulting in either
A) mucous to putrify in the sinuses and drip into the throat
or
B) post nasal drip feeding bad bacteria originating in the mouth, either from unbalanced flora or some hidden source of infection such as an abscess

The drugs below were selected for a combined attack on dental abscesses, sinusitis and any gut related issues. Interestingly, this is nearly the same triple therapy used for h. pylori infections. However, the duration is several times longer. I tested negative, but if there's something going on down there then this should take care of it.

I am starting a 6 week treatment consisting of:
Amoxicillin + Clavulanic Acid - 500mg/125mg three times daily
Also known as Augmentin. Well tolerated & extremely popular. Moderate spectrum antibiotic. First line of defense against sinusitis
Metronidazole - 400mg three times daily - discontinue after 2 weeks
Also known as Flagyl. Rather harsh drug with many side effects & an FDA issued cancer warning. Eliminates anaerobic bacteria. Great for dental abscesses and gut issues
Fluconazole - 100mg orally every 72 hours then 100mg once daily for the final week
Anti-fungal that prevents yeast/fungal overgrowth from antibiotic use
Oral probiotics - 1 lozenge 3x daily in final week and for 2 weeks after
Anything containing high quantities of BlisK12 or S. Salivarius
Necessary to give good bacteria a head start once the antibiotics wear off
Will NOT swallow or an overgrowth of oral bacteria may occur in gut
Example Product: NOW OralBiotic Blis K12
Intestinal probiotics
25+ Billion multi-strain for maximum effectiveness. Probiotic yogurts too
Probiotic use while on antibiotics has been proven to reduce side effects and will help regenerate a healthy flora if taken afterwards as well
Example Product: NOW Probiotic-10 25 Billion
Sinus Decongestants
Sinuses must remain open to allow drainage of any infected mucous
Example Products: Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed), Caffeine Pills
Sinus Rinses
Standard flip-turn sinus flush performed at least once daily
Optionally may add a few drops of Oregano oil or GSE as an additional topical antibacterial & antifungal
Anti-Inflammatory Diet
Must continue eating healthy and keep sugars to a minimum. Crucial to eat clean while flora is being reset
Prebiotics

I will begin next week once I have all the supplies in hand. Hoping at the very least I will get to enjoy my first 6 weeks without halitosis since childhood. The true test is whether or not it remains cleared up which is a nail biting few months away.

Wish me luck, and keep your chins up! Someday we'll find our cure. We have to believe that.

Just a quick update. Been using the J&J baby shampoo + xylitol rinse for the last few days trying to prep as best I can for the antibiotics.

First thing to mention is that this is a surprisingly effective rinse. I've had almost zero relief from sinus irrigation in the past. Just made my sinuses full of water and take a whole day to blow out since they were still so blocked. Congestion symptoms actually got worse and PND/BB was unchanged.

The last two days I'd say this rinse has reduced my BB significantly as well as my PND. Not many things can do this for me so this is huge! Woke up with zero morning breath, no tongue coating throughout entire day, and my typical oral cleansing regimen is now much more effective, perhaps doubling the time I feel "BB free" or more.

HOWEVER. The last time I rinsed (using the same mixture ratio used in the baby shampoo sinus rinse study here) it burned so badly it was like snorting alcohol. I lost my sense of smell for about an hour afterwards. Really scared me! In my panic I took a big whiff of coffee grounds and smelled NOTHING. I googled and found out that this is actually one of the main reasons NeilMed removed their SinuSurf product from the market, which had the exact same ingredients as the J&J baby shampoo.

A previous version of SinuSurf was on the market from 2011-2012; however, it was removed from the market due to anecdotal reports of concerns regarding pain, dryness, and temporary alteration of sense of smell. While no reports of permanent alteration of sense of smell have been received, NeilMed wishes to assess the tolerability and safety of a revised, lower-concentration formulation of SinuSurf prior to re-introduction in the market.

There are quotes online linking to a now removed PDF hosted on NeilMed's website that stated the loss of smell could last "months to years" but I can no longer find any concrete source of this.

It was a very short term study and in my opinion it could be easily permanently diminishing the sense of smell by a small amount each use. Nobody knows why this happens. Long term safety studies are needed! Please be very careful! No smell means no taste either.

Of course this won't stop me from using it. Not with those results.. But I am worried to say the least. Will be using MUCH lower concentrations than what is recommended online going forward.
