symptoms:

slightly coated tongue
fecal/sour/bitter/metallic taste and breath
sometimes odorous exhalation from nose
poor digestion - occasional heartburn, constipation
distended abdomen
thick saliva and/or dry mouth
don't retain liquid - pee right after i drink anything
extreme fatigue - drugged up feeling
eczema (more recent)
a feeling of not being well in general physically when bb/dry mouth/fatigue is present
chronic sinus infection

treatments tried:
oh my god, do i have all day to do this?!

here's a very partial list -

pretty much all of the special halitosis products out there
chinese and/or ayurveda herbs
vitamins, minerals, supplements
(altho' i have to say that i haven't been very consistent with most things that i've taken because i usually give up without seeing results in a few days. and i buy too many of them and too often to stick to everything all the time.)
probiotics - as i've mentioned numerous times, they helped initially and then stopped and even made my breath worse than before - namely salivarius.
hydrogen peroxide - made my breath worse
oral irrigator
very careful oral hygiene
so far, a diet change has made the most difference - cutting out meat mostly and eating healthy
raw food seems to help but can't stand eating that too much

i forgot -

one thing that's been helping somewhat is grapefruit seed extract. i know some people say it doesn't work. but i've been putting 3 drops into a little water and gargle with it. it's helped my dry mouth problem tremendously. i think it makes my breath a little "weird" but maybe not as bad as usual.

Hi Guys:
If you guys don`t mind I`d like to ask you if you were vaccinated during your childhood coz I wasn`t. I know another person with chronic bb & she was never vaccinated too. Every freshbreath smelling person that I know had been given their shots so I was wondering if this is connected to bb. Thanks & I`d be waiting for your response.

jc this sounds interesting. I haven't been completely vaccinated as a kid too. Most of it was done in my early teens (I think I was 14) and thats when I already had bb.

This is interesting. I wasn't completely vaccinated - I remember getting shots in school but like once or maybe twice.

Has anybody had any luck with anything like flonase? Thanks!

Thanks guys for your response. I`m hoping that someone with the knowhow will do a more extensive research using every vital information that came from sufferers like us. Ever since I had this(bb), it`s been widely known that a bacteria called s. mutans had been producing volatile sulfur compounds which in turn causes bb. My point is that there may be another species other than the s. mutans that`s causing this. I know that some may level this as a wastebasket theory but I`m pretty desperate & I want to turn every stone left unturned before I lose my spirit. I`m pleading to medical practitioners to look deeper into it & try to find another species of bacteria other than the one we already know. It will be easier to cure once we know who the true enemy is.

Male, 32 years old, Aware of BB for the last 9 years. Have discussed it with close friends 3 or 4 years ago and confirmed that it is a serious issue but not with anyone recently but do get occasional hints.
Symptoms : BB (!!!) , constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, eczema, occasional feeling of feverishness (feels like stomach flu), thick saliva, history of acne, (under control now), allergies, irregular sleep patterns, mouth ulcers /canker sores( stopped after switched from regular toothpaste to biotene or toms natural toothpaste).

Doctors : 3 dentists ( failed to find any problems except the odd cavity which was fixed and they all said that my mouth looks fine), 2 Gastroenterologists (tested Helicobacter - negative)., 1 Rheumatologist (tested for sjogrens, came back negative but gave me the evoxac anyway saying the test is often negative for sjogren cases). 1 ENT (gave me flonase and some prescription antihistamines), 1 GP - tested for Candida (mouth) gave me nyastatin.

One blood test came back suggesting I had gout - undigested proteins in my system. I also regularly test for low iron - anemia.

Stuff I have tried (not successful eventually, some worked for a week or two- why is that ?) Most products were tried for at least 2 months (giving it a reasonable chance to work).

1) Therabreath products, blis products, profresh, some other chlorine one, biotene products.

2) Acitivia yogurt and Danactive Yogurt and Kefir from Whole foods (homemade is supposed to be the real thing and I haven't tried that).

3)Nyastatin

4) Flonase and other anti-allergy meds

5) Dairy free diet

6) Vegetarian dairy free diet with no caffeine or alcohol

7) nasal wash with a neti pot and then just with the palm of my hand

8 Natren probiotics

9) Prescription and then OTC prilosec (there are a million reasons not to take this).

10) Evoxac - helped generate more saliva did not help BB.

11) powerful humidifer in my bedroom.

12) Gargling with epsom salt

13) apple cider vinegar

14 )strong stuff that seemd to help but burned my mouth - maybe i need to fiddle with dosage - chlorohexidrine, grapefruit extract.

Stuff that is kind of effective or I am trying now

1) Stonyfield farm yogurt (the inulin helps elimination but may be unhealthy in the long run - google it). overall it helps the stomach - does very little for BB

2) probiotics. great at first but effect is wearing off but I am sticking with it.

3) Mastic gum (capsules) - not a cure but does help a bit

4) No coffee or red meat (makes a big difference)

5) Bananas (ripe ones help digestion)

6) Walgreens version of germx + toms natural peppermint toothpaste

7) lemon juice in hot water ( definitely helps a bit).

8 Sun Chlorella ( just started this seriously a couple of days ago). No impact on breath so far.

9) Exercise - running, weights, whatever - helps for at least 4 or 5 hours after.

10) metamucil capsules/powder - helps constipation quite a bit. I am going to switch to benefiber for a while to see if it is better.

Stuff I want to do diligently - meditation - deep breathingfrom my stomach for 20 min every day.

I feel my breath is a bit better (my constipation/diarhea ia definitely better) with the things I am doing now. My breath feels like morning breath - kind of like it felt when I was first noticed that it was a problem. The strange terrible odors are diminished to an extent.
I was vaccinated as a baby.
I'm sure I forgot some things - but anyway feel free to ask questions.

findthecure, it seems we both have similar symptoms and/or approach to our problem.

i don't know how bad your constipation is, but mine is pretty bad. taking ground flax seed is helping me and also drinking fresh fruit juice.

i don't drink nearly enough water, but will keep trying. do you?

i definitely find meditation/visualization has helped with relaxation and physical aches and pains a lot. i'd like to do a lot more of that too.

when i don't have fecal or metallic breath, sometimes i have this morning breath-like smell too. but compared to the rest of the odors, i'd much rather have this one. you didn't mention dry mouth but only think saliva. do you have that problem? my lips crack also. i think from the driness and thickness of my saliva.

i find irregular sleep pattern to be very bad for bb, but that's something that i have a hard time with. i see that you have eczema as well. it is a new problem for me, but it does seem like - as someone else pointed out - that a lot of us have both of these problems. i wonder what the conenction is?

how is the netti pot working? do you think it really helps bb? and what did you mean by just using the palm of your hand?i have one but still have yet to use it. am a bit freaked out about putting water up my nose.

grapefruit seed extract is helping me a lot - gargling with it. iam a bit afraid to drink it. it helps with the dry mouth and sometimes the odors as well.

Hi waitingforrelief (may i call you wfr)

no i don't have chronic constipation now. staying away from coffee and red meat helps a lot. also fried foods in general and cheese (pizzas etc.) please try it. i do drink a lot of plain water. around 2 liters a day (including the stuff that i have with lemon juice.) I used to put some salt in warm water and put some in my plam and "drink it through one nostril and let it come of my mouth and then do the same with the other nostril. not sure how effective it is. it seems effective for a few min because of the salt.

during last 5 or so winters i have had seriously chapped lips. this winter not at all. i don't even need balm. i must be doing something right. i think it is the lemon juice. but my bb is still there.

my questions
1) what brand of grapefruit extract are you using ? Is it very effective - you feel a dramatic difference in your breath ? how long have you been doing this. somethings work for a week and then the effects wane. write a bit more about your experience with the grapefruit extract and tdon't forget the brand name.

2) threelac?

3) have you researched celiac's desease ?

take care .
