dear aydinmur, thanks for answering.

i use zinc-containing toothpaste too, but my impression is that it doesnt work half as good... the toothpaste i use with zinc contains:

Aqua, Hydrated Silica, Sorbitol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cellulose Gum, Alumina, Aroma, Sodium Fluoride, Zinc Chloride, Sodium Saccharin, Limonene, C177891.

is zinc chloride maybe not the best ingredient?

I have seen some toothpastes with zinc but they also have most of the ingredients you state above. What I would like to know is if things like lauryl sulphate and flouride are good. I have read conflicting reports about the usefulness of the latter. Please let me have your views.
Thanks

More soluble is better. Zinc chloride is one of the best. Lactat, citrat, gluconat, acetat is also good. But some zinc compounds less soluble in water are not preferable, like zn-sulfate or oxide.

Ingredients SLS or NaOH may inhibit zinc's effect. Saccharin is also not good for halitosis. Remember, toothpastes are usually for caries-prevention but not halitosis.

If zinc containing products dont affect on your halitosis, perhaps, you dont have type 1 halitosis.

I saw a toothpaste that has zinc chloride butb it also has SLS and saccharin. Does the last two ingredients inhibit zinc's effects? Please confirm.

Sls, saccharin, NaOH, Alcohol and any others may produce volatil and aromatic compounds when they enter a mouth. These compounds cover zinc's effect but usually they dont completely remove it.

Independently from its sls or saccharin content, If any zinc containing product does never decrease halitosis, then perhaps it may not be type 1.

I stopped chewing gum a while ago and it really makes a big difference.
i used to chew xylitol gum but even that gives me bad taste and dry mouth. Everytime when i used to chew gum i got a bad taste, but i would always ignore it because i thought it was better then having nothing in your my, but after spitting it out my mouth would go more nutral and saliva would come back. Now i don't chew gum anymore and i stopped smoking 2 months ago. Not smoking doesn't do anything for my bb and tongue coating, but not chewing gum makes a big difference.

Well, look on the bright side. By not smoking you are giving yourself additional years of good health. :D

Thanks. I have not tried any zinc containing toothpaste yet. I just wanted to freshen my breath more. I do not have bad breath according to meter readings I have taken on the one I bought for my use.

I think i feel the same but no way could i give up chewing gum. If i gave up gum i think i'd have to give up speaking....or breathing.
