H pylori test negative
H pylori test negative
1. I have had 3 endoscopies of sinus by two different doctors, and a CT scan, and there are no abnormalities or tumors.
2. I have also been to a periodontist and dentist numerous times without any signs of anything that would be causing the odor. (my mouth tastes fine)
3. I have also been to Gastro ENT, and checked for celiac disease (negative) and found nothing else, but that's all she was concentrating on. So it might be good to see another one and check for other things.
Anyways, I have taken the test for TMAU (results will take about a month), and I am going to see a Metabolic specialist at Vancouver General Hospital.
There are a few other tests that I would like to get done if it is not TMAU, (or even if it is TMAU, who knows).
They are for;
1. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth
2. Fructose malabsorption
3. Slow intestinal motility

You mentioned you had 3 endoscopies of your sinuses. Have they actually gone further down your esophagus with the endoscopy? Like all the way down into your stomach?

Mmmm, ok. You mentioned you don't have bad breath, but just a bad odor coming from your nose and throat when you talk.ElGrizzle wrote:They said they didn't see anything unusual, and they took a biopsy of my small intestine, which came back negative for celiac disease, there was also no other abnormalities mentioned on the biopsy sample.
Has anyone ever said anything directly to you. I mean, have they actually said, "You have bad breath."?
I tested positive to H pylori and have just recently finished the antibiotic treatment and have moved on to the antacids.
I also have room clearing stench from my nose and mouth and the antibiotics did nothing to help it. My BB is worse than ever and i also have bad reflux.
I was devastated as I finally tested positive for something which there was a 'cure' so I got my hopes up that it would cure my BB but it was not even close.
No, they say, "it smells in here", or "did you fart?", or "it smells like poo", or they roll down a window when I talk.KeepTrying09 wrote:Mmmm, ok. So its not coming from my mouth, rather the air I breath out.
I was devastated when I found out it wasn't H pylori. I was hoping that would be it, like you.deebas wrote:Hi Elgrizzle,

So it may be metabolic. Have these tests done...
TMAU
Methane breath test
Hydrogen breath test
methane and hydrogen breath tests will test for fructose malabsorption, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I am just not sure which one tests for which.
Deebas, I told u h.p. was not the reason for the bb...U have reflux related bb, just like me and my advice is to start working in that direction. Of course h.p has to be eradicated because it might lead to cancer if left untreated, but it does not cause bb.deebas wrote:Hi Elgrizzle,

http://jmm.sgmjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/57/12/1553 wrote:Researchers in Japan have found a link between Helicobacter pylori and bad breath (halitosis). Helicobacter pylori is known to cause stomach ulcers, and doctors have long suspected that some cases of bad breath (halitosis) are linked to stomach problems but, until now, scientific proof has been lacking. The study, reported in the Journal of Medical Microbiology (J Med Microbiol 57 (2008), 1553-1559), looked for the presence of H. pylori in the mouths of 326 subjects, 251 of whom suffered from oral malodor. The results indicted an association with not only halitosis, but also gum disease.
Does this mean stomach ulcer and halitosis go hand in hand? Not necessarily. Not all people who carry H. pylori have stomach ulcers, just as not all of them have oral malodor. The authors of the recent report suggest that gum disease may predispose people to having H. pylori in the mouth-that is, gum disease may create the ideal conditions for the bacterium to multiply in the mouth if it is introduced. Poor oral health, then, may be a stepping stone to Helicobacter pylori and bad breath.
Obviously, contact with this organism can increase the risk of both stomach ulcer and bad breath, since any organism that is found in the mouth is presumably also found in the stomach. Once assumed to be a harmless environmental bacterium, it is emerging as a significant cause of human health problems. It remains to be seen however, whether the evidence linking Helicobacter pylori and bad breath sparks additional research and increased efforts to find good antibiotic treatment.
For oral malodor sufferers, knowledge of a possible cause and effect relationship between Helicobacter pylori and bad breath may spark a desire to be tested for the organism. There is a blood test available for screening, though it's probably not known whether it will detect the organism in oral tissues. Ironically, a urea breath test has also been developed, the results of which may be questionable now that we know the bacterium can live in the mouth: this test may not differentiate between stomach ulcer and bad breath. The reported study used detection of specific DNA, an approach not likely to be available to the general public.

Might be a small percentage, but still a percentage none the less. All possibilities should be explored as causes of bb vary from person to person.iva wrote:This is as probable as bb being caused by liver disfunction or kidney failure.
Hey Deebas. That's cool you have an appointment with an ENT. You should prepare a strategy for speaking with him/her. Not everyone has complete bad luck. Thf had a bit of luck with his ENT, at least with getting some kind of result. He sent me this PM and said I could share it.deebas wrote:I finally have an appointment with an ENT this week so hopefully something will come of that..
Although it seems that most of the people on the board have had dissapointing results from their ENT visits.
I would just tell your ENT that you have a malodor coming from your nose, and want to check your nose and throat to make sure there are no infections, then see if they can take a culture and test it for any infection, candida being just one of the things they test for. Be sincere and tell them you just want to check all possibilities.thf wrote:Hi,
Today i found out for sure that i have candida, I've always known i had it but a culture confirmed it today. I read your post about your systoms and they are the same as mine have been over the last 6-7 years, the nasal/breath odor that you can't smell. Question, did you have the nasal odor all the time or did it come and go??
My ent is downplaying the candida issue he said "everyone has it", he put me on only 50mg of difulcan for 10 days, I believe i need a higher dose. I've started doing the candida diet earlier this year, it didn't help my bb/nb but I lost 10 pounds (lol). I gave up wheat, gluten, all dairy, still struggle with chocolate at times, but for the more part i only eat salads, sometimes meat mostly chicken or turkey.
I'm assuming your doctor was a gastro dr, who diagnoised you... please let me know, if so I'll go and see my gasto dr. and let him treat me, I remember seeing info on celiac diesae when i was in his office, so maybe he more informed about candida.
Thank you for your post it was very useful.
I hope you have good luck. Keep us updated on what you find out.
Left me feeling depressed. He gave me a basic check of nasal passages and throat and then said that he sees quite a few patients with halitosis problems and due to the type of persistent bacteria they have in their mouth and throat, they will never be able to cure their problem. He then had the nerve to suggest that he couldn't smell my BB even though he kept grunting to clear his nose.
About the only thing i got out of it was he said he's put me on waiting list to get tonsils out though he suggested it prob wouldn't make a difference.
