Bad breath from wisdom teeth infection, pericoronitis

Post by AnswerSeeker »

Hello guys,

I'd like to give you guys insight on how I may (still in recovery) have beaten BB.

It started 4 months ago when I realized people were turning away from me when I talked or rubbed their noses. 3 months ago that's when I realized it was getting worse as I felt like people sitting in front of me would get out off. Mind you I am trying my hardest to breath through my nose too! Then, 2 months in, it became atrocious that I would fill up a room with BB and people would cough, sneeze, or drink water around me.

I'd like to note that I spent these previous months actually improving my dental hygiene, flossing, brushing, tongue cleaner & mouthwash. Nothing helped! So many times reading articles online: is it from my stomach(bad posture and childhood mouthbreathing, lungs, throat, nose, mouth? I was flustered so I finally took a stand and went to get help (even though it was hard to be around anyone due to the embarrassing BB)

I went to urgent care and they diagnosed my white tongue and blocked nasal passages as Oral Thrush and Post Nasal Drip. I was given medications and it worked for my blocked nasal passages (although I think when I started exercising it helped more. Now, the white tongue just kept coming back real fast after a couple hours. I thought I had found Thrush as the problem so I thought the problem was that it was deep in my throats bc of a constant soreness in my Adam's apple area.

Unfortunately, my breath still smelled bad, so I went to a primary care physician. The Dr couldn't not find anything abnormal in my throat and did not know why my breath smelled horrid through mouth and nose. My Thrush had subsided bc I stopped eating anything sugar or carbs. She did blood tests and I was normal. Later she gave me a referral to an ear, nose, throat specialist. (Which I have not gone yet; reason is the next paragraph)

Days after that visit and still frustrated, i started using a metal pick for the teeth and started cleaning my right wisdom teeth. That's when I had an eureka moment. I could just smell it despite that we normally wouldn't smell our own breath. I kept scooping and cleaning it even with a waterpik (best investment ever, recommend). Immediately that day, the white tongue had really went down, still some but not at the same level and the soreness I felt around my Adam's apple area felt better too. I kept doing it and I noticed that people weren't put off as much.

I thought I had found the answer but sadly I still realized that the smell is still present. Not as strong anymore but present. So I finally went to the dreaded dentist (been there only once), got my teeth cleaned and the Dentist recommended to take out my wisdom teeth since it is impacted and agreed that food was getting trapped under there. Even though I cleaned it, it's still hard to clean around my wisdom tooth bc 3/4 of the flap is over it and i can't clean the sides bc it hurts (still bleeds too).

Fast forward to the present yesterday, I finally went to the oral surgeon gave him the history I just told you guys and we proceeded with the operation. After waking up from anesthesia and going to the pharmacy (though I'm woozy), I realized that people weren't having the same reactions I had with the BB (even when I had closed mouth). My friend who drove me also the same, he wasn't covering his nose anymore. I haven't yet mustered the courage to straightforwardly ask if my breath stinks and I know that it's common to have BB after the surgery (can't brush, rinse, mouthwash until after day 1 + care is needed after first few days to ensure blood clot doesn't detach)

So this is 12 hours from my wisdom teeth removal, and I'll keep you guys updated about my situation. Other people don't usually come back after a week which isn't reassuring for results, but I'll be active for 2-3 weeks giving status report.

As for donating, I would love to donate for giving my advice and perspective, but as a college student with primary income from FA and getting my wallet ransacked ($750 copay even with a $1000 maximum from insurance!), I cannot afford. So to return my gratitude, instead I want to give you guys an insight to what may be a success story. Stay tuned!

Please let us know how you got on. Sounds almost exactly like my own wisdom tooth story.
