Making new friends..

A girl from my school/work recently added me on Facebook and we've been chatting for the last few days. She asked me if I wanted to go to the park with her tomorrow, and while I would love to, I just don't feel comfortable going out with my breath being so horrible.

I'd be even more uncomfortable if they insisted I ride with them. Ick. The idea of being trapped inside a small car, huddled closely together, with no where to go is terrifying.

I'm not sure how to proceed with this situation..

Any ideas?

I do apologize if this isn't the correct sub forum, I'm not exactly sure where this should be posted.

Man it's the same with me.. girls would flirt with me and I would reject them cause of my bad breath but now got a gf and if she can't understand the situation she's free to go, not before I break her JUST KIDDING. So I say ***k it go for it if u continue like this you will be alone forever. Just think that you don't have bad breath I know when people point it out it's soo depressing but yea just chew sugar free gums you should try peroxide hydrogen 3% (gargle) it will make ur mouth feel fresh. Good luck buddy!

Thanks Rob. I told her I would go. She offered to pick me up, but I said I'd meet her there instead. Glad to hear you've got a gf and things are going well for you.

Update: I went. I drove to her house and she drove to the park. It was pretty bad, kept wiping her face/nose the whole way there. Even with the window cracked.

Talked for a little bit...

Her sister ended up calling her and said that she needed the girl to come pick her up because she had a fight with her mother.

Ugh. I feel gross.

I just hope she doesn't tell people about this.

I used to know someone with chronic bb before it became a problem for me (or at least I think so). Our mutual friends never talked bad about her behind her back. Never mentioned it once. I really believe its never talked about and people with "regular mouths" also have bb from time to time so they don't want to talk about it either. The fact that its so "taboo" makes it worse I think.

Also I think sometimes we let our anxieties get the best of us. It is possible that people rub their noses for completely unrelated reasons. I've never felt the need to rub my nose when speaking with someone whos breath is less than great. Also, its highly probable that she really did need to leave for an actual reason. But aside from that, IF she chose to leave because of your possible bb then honestly, f*** her. I have a few friends that stick around anyways, and if they're not willing to than why should you even want to be friends with them. It is so frustrating that my bb has become a part of my own identity, even though it has nothing to do with me or who I am. BB wasn't even a thing until mouthwash companies like Listerine decided they could make a profit off of shaming people who smelled anything other than neutral. If someone has to smell a bit of bacteria to be graced by your wonderful presence then so be it.

Thank you for this very wonderful and encouraging post! I agree with you, I don't think true friends will talk about another friend so freely behind their back, but I wasn't really close with this girl, or my other coworkers, so who knows what was said. I shouldn't even think about it, it will drive me up a wall if I do. I am also someone who doesn't rub my nose when I smell something bad, but this girl only did it after I said something, and I don't believe she was feeling under the weather at all. Luckily, this was months ago, and I no longer feel uncomfortable about it.
