BB Should I go to job interview-loss the will

Post by DRASTIC »

Hi All,

I have been suffering for 3 years with bad breath. Really awful can fill th room type of bad breath. I dont know what to do and I have a job interview on Monday. I don't know what to do. Job involves chatting 24/7 round the clock. I am depress have lost weight, not eating well because of stress, I cry everyday. I dont know what to do. People cough 30 seconds after meeting me and cover their nose as if I am contagious.

I do have occasional tonsil stones but I try to keep tonsils clean.

Been to ENT and got antihistamine and Nasonex. Nothing helps. Still have constant Postnasal drip. Postnasal drip taste foul when I feel it in my throat or swallow. I gargle, scrape, brush, floss everthing nothing helps.

I have tried everything or almost everything out there. Therabreath, Breathrx, Retardex etc nothing helps. People still cover noses and cough when I walk pass or in same room. How can I go to interview? I want to give up on life for I can't take this anymore. BTW. Dentist told me that I have the best dental hygiene out of all her patients then why do I smell. I can't take this life anymore. Just been laid off work and don't have any money because I can't get any job with my bad breath.

I have lost the will to live.

Hi D,

I'm so sorry your having such a rough time right now, please know that you are in good company and around others on this forum who experience the same as you on a daily basis. Many of us have had bb for decades and know just the type of situations you have described are horrific, and have a negative effect on all our lives.

I can't tell you what to do about the job interview or your personal financial situation, although there is a thread on alternative career choices which limit the amount of face to face contact we would have with people.

What I can tell you is that I've learnt a lot from this forum, more than all the doctors, dentists, clinics and so called specialists I've seen over the years, and in the last few weeks my bb has become more manageable. Probably by 20%. I still get some looks, some holding of the nose and still note which way the wind is blowing but, not as much. And beleive me 'not as much' is a huge improvement, anything is better.

The reason my condition has a slight improvement is due to the following regime:

Daily nasal irrigation using EMCUR - they give you a pack but after that ran out I went on to use bicarbonate of soda (2 teaspoons) and sea salt (1 teaspoon) in enough boiled, cooled to warm, water to fill the bottle - add 2 drops of tea tree oil.

With the irrigation some people use it to clear just the nostrils but I let it go down the back of my throat and spit out which washes everything away. It's a real pain and takes ages to start with but now I'm done with in a minute or two and the fresh clean feeling is definately worth it.

Next I clean my teeth/mouth with a regular toothpaste. When I say mouth were talking inside of cheeks, under tongue, surface of tongue, roof of mouth, soft palate at the back, pockets behind the back set of teeth - every little place food or bacteria can hide. Most impotantly, use a tongue scraper, probably a dozen times.

Repeat this with hydrogen peroxide. Most people use 3% but I have moved onto 6%. I can't stress how careful you must be with this stuff, it can burn (I've learnt that lesson). I dilute it 1 part to aprrox 2.5, but this may be way to strong for some - start with 3% dilute as the instructions on bottle and go on from there.

The most important part of my mouth to treat is far back on the tongue, almost down your throat, scrub your tongue with hp and let it sit for a minute or two then scrape it off. Then the soft palate at the back of the roof of your mouth, it holds a lot of slimey old saliva and bad taste.

After I swish a peroxide mix around my mouth, gargle and spit, leaving the residue.

In addition to this, I use Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) in tablet form as a digestive aid at 300g, 3 times a day.

Anti candida tablets x4 each night. Along with the irrigation this helps with PND.

Started a low-protein diet last week, which has had an amazing effect, but as we've all learnt - new things can make a difference for a few days and then no longer work. This approach is still work in progress - although I know it has worked well for others.

I take mini-bottles of bicarb & water, and mix of hp out with me everywhere - along with toothbrush and scraper. And brush and gargle when I need to freshen.

Long and laborious this post may be, it's a long and laborious process BUT it has made my bb the best its been in 25 years.

It will take a long time for you to work through all the stuff we've tried on here, and sadly I can't give you an answer for tomorrow - but unless you need to put yourself through the stress then maybe reconsider going. Hopefully after a few weeks of trial and error with forum suggestions you will feel you can attend an interview.

Hope this helps a little, good luck with everything - and with the interview if you decide to go. Let us know how you get on.

Job Interview

Post by Humble »

I am very sorry and empathize with your experiences. I would suggest that you go to the job interview. Perhaps there is some temporary remedy that you could use before you go to the interview? Therabreath is a total scam, but it worked for me for about 1 1/2 hours. It is not a remedy and doesn't work any longer than that. For whatever reason, I was able to secure a job. Perhaps you can step into a bathroom and try something, just before you step into the job interview. Try to be encouraged and don't give up. G-d Bless.

I know how you feel.I also suggest that you go to your interview.I know how difficult it is living with BB.I have a dentist appointment in the morning,I have cancelled twice, because of the reactions of the dentist and his staff, but I haven't found a dentist that didn't make remarks. My last visit, was so embarrasing, the dentist was wearing a mask, then he signaled for his assistant to bring him a shield and then he just stopped examing my teeth and said he was going to lunch, for me to see the receptionist to reschedule. So you can imagine how I felt.(I cried all week). But I know I have to go to the dentist,I have severe gum disease and can't keep prolonging it.I am dreading it.I haven't found anything that works for me as of now,but I am hopeful one day it will come.If I can just alleviate it a little so it will be manageable,I will be relieved.Hang in there,it will get better.Take Care

I was in a similar situation two weeks ago.
I have a terrible breath. But the people out there are not that bad ..
I attended the interview and it lasted for an hour.
I felt really good about it. (b'coz before going thr i thought that it would be over with in 10 mins).

This experience gave me confidence. (don't care abt ur breath for a while).

RE: Interview

Post by DRASTIC »

Hi All,

a big thank you for all your kind words of wisdom.

Thanatos, happylife, trenski, humble and Charley thank you so much for your words of wisdom.

You are right I have to face my fears and eventually go for interview.

Last week I was at an interview and let me tell you I wished the ground would open up and swallow me. I could smell myself whilst in the staff room waiting for interview. I had to teach a practise lesson and let me tell you my breath was so bad that one boy got out his tissue and covered his nose. I work as a teacher and get mocked alot by staff and students who think I am probably a scumbag who doesnt clean my teeth. Even though I clean my teeth obssessively in the morning, at work countless times and at night-gargle, floss, scrape like mad to the point where my tongue has a permanently pink clour even after eating anything.

To make matters worst I overheard staff talking behind my back in the staff room about my bad breath where I work presently.

As for the interview last week there were 3 people on the interview panel - two women and one man. The man literally covered his nose the entire time whilst I was talking. The two ladies were a bit better they did not face me but didnot cover their nose at all during the interview. I kept my courage and was strong. At the end of the interview when I was leaving the room someone said in a low tone 'what a shame'. Don't know how much longer I can be strong. I feel like my life has fallen to pieces.

To cut a long story short, I didnot go to the interview today because it involved the same process meeting students, teaching short lesson, and then interview by panel. I know I won't get a teaching job in the future so I have given up the stress of going. I notice that in times of great stress my bad breath gets worst of all.

Thanatos, happylife, trenski, humble and Charley can you suggest any possible new career prospect for people with bad breath. I don't have a car or license for the country where I live presently so driving is out. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,
D
