Dont give up on your future career. Everyday is going to be tough so why not live a sucsesful life with bad breath instead of living the life of a failure with the addition of bad breath. You only get one life so make the best of it by any means necessary.

Introduction
------------------
Hello everyone, some of you may remember me from the Tonsil and Adenoid Surgery thread I created last November that included my first five updates in my bad breath journey and if you havent seen my first 5 updates already here is the link to see them (Link: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6614 ). I promised a lot of you including myself that I will never stop searching for a cure that may help so many of us and here I am with another update.

I estimate that I’ve had bad breath since I was 8 years old (15 years), I’m 23 now. And up until I turned 17 years old my bad breath became chronic, could no longer be masked by gum and became severely bad in smell to where it was no longer bearable to most people. Its been almost two years since I started my bad breath journey and have been actively looking for a cure for my severe chronic bad breath every day. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a cure.

What I have noticed is that my bad breath continues to get worse in smell, distance, radius and the time frame of lingering year by year. At this point I can confirm without a doubt that my bad breath can reach 20+ feet in a matter of 3 seconds and can linger for more than 10 seconds each time at any distance within reach. And the radius of my bad breath is up to about 5 feet. Also, I noticed my bad breath gets worse if I talk a lot or if I'm hungry. The sad part is I have yet to find anything that can temporarily mask my bad breath, let alone find a cure for it. The reason why I created this thread is so that I can receive advice from you all on what I should do next and to also give other people who want to learn from the steps I have taken in my bad breath journey that may help or cure you in your bad breath journey. Also, I won’t mind if people use my information for their scientific studies or political agendas.

Below I listed every prescription, test, procedure and surgery relatable to my bad breath journey that I have completed with the addition of what I plan on doing next. If you have any questions about any those things feel free to ask me or if you recommend I try/do something please let me know. Also, if you have any questions about your bad breath journey that I could help with feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to answer you soon. Keep in mind I am not an expert so a lot of answers may be based on assumptions or from what I’ve heard/seen or experienced myself.

My Rant (This part is not important so feel free to skip this entire section)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About a week ago I ran into a girl at school that I liked but rarely talked to. The last time I seen or heard from her was last semester we had a math class together and I could tell she liked me too because she use to look and stare at me a lot. And she would find ways to try to talk or get close to me in class and I did everything I could to avoid her because of my bad breath. And let me tell you this girl is a ten out of ten, with no flaws that the eye can see. She is intelligent, career oriented, mature, independent, gorgeous, laidback and one year younger than me. Last semester after I got my tonsils and adenoids removed in November I told myself if this surgery cures my bad breath I’m going to talk to that girl and get to know her but sadly surgery didn’t cure me. Fast forward to this semester, a couple of weeks ago I ended up running into that girl again at school and this time she would not let me avoid her. And we talked for an hour straight, but I kept my distance and avoided talking to her directly because I didn’t want to scare her away with my bad breath. I became even more paranoid when she told me she was going to school to be a dental hygienist. Then she asked me to have lunch with her and that’s where things went bad. I couldn’t say no because I already told her I had nothing left to do that day but I knew I would end up sitting directly across from her and sure enough as we had lunch I sat across from her and the whole time I could see she was trying to cover her nose in a nice way, I knew my bad breath was getting to her. And guess what, afterwards I never heard from her again. And I wasn’t even disappointed, I just laughed because this bad breath is affecting my life beyond what I could ever have imagined.

Woman like her approach me all the time and I try to avoid them all the time because every time they smell my bad breath I never hear from them again. And I been out with a few girls previously but that girl was the only one that really got to me because I wanted to see where things can go with her instead of just trying to smash. And I know so many of you male/female are having similar social issues as myself but you know we just got to stay faithful, mentally sound and committed to finding our cure no matter how hard things can be. I have no friends, no social life, no love life but I will never contemplate s*****e. Trust me there are people living with much worse conditions than us. Personally, I’ve been dealing with chronic sleep paralysis with the addition of severe hypnagogic hallucinations my entire life and honestly I’d rather live a life of bad breath than to live a life with the type of sleep paralysis I experience. If you ever seen Insidious the first movie then you’ll have a somewhat idea of what sleep paralysis with severe hypnagogic hullicinations look like, the movie is based on the little boy and the father experiencing that same thing. Now obviously none of that stuff translates from the mind to the real world like the movie shows but you get my point. My apologies for going off topic, I just wanted you all to know just because you have bad breath doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world, it just means you have to adjust.

Even after doing all this the only thing that has improved my bad breath slightly was by removing all four of my wisdom teeth. And that’s not to say that I’ve wasted my time and money because beyond the bad breath I have improved my health in so many ways and I plan to continue to do so. However, my main concern will always be my bad breath because of how bad it affects my quality of life. What sucks is that I was adopted and I have no connection with my birth parents or family which could answer the question is what I’m experiencing hereditary because no one In my adoption/current family but me is experiencing this bad breath curse. A lot of my health problems could be attributed to the unknown lifestyle that my birth parents lived. Nevertheless, I will continue to look for my bad breath cure. Again, if you guys/gals have any questions feel free to post on this thread or private message me and I will contact you all soon.

Wow that is a lot. All I miss here is juicing, candida, detox, no sugar, no wheat diet stuff like that. Did you ever see a naturopath?
I have this white coating too. It improves with juicing and absolutely no sugar
Sorry for the pretty girl and the lunch date. That is heart breaking.

I appreciate the concern and the advice but im done trying to find a solution, im ok with the fact that some people can smell my breath and some people cant. Unfortunately, the girl I went on a lunch date with was one who can smell my breath but fortunately I recently started dating a girl I like. Im not sure if she can smell my breath but she never hesitates to kiss me, nor does she make any convincing reactions that would indicate my breath is bothering her when we talk face to face or in our cars.

Hi there,

I had similar problems where my breath smelled and some people when came in contact had alergic sneezing. The problem was to do with the bad bacteria in the gut. "Acidophilus" or similar good bateria (pro-biotic) supplement helped me with this problem. Remeber to balane with yogurt or other tummy soothing food as these supplements would bring burnning sensation.

Good Luck and Stay Strong

Some sufferers have met up. For some reason, everyone couldn't smell each other. I can't understand this part. Unless everyone has the same type and intensity of BB, how come our noses filtered out the smell? Some claimed to have BO too, but no one could smell it. To add on to the mystery, we have no problem smelling some other strangers with BO and BB on public transportation and so on.

How did your mom know she has BB?

UPDATE 7

It’s been a while since I’ve been active on this website. I came to the realization that I don’t have bad breath but I do suffer from Halitophobia. I came back to this website to say a lot you don’t have chronic bad breath, it’s all in your head(Halitophobia).

I advise many of you to ask your coworkers, peers, friends and family if they can smell your breath. It may be an awkward question but you can make it less awkward. What I do is I go up to people who I talk to regularly and take them to the side and I get close to their face like I’m about to tell them something really serious and I just say “I need you to help me out, I’m about to go visit this girl tonight after work/school. And I was wondering if I should go home first to brush my teeth before I go see her, does my breath smell bad or can you smell it.” I find that this is the best way to ask someone if your breath smells because if your breath do smell they will feel inclined to tell you so you won’t ruin your alleged date. And that way they won’t feel bad about telling you if your breath really does smell. And it’s important when you do this to get real close to their face so they can determine if your breath smells. I’ve asked this question to well over ten different people in the past year who I have talked to regularly and not one have said they can smell my breath.

Nowadays I just focus on making sure my clothes don’t smell. The reason why I say that is because I work in a casino so I go home smelling like a human cigarette not realizing because I’ve grown use to the smell and I don’t smoke at all. So now I wash my clothes more frequently and never wear the same clothes I wear to work, outside of work. In addition, I live in Las Vegas where the heat is well over 100 degrees on a daily which cause people to sweat and produce certain body odors so I tend to wash my clothes more frequently because of that too and I like to freshen up at times throughout the day, other than doing it only during my morning hygiene routine.

There’s really not much else I can say other than I would advise many of you to stop wasting your time going to various doctors and researching for a cure that doesn’t exist for a disease that doesn’t exist. Also, stop spending your hard earned money on useless products. All that stuff is doing is making you people feel hopeless and depressed. Some of you really need to go to therapy or at least need to stop believing every reaction someone makes is sign that your breath smells. However, I definitely recommend you all to take care of your oral hygiene by going to the dentist regularly for cleaning and checkups, getting rid of your cavities, getting rid of impacted/infected/dead teeth. I also recommend you all to remove the silver filling in your teeth if you have any and replace with white/composite fillings but that’s just a personal preference.

I’ve been struggling with Halitophobia for almost a decade and because of that over the years my personality has diminished and now I’m in the rehabilitation stage by trying to build by confidence up again. So many of my years was wasted on this issue and I will not let another year be wasted on this issue again and I hope you all won’t contine to waste your time/years trying to find a cure when most you don’t even have a disease/chronic bad breath.

Thank you for your update life_goes_on, I think you are right in suggesting that not every reaction such as sneezing or nose rubbing or even sniffing through your nose is a clear reaction to bb, I should know because I instinctively do these things at times whilst in the car with others or just during a conversation without really thinking about it and none of the people I know have chronic bb so these reactions at least from my part are very subconscious, I think unless someone explicitly states you have bb or strongly hints at it (and by strongly hints I mean you hear them talk to someone else about it or they suddenly say they smell “something” when you start talking) then there is use in easing up on the reactions, depending on their level of strength, it is hard to live with this and not be at least slightly bothered by someone covering their nose or sniffing when you’ve had to live with this constant fear for years guess your mind just doesn’t let you get a break sometimes. I am curious as to when you realised your bb was halitophobia and not real, i understand you asked people but what gave you the confidence in the first place? Did you just get fewer and fewer moments of distress? I am glad to hear you are cured, you can look ahead to beautiful times without this crippling problem (or phobia as you’ve explained some of us may have)

Hello Life_goes_On, first of all,i would like to say i like your courage because a majority of people battling with bad breath will not attempt go to such extent.

Well, After reading ythe first post.i wanted to advice you not to stay away from yr family and close friends b/c this same people sometime help's to motivate us despite the problem.

Personally, i humbly accept the problem while in search of perfect solution. Considering your age and when you started suffering from this problem, i don't think your bb can extend upto to a distance of 50 feet. I doubt this.

I think i had suffered same problem longer then you do and my bb hardly extend to 10 meter. Well, it also depend on the medication(s) which you've been using uptil date. And, the level of self-esteem when in midst of people.

I've never lost any friend due to my bad breath sometime's, i just prefer not to engage in discussion with them.
Most of friend's knows that i'm that my breath is bad but, this does not stop them from coming to me neither does it stop me from engaging in long discussion whenever such need arises.

Yes, we all have to carry this cross, whenever people tend to twithdraw backward's and try to flip or cover their nose during conversation.

Final note, i believe i'm more comfortable in front of those who are already aware of the fact that my breath is bad than meeting first time visitor's who are yet to find out about my problem

"...she was going to school to be a dental hygienist..."

Also, i think your school girlfriend could be a great help if, only you can open up or pick up the courage to talk to her especially when she said she would like to become a dental hygienist. Now, that she already know about your bb.

So, why not talk to her and take the opportunity to ask her one or more question! Who know's ......

By The way, i forgot to mention this earlier. i like your forum nickname.

Regard's

I realized my bad breath problem was Halitophobia after I went to go visit my mom and talked to her. The minute she said she couldn’t smell anything made me want to ask other people if they could smell anything and sure enough not one person has confirmed they can even smell my breath. Then I just started to look at peoples reactions and most the people who were covering their nose at my job did that because of the smoking environment. Other times I realized people naturally react without having anything to react to, it’s just a natural reaction type of thing.

Some people may have reacted to me at school because I would sometimes wear the same jacket to school at work and I never realized how heavy of a smoke smell it had because of working in a casino. And I wouldn’t say I’m cured because I still suffer from Halitophobia but I am currently rehabilitating my personality but honestly I don’t think my confidence/personality will ever be where it use to be.

And your right someone has to explicitly tell you your breath is bad in order to really know so with that being said has anyone ever specifically told you you had bad breath? And have you asked anyone about your breath?

Final note, i believe i'm more comfortable in front of those who are already aware of the fact that my breath is bad than meeting first time visitor's who are yet to find out about my problem

"...she was going to school to be a dental hygienist..."

Also, i think your school girlfriend could be a great help if, only you can open up or pick up the courage to talk to her especially when she said she would like to become a dental hygienist. Now, that she already know about your bb.

So, why not talk to her and take the opportunity to ask her one or more question! Who know's ......

By The way, i forgot to mention this earlier. i like your forum nickname.

As for the girl I met while in school, you just had to remind me about her lol. I honestly believe my breath could have smelled bad that day and that can be due to two things, one I was still within a few months of my Tonsil/Adenoid surgery as I said before that surgery my breath worse, and two I was taking/experimenting on a lot of products and medications at the time which could have threw my body out of whack. In addition, i know I use to wear this black jacket all the time to work and outside of work. I never truely realized how bad that jacket smelled because of the heavy smoke smell on that jacket I got from working in a casino until someone mentioned it to me.

As far as getting in contact with her, the problem is I don’t have her phone number anymore. And even if I did have her number there would be no need in me asking her if my breath smelled that day because it’s actually pretty natural for people’s breath to smell sometimes.

And previously I talked about two of my coworkers breath would smell bad from time to time but in no way did either of them have chronic bad breath. Therefore, I only ask people who I have talked to face to face many times because they will know if my breath smell bad on a daily. And so far I asked over ten people and I get the same answer, no one can even smell my breath.

I notice how you said most of your friends know you got bad breath. How exactly do you know you friends know you got bad breath?

I am glad to hear you are cured, you can look ahead to beautiful times without this crippling problem (or phobia as you’ve explained some of us may have)
I realized my bad breath problem was Halitophobia after I went to go visit my mom and talked to her.

Yeah I am fairly sure I have it, not sure on its intensity and range though, mine seems to luckily(?) only be detected from a close to mid range although I am under the impression it is getting worse lately... I am not sure if it’s as chronic as I think it is though because I don’t always get reactions (by this I mean people handing out gum or stepping back and such) but there have been a fair amount of occasions that makes me fairly sure I have it at least 80% of the time also people might just be nice or maybe because I hang with different people some are more tolerant whilst some aren’t either way I know my bb has a “fecal” or “fart” smell to it as my best friend told me as a “joke” (I kind of got it out from her as we were “playing” a game of playful comebacks) it’s rare for people to tell me directly that my breath smells, to this day I don’t recall anyone telling me directly, but there have been a few instances where i’ve Been reassured I have it and it’s not in my head by actions as well as my little cousin saying how it smelled of “poo” and that was right after I opened my mouth to speak she is only young so I don’t think she’d just say that, I like to be rational about this, as far as I am aware I don’t have nasal bb (if I do people do a great job at not reacting to it) and never had complaints of BO so I am pretty sure mine is not a systemic problem but who knows. My worst fear is if it eventually turns into nasal that’s when i’ll Be really scared... hopefully it won’t I hope to find a solution soon.
