although it`s main goal is to detect cancer, I`m still hoping that this technology would help us too.

Yeah, if they`re aware that they have a potential goldmine with bad breath then they might refocus this research to our favor.

I'm not sure they would refocus... they would probably not see us as life or death situation. But at least, it would let them know that there are others that could make use of their technology. Could be helpful if they knew this while they develop it.
