so ive heard many people talk about them and how they can see them when they open their mouths. People say that they are visible on the tonsils and they can pick them out.
When i open my mouth wide my tonsils are smooth and have no white/yellow build up so therefore i cant "see" the tonsil stones that way. I prod and poke and squeeze and still can never find anything. But every now and then, I cough or gag and one comes out.
Im just curious as to what level of severity everyone would class their tonsil stone build up. How often do they come out on their own? Can you see them just by opening your mouth and looking inside?
And again, i have friends who also get tonsil stones, but dont have bad breath.
Good question austuser. I for one get the stones on a regular basis. Sometimes I get just one or two maybe and other days I'll get 7 or more popping out one after the other. My stones have a really strong smell to them without being broken open like shit. I can usually smell them through my own nose when they are about to come out like jsut peeking through the hole. I don't know why I can smell them maybe because its so close to my sinus opening. I also have stinky tonsils they smell like a mix of morning breath times 10 and shit. I don't know why. I get itchy sore throats but never so servere that I need to see the doctor (I hate doctors) and pain in my ear shaft not sure if they are related. The stones range in size from half a rice grain to an oatmeal grain.
Can one of you with a cameraphone/digital camera take a snap of one - and post it on imageshack/imgspot - and leave a link here.
Might sound crazy to some but I would like to see exactly what people are talking about.
I dont have any tonsils anymore. I do have a coated tongue - and when my mouth is very dry and I sense that my bad breath is very bad, I find that 'white puss/goo' can be scraped off the back of the tongue...
Ok so i have a pic of a tonsil stone for you. Unfortunately I didn't have my digital cam so I had to use my web cam which doesn't have the best quality so its not very vivid but oh well i tried. I wish I could have gotten you a better pic but, its hard and about the size of an oatmeal grain. actually it looks like an oatmeal grain but smells nothing like one. I would never actually touch it to be honest. I hope this gives you an idea at least of what to look for.
I just made some pictures of my throat, because I coldn't see it in a mirror, so this was the only way. I think it looked ok, but I discovered one tonsil stone.
From time to time one comes out when I brush my tongue. Now when I made the picutres, I discovered only this one. I don't know if this is normal, but I would be happy without it.
I agree that many people get tonsil stones and don't have bad breath. I think it depends on the severity of the stones and if they smell when you break them open or not. I think when you don't have to break open your stones for them to smell really bad that it can cause bad breath while they are still in the cripts or just coming out. I also believe that JoJo you have cryptic tonsils. You seem to have alot of crypts and they can cause alot of problems. Next time a stone comes out try to get it and smell it. If you notice a pungent smell without them being broken then you should go to a good ent to get them taken care of. I got my tonsils removed on Jan 22nd and so far it has done alot for me. My mouth def tastes fresher and not only that but my nose seens to feel clearer. I don't know why but I'm not complaining. I am still on the antibiotics so I don't really know just how much the surgery has done for my breath but so far I am happy I got it done.
