Clean Mouth, Bad Breath: Is problem bacteria in belly?

Post by Help »

A. Bad breath may result from gum disease, but there are other causes. Many years ago we spoke with Nobel Prize laureate Barry Marshall, M.D. He discovered that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori could cause stomach ulcers. He told us that these germs are behind some cases of hard-to-treat bad breath.

Through the years we have heard from readers who reported success after curing the infection: "When I read about a blood test for a germ in the stomach that causes bad breath and gastritis, I saw my doctor. He hadn't heard of this, but he gave me the blood test. It turned up positive. Now I am fine, after years of bad breath."

I searched helicobacter pylori. - halitosis and found interesting topics...

H. pylori is believed to be transmitted orally. Many researchers think that H, pylori is transmitted orally by means of fecal matter through the ingestion of waste tainted food or water. In addition, it is possible that H. pylori could be transmitted from the stomach to the mouth through gastro-esophagal reflux (in which a small amount of the stomach's contents is involuntarily forced up the esophagus) or belching, common symptoms of gastritis. The bacterium could then be transmitted through oral contact

those of us who have been around for a while have tried and tested the helicobacter pylori route. it helped none of us.

However, convince your doctor to give you the test/treatment and see if it helps you. You might be one of the extremely small percentage of cases where the bad breath is actually the result of the pylori infection. but i doubt it.

therapy consists usually of a tripple treatment of antibiotics.
