Confused

Post by neverstop »

I've been suffering from chronic bad breath for the past 15 years...From my observation (nose rubbing, coughing, stepping back you know, all those things that you may have experienced), I think I have room filling odor.

Last week I came home and told my family (for the 1st time) about my halitosis. Of course, they did not smell anything and I know they never lie to me. My sister even brought me to a shopping mall one day and asked me to speak to cashiers and sales people. No reaction ! So they concluded I must be slightly mentally ill. Next day I went to another mall alone, there were reactions, again!

I went for an upper endoscopy last month and was diagnosed with hiatal hernia, lactose intolerance & mild GERD. Negative H.Pylori. I am now currently on Nexium, Motilium and Probiotics. Today I went to see a breath specialist in town, he tested my breath with Halimeter. The peak was only 60. He also said he did not smell anything. He mentioned that due to hiatal hernia and lactose intolerance, I should cut down on meat. He recommended Therabreath so I bought the oxygen mouthwash and toothpaste. However I dont feel very comfortable because of many bad reviews of Therabreath products on this forum.

One thing I figure (try to believe) that I do not have BB 24/7 (I used to think so). This is already a good news to me. What do you guys think?

Hi Neverstop,

I share your frustration.

I, myself, have suffered from bad breath for nearly 10 years.

Curiously, my family always said that I didn't have bad breath, but I'd always get reactions from others.

The truth is I know when I have bad breath.

Some people would say they don't smell anything from me (to be polite in my opinion)

I wasn't mentally ill. (Well, I was very depressed because of the demon of bad breath)

What I figured is that the diet is the cause of bad breath (contrary to what many other people (including doctors and dentitions) would say).

I'm a medical student myself in my 5th year.

I've been completely bad breath-free for the last 3 years.

I've written a short article on how I cured myself of bad breath in my blog here.

Thanks for your reply mjump7. I have just read your blog..

I have changed my eating habit for the past 3 weeks: small meals, 5 days/day, more green. All my friends can tell that I am going thru a big change as I used to eat a lot of meat (esp pork belly). However I think I will follow your diet for now - at least I can have chicken and lean pork.

How long did it take you to see the effect? Cos even when I only eat salads+fruit, there are still reactions even though I do think my bb gets better.

Hi neverstop,

Please don't blindly follow my diet because food that cause you bb might be different from ones that cause me bb.

But I think it's not a bad idea to try my diet for yourself to see if that works.

Since you have lactose intolerance, I would cut down dairy completely. I'm 100% dairy-free now.

Dairy food includes milk, butter, yoghurt, cakes, buns, and everything that has milk in it.

I'm 100% wheat-free as well.

My staple is rice (+brown rice) + lean pork, chicken, salmon + potatoes + bananas + other fruit and veges.

You could try one week of my diet to see if your bb improves. And then you could introduce other food into your diet to see if you're ok with them.

Notice, also, what oil you use, Canola oil and soybean oil trigger eczema and consequently bb as well.

If you've suffered from bb for the past 15 years. It wouldn't be unwise to strictly follow my diet for at least 1 week to see if there's any improvement.

By the way, I had 3 small chopped pieces of scotch fillet beef this morning. Guess what, I had a tinge of dry mouth + bb in the afternoon. They were really small 3 pieces. This convinces me more than ever that I should not have any beef at all to keep my breath fresh.

Also, for lean pork, it shouldn't have any fat in it. It should be really lean. It's really easy for my breath to stink if I consume a fair bit of pork fat.

But otherwise I'm 100% bb-free.
Like I said as long as I keep my diet, I'm 100% bb-free, which is really fantastic after many years of bb-stricken life.
