Has nasal irrigation helped anyone??

Post by chavez »

Hi All

I'm pretty sure the root of my BB is bacteria breeding and feeding on excess mocus, and I'm sure this is maybe the case for alot of people suffering from halitosis, but has anyone tried sinus cleanse, because I have it at home and noticed a slight difference, but I'm not sure if i am using it correctly.

Does anyone who suffer from pnd found a sucessful cure using nasal irigation systems or the so called electric pulse ones? if so please confirm do u tip ur head right back or bow ur head down, and aim back of your head?

many thanks

I have had a lot of positive effects from nasal irrigation. I got a $4 kit that works as good as $25/mo. allergy medicine. I just use luke-warm water and a small amount of salt. Ususally tilt my head forward and to the side so as to have the water flow out my other nostril as well as the back of my throat. Seems to greatly reduce pnd for me and lets me breathe easier. And I think it's helping to reduce my BB as well.

Chavez, nasal irrigation has definetely cleared my nose from excess mucus and has helped cleaning my sinuses, but mucus production will continue no matter what. Don't go buy that $100 Hydropulse bullsh**, it's just the same as a regular $20 netti pot you can get @ Walgreens.

I suggest you go to an ENT, and get your sinuses scanned, because irrigating your nasal passages won't help much if you have an established infection, like I believe I do. Just do normal Irrigation and you'll feel a lot better. Get yourself checked out by an ENT, and hopefully he/she will find the cause of this. I'm heading over in a bit and am very optimistic.

And you were correct about the bacteria + mucus = BB .
GL with irrigation, but i doubt it'll eliminate all mucus production, or the bacteria hiding within your sinuses. :)

Nasal irrigation never helped, no, though at the time I falsely believed it made a slight difference. Even nasal irrigation with solution containing dissolved antibiotic didn't help.

In my view nasal irrigation should only help the odor if the cause of your bad breath is truly nasal in origin (that is, from sinusitis etc.). But like the others I can attest that it powerfully clears nasal mucus.

For about the last year before I had my wisdom teeth out I would irrigate my sinuses at least once a day when off, and at least two to three times when I was at work.

Saline irrigation can fool you into believing it has an effect when it doesn't truly because, along with washing out your sinuses it will also wash clean the odor receptors in the nose. Because of this you may not detect your breath odor for a while, and so it can make you believe it is providing relief.

But for however much relief it gave me from being able to detect my own breath odor (about 2 hours tops), it didn't seem to ever affect others' reactions to my breath too much. Since I got temporary relief, though, I really tried hard to believe others did too, but in retrospect I don't believe they ever really did. So much of this was psychological too: I wanted to believe that people were less offended so badly that I couldn't see that any procedure (irrigation) I had to perform every three hours just to able to get a few less reactions to my breath wasn't working.

Also, if you do it too often it can backfire. The water in the saline will wet your nose and rear tongue, but when it dries the salt will make your throat dry and dry the rear tongue, giving you worse breath than you had previously and aggravating the problem. I've done this to myself a few times.

You can try it and see what it does for you, if anything. But don't be deluded that it has improved things just because it made your bad breath temporarily undetectable to you. Judge by other people's reactions.

i suspect that this condition (halitosis) is a syptom of something else and is our bodies way of telling us we need to to address it wheter it be a form of diabeties acidity in the stomach sinus infection or a fungal sinus infection or a problem with the bacteria in the colon enlarged tonsils i belive there has to be a cause ive developed this condition, in the last 6-9 months i'm going to this issues with the doctor on wednesay and if i don't get a constructive response my next move is to see a ent specialist and if still no solution ill be off too the periodontist.

I am pretty sure adenoids might be the problem for some. When I had my tonsils taken out almost 2 years back I asked the ENT if he took the adenoids out as well but he told me that adults have no adenoids. I am kind of skeptical about this. Maybe some of us might be freaks whose adenoids don't completely go away and they stay to make us smell. Has anyone here had their adenoids taken out?
