Tonsils need to go!

Post by firecracker »

About 2 years ago..I finally got to picking around my tonsils and finding white gunk behind my tonsil. I have discovered I have a cryptic tonsil on my left side, I can stick a dental instrument or a crochet tool into it. I have 2 crypts like that right in the same area. When I do that, the stick smells so disgusting..just like my bad breath. I can taste the bad breath coming from the back of my throat.

About six months ago, I grabbed a q-tip and gently pushed on the side of the crypt and a big yellowish glob oozed out! I was shocked. I kept doing it and got another 3 big globs. I do believe doing this helps to lessen the sharp tonsil stone smell. Anyways I do this at least every other day, and gunk routinely comes out! I do think food gets stuck in there.
So yes...if you have a crypt try taking a Q-tip and pushing gently on the side to try and push gunk out!

My tonsil is so nasty, its like two good sized pockets I can put a tool in almost half an inch deep. Then in there I can see other small holes like a honeycomb, and the saliva that comes out just stinks. Who knows how deep these holes go down. And I imagine that maybe it's a bacteria generator deep within and oozes out.

Before that, I wasn't sure if removing tonsils was such a good idea. But now that I see what gunky blobs come out all the time, I know for sure I want to get a tonsiloctomy. No matter what, those tonsil crypts always stink badly. It's just surprising how it seems so unheard of in the mainstream media..such as bad breath articles.. that tonsils could be a source of bad breath. Dentists always talk about it being your tongue, or your teeth, but never any mention of tonsils even though that is part of the mouth! I had to learn about this condition from reading health boards and coming from REAL people like you and I who suffer with bb. Yes I know it doesn't cure everybody but luckily it seems to be a cure for some so that is great. It's good that this info is getting out to people, good luck to us all.

I have the same problem: tonsil crypts with stones. Both of my tonsils usually smell bad. The other day I tried using a water pik on the tonsils. A large number of tiny stones came out. But the water pressure was too high and they started bleeding. And it causes a gag reflex which makes it impractical.

I've switched to using a dental irrigation syringe ( like this one ) which is a syringe with a curved tip. It is more gentle, but it can push out some of the stones. Until I can find a doctor who does the laser cryptolisis, this seems like the best way to control the problem.

Yes thank you for letting me know the syringe is effective...I will get one!

I too used a waterpik on them at first and it did get a few stones out. But I found the water pressure to be too much for them...I'd feel a sharp pain if i stuck it in a hole. And I'd worry that I might be making the hole bigger and causing more problems then its worth. And the gagging.

Definitely get them done.

Its the best thing I have done and reduced my BB significantly. It never cured it because I later found I had an impacted wisdom tooth which is similar to the tonsil in that the flappy gum would house lots of smelly bacteria which produced white slimey stuff that stank.

Thanks bbuk for letting me know you have improved from it significantly....it encourages me to feel I am on the right track here towards improvement.

If there is anyone else who has had success from a tonsiloctomy or laser... I would certainly love to hear it.

I would always say to leave tonsillectomy as the last resort. Tonsils smell because the situation and smell of the rest of your mouth and throat causes them to smell, not vice-versa.
The only exception to this might be if your tonsils themselves are infected in some way.
I can imagine smelly tonsils adding to the overall problem, but not by much.

As far as I know, only one person on here has been cured from tonsillectomy. That is hardly conclusive.
Certainly dont waste your resources on cryptolysis.

Copy and paste from other 3ed:

You have candida, and for this reason most people who have a tonsilectomy still experience BB after: they only remove bacteries action in the tonsils, but bacteries will continue "WORKING" IN THE HEAD OF ESOFAGUOS and in the whole body.

Image This pic is from Keep tring endoscopy.

Candida is the problem, not tonsilstones (they are only the effects of candida action). Read the post of viewtopic.php?t=2534&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

There are a lot of stories with candida, on this board

and on interent

Good read and I'm sure we will win our battle

May God bless us all.

Hi...yes I have considered that if my tonsilectomy doesnt irradicate the bb completely..then my other considerations were going to be candida or the wisdom teeth.

It is very possible I caused a candida problem..because as a teenager I was pretty normal. Then when I hit 18 I started beer binge drinking every friday and saturday...and binging on junk food too, eating alot more meat. I started taking birth control, but maybe for the duration of about a year off and on. I don't take it now because I know it has some effect on candida.
It was official I had this chronic bb at age 20.

I still think my tonsil is contributing to the smell because...on my left side is a crypt where I can stick a dental tool in a good half an inch! And 4 good sized blobs came out and smelled very intense. Then closeby to the crypt is another pocket slightly smaller but i can stick something in it too..and I have seen a good sized blob pop out of it too. I just think these pockets of flesh are breeding grounds, and homes for the bacteria to flourish.

Also on my left side..the saliva taken from the crypts smells ten times more worse then my right tonsil..

Also I am thinking perhaps food gets stuck in these crypts! Do you think its possible food gets stuck in there?
I dont like the idea of having big flesh pockets for bacteria and possibly food to sit in, and form into real pieces of blobby mass that I can eventually squeeze out of there that smells horrendous.

Did you yourself find you have candida? Have you been able to cure yourself? thanks

I disagree. In my case the bb is coming from the tonsils, not the other way around. Whenever my breath smells bad, I end up finding a lot of tonsil stones. My tongue is not coated. I can scrape my tongue and smell nothing. But the tonsils smell horrible, just like the bb. It's common sense really. If you stick a cotton swab into the tonsils and it comes out smelling bad, guess what's causing your bb? I'm not saying tonsil cryptolisis will fix everyone's bb, but they did a study on people with tonsil stones and it did help the majority.

So far the syringe irrigation seems to be helping keep my tonsils from smelling. I'm also doing some oil pulling with VCO, but the tonsil irrigation is the only thing so far that has gotten the tonsil smell under control.

Of course, not eveyone's bb is caused by tonsil stones. If we learn anything from this site, it's that one cause/cure does not fit all.

I agree hope4now, my confidence has improved slightly more since discovering how to pop out the stones with a q tip. Before that..I remembered the night I met my last boyfriend..and I could just smell the tonsil stone odor all around me as I talked..it was horrible. I really do think after I learned to pop them out that it has lessened the odor a bit. But another reason I want to get them taken out...is I think about what if there are other stones down there I am not able to get out. I guess I should try that irrigator syringe. Another reason i want to get them taken out...is because I dont want to have to be dealing with this daily for the rest of my life.. to be constantly trying to keep them clean of gunk. It would be nice to just have smooth skin there.

I can understand the theory that there is another cause for the bacteria and that the bacteria just so happens to be in the tonsil as well. But after seeing that I have big crypts where I can stick tools into them...versus my other tonsil that i cant stick anything into and doesnt smell anywhere as horrendous as the other tonsil.
It doesnt seem to hurt to get a tonsilectomy..to see the outcome if it gets rid of the bad breath. And if it doesnt ..then I know to try and see if i have candida or if its wisdom teeth.

Is there something bad about getting your tonsils taken out from a health stand point? I mean can you recall anyone who has had them taken out saying they are having bad conditions and they regret it? And by regret..I dont mean by wasting time, pain, and money. I mean they have regret because it has had some long term effect on their health?

That was my main reason before about being unsure whether to do it. The worst I read was someone in this forum a long time ago saying that if he eats something cold , or if he is sick his gums swell up.

Hope4now, when I discovered my tonsils stunk and that they were the source of these mysterious stones I'd been coughing up for years, I was ABSOLUTELY convinced they were the cause of my BB. But even so it still took me years to convince myself it was worth trying to have them removed. This was all before the internet. As soon as I made my mind up I wanted them out ASAP and could have waited 3 months and had them out for free on the NHS but yet I paid for this out of my own pocket and im still to this day in debt from that. I was completely unaware of any odour coming from my wisdom tooth at the time. As far as I was concerned my tonsils were the source of my odours, and my tongue smelled as a consequence of this.

Anyway, as you say, everyone is different. The fact that you say your tongue doesnt smell is a promising sign. Maybe the perception of your own bad breath isnt as bad as you think it is. Yes tonsils STINK if u touch them or if you crush a tonsil stone. But does this correlate to having BB? I generally dont think so. Try holding your nostrils when you eat something and you'll find that your sense of taste is GONE (except for sweetness and bitterness). The reason is that the nose is responsible for most of our taste perception. The same thing is going on when the tongue or the tonsils stink. You can literally taste the shitty gasses. And because the tonsils are in the throat, their pungent odour will be very apparent to you when you breathe out, especially when they are packed with stones.

There are so many factors going on. Every type of odour has its own characteristics. Some types will travel futher than others, some will linger longer than others, some are more pungent, etc etc. This is why its impossible for a person to determine for themselves whether they have BB, and likewise this is why people can have BB and remain oblivious to it.

I dont regret having my tonsils out. I wish I could go back and have my wisdom tooth out first to see whether there was ever any need for my tonsillectomy. But if you dont try anything then you'll never make any progress. I tend to find that I get chest infections whenever I have simple colds, which was never the case while I still had my tonsils. Also, in my case I had the most miserable time from pain with my tonsillectomy. I'm probably just a wimp though.

If you or anyone else has determined that that your tonsils are the likely cause of you bad tastes/odours then I would advise to go for full tonsillectomy. Dont bother with cryptolysis because only with full tonsillectomy can you absolutely rule out your palatine tonsils as a cause of BB.

@firecracker, rememeber that every general anaesthetic carries a 1% probability of mortality. Based on my own experience, I would advise anyone who suspects they may have wisdom teeth which might be causing their BB, to have those dealt with before taking the FAR more drastic measure of tonsillectomy, particularly if they'll be a straightforward extraction. Same goes for any anti-candida measures.

Incidentally, my tonsils looked identical (crypt-wise). But it was my right side which smelled the worst. The wisdom tooth causing my BB was on my right side too. May just be a coincidence. But knowing now that my wisdom tooth was the cause of my BB, I'm quite certain this was no coincidence.

Tonsils don't stink per se. Batteries do this work. Are you sure you haven't candida? Do you have some dental amalgam (mercury)?

You can't know if candida is doing the same work in the head of your esophagus, if yes your tonsillectomy wil be useless.

shmooze, first of all, those are not my words you've quoted me as saying :-s

The smell that builds up inside tonsils is undoubtedly due to some bacterial activity going on inside the crypts, BUT, generally I think the odour that builds up inside the crypts does so because of odour produced elsewhere. Most people with BB and smelly tonsils have smelly tongues too. And the smelly part of the tongue rubs past the tonsil almost constantly. I think that its this dead skin slough which then finds its way into the crypts which then begins to calcify, turning into tonsil stones.

Of course there is always the possibility that the BB problem lies squarely with the tonsils. Its just that tonsillecomy rarely turns out to cure anyone with chronic BB. And who's to say that those who are cured even had BB in the first place?

I dont think I've got candida. I cured my BB over a year ago with a wisdom tooth extraction.
I have several amalgam fillings and they dont cause me any problems. I've even swallowed a filling when one fell out during my teens.

An endoscopy will determine whether candida is in your espophagus. Antifungal medication will rule out candida from the rest of your body.

I repost my reply to another 3ed

you can't cure candida without remove dental amalgam. Candida is simply body reply to mercury poison.

as all of us, are at the research of the light after years of tribulation. You give me the opportunity to clear some aspect of canida many of us are unaware.

As you said few person are cured from candida. This could be true, because candida has his is origins. One of the most important is Dental Amalgam. Mercury in the amalgam seems to generate candida, not only, lately some specialist stated that without rimoving amalgam it's impossible to cure sistematic candida.

The Connection between Mercury Fillings and Candida
A book called "The Yeast Connection" written by Dr. J. Trowbridge, reports that some doctors who specialize in treating candida have found that at least 98% of their chronic candida patients also had much higher than average levels of mercury in their systems.
from
http://hubpages.com/hub/Mercury-Fillings-and-Candida

We already know that Candida Albicans, a yeast-like organism in the human body, is there to help control harmful bacteria. Another one of its jobs, however, is to fight mercury and other heavy metal toxins in the body. When there is an abundance of mercury in your system, Candida Albicans grows frantically, attempting to eliminate the mercury., it's the reply of our body to heavy metal that poison our body. This results in candida overgrowth which in turn creates numerous additional health issues.

from http://www.articlesbase.com/alternative ... 81422.html

So what's the solution?
Replace your metal amalgams by seeing a qualified holistic dentist. Follow a cleansing protocol made to eliminate both metals and Candida from the body. The key is to remove the source of the heavy metals first however. Heavy Metals and Candida go hand in hand and until you address the heavy metal issue in your body you cannot expect to see results with eliminating Candida.

That must be why everyone with amalgam fillings has candida and bad breath.

While on the subject of nonsense claims, I read this on the BBC website this morning:-
