Post by realbad »

This post is to find out the number of people that had a tonsillectomy.
Out of the number of people who had improvements in their breath and who didn't. i know i seen a dozen of post of people saying they had the surgery some was a sucess some wasnt. And also the people that had tonsilectomies and never updated their post operation results lets assume that theyre part of the sucess rate. I want numbers...NUMBERS DONT LIE.....I am scheduled for a tonsillectomy in 2 weeks so i want to know some statistics.

I had tonsillectomy 8 months ago and it improved my BB about 70%. When ever I brush my teeth back then I couldnt never be free from BB. After the tonsillectomy, I am BB free after brushing but the BB comes back after a few hours.

The worst thing for me before the tonsillectomy was when I yawned. The motion of yawning must have opened my tonsil crypts up where tonsil stones were residing consequently releasing the worse fecal smell ever. Even if my breath was free from BB due to recent brushing, a yawn would immediately change that.

Now yawning has no effect on my breath.

I would definitely recommend tonsillectomy if you have tonsil stones although it will not likely cure if there is a different underlying cause.

I considered tonsil sectomy as well. But if you have tonsil stones, the cause is probably underlying. Check "tonsil stones post nasal drip" in a search engine. You will find plenty of resources.
What I want to say: Check your sinuses with a CT for swolen tissue and with swabs for bacteria. The mucus from the sinuses drops into your throat and resides in your tonsil crypts. I would at least make a swab from your crypts and from your sinuses or nasal tissue. You could achieve this with results before your scheduled surgery.
If it turnes out that you have the same overgrowth of bacteria etc. in your tonsil crypts and sinuses, then your problem is not the tonsils, although a sectomy could potentially cure BB IMO. After sectomy there is a chance of getting a progression or shift to the lower respiratory organs due to the PND pouring more downwards resulting e.g. in bronchitis. The PND isn't caught by the tonsils any longer, so it passes the throat. I've also heared that PND and reflux is a continous lifecycle, one causing the other.
Anyhow please report if you made progress with the sectomy.

I've been doing neti pot for about a week. I use a store-bought packet of salt/xylitol. Then I add a few drops of Lugol's iodine. I even allowed some to drain through the throat which I spit out.

I thought it was helping, but then I used a syringe on my tonsils and found a lot of stones. So now I'm back to considering a tonsilectomy. I'm tired of cleaning out the tonsils and still not stopping the taste/smell. I don't really have any symptoms of PND or sinus infection. My sinuses are clear and not congested.

Even if the tonsils are a symptom of something else, getting rid of them would have to cut down on the smell which is obviously from the stones.

I'm beginning to suspect that people like us have gotten infected with a particular type of bacteria that causes all these symptoms otherwise everybody with tonsils would have bb like me. Mine started in 2006 so I haven't had this problem for most of my life.

the ENT commented that my tonsils were a bit larger than average. I couldn't say it was swollen though. Nore sore throat but have PND .

Yeah i had stones and i could take them out using toothpick, etc before. But couldn't take them all out and i could feel them.

I had my tonsils removed 15 years ago...

Post by W8ing2Exhale »

I have been suffering with severe BB for 16 years, I was promosing musician/ performing artist at the time who had just been signed to a major development deal with a major label. I smoked cigarettes and marijuana. Drank alcohol, ate trashy food at all hours of night etc. Just to keep pace with industry contemporaries and the prescribed lifestyle of the "rockstar" while touring and recording. I wasn't taking care of my body, my BB worsened and because I was supposed to be the next hot thing I couldn't get a honest response from any industry people. I thought I was going crazy so I became very breath-aware and stopped networking with the same keenness and that had got me my contract. I began taking more time away from Development and focused on researching cures. I was a very extroverted aggressive problem solver with most things in my life,Things started to unravel with my label as I was no longer holding to my production schedules. My management team sat me down and had a breath intervention. Where they warned me that if I didn't shape up and start showing up for the networking events I would be dropped. So I panicked and scrambled, I went to every GP, ENT, DDS, INTERNALIST and specialist from Toronto to NYC. I had my tonsils removed, GI tract scoped and flushed. I spent most of the advance money I received (about 50k over a 3 year span) on surgeries, recovery times, washes, rinses, breath clinics, dentists, gums mints etc. With no lasting change to the BB at all. I lost faith in the medical profession as a whole.
Needless to say I lost it, the contract, the opportunities, the girlfriends, but I gained alot too. Through my BB experiences and the subsequent breath-obsession has forced me to become very aware of what I put in my body. I've quit smoking, eating red meat and I've become more diligent with my dental hygiene. Not to mention all fake superficial people I've been able to out and avoid. I'm still actively looking for remedies cause I still have the worse "fart mouth" ever but I've found ways to use it to motivate rather than debilitate. Its a lonely existence at times but from what I have seen so far on this site, there is support available for those willing to put themselves out there. THANK YOU

tonsil stones

Post by deebo »

It took me forever to find out about tonsil stones. I always thought they were like falling from the nasal area into the mouth and i just happened to cough them up a few times a year. After being on this forum and finding vids on youtube about stones , i now pull 1 about even month !!

I swish water in my mouth to try to clear them daily .Often While swishing ,I can taste the BB , cause the stone is just hanging on there. As soon as its out , I dont have that same bb taste when swishing. I feel revealed for the time being. I think over time the crypt can get bigger and hold bigger stones !! I never put a finger or anything in the actual crypt ,I push it out from the back . But I have started to use the shower head setting on course to basically pressure wash the area. I have dislodged a few stones this way .

I was reading another post where a guy was saying he was finding mysery stones after having his tonsils removed !! Someone replied that there are other similar crevices in the head that collect the foil stones too aside from the tonsil . BUT, we are all hoping for you and want to know if removing your tonsils cures your bb issues. Pleas Keep Us Posted .

W8ing2Exhale: I'm an artist as well and have been trying to get rid of this crippling disorder while still pursuing my work. Sounds like you did pretty well in terms of how far you got. Where do you live and what's working for you now, if anything?

I HAD A TONSILECTOMY.......AND THE ABSOLUTE ONLY DIFFERENCE YOU WILL SEE IS NO MORE STONES! I HAVE NOT SEEN NOT ONE SINGLE STONE IN 2 YEARS SINCE SURGERY. BUT I SWEAR THAT SURGERY SEEMS TO MADE THINGS WORST OFF. '
I KNOW IT SOUNDS WEIRD BUT STONES DONT CAUSE THE BAD BREATH BECAUSE ALL U HAVE TO DO IS CLEAN THEM OUT!!
B4 THAT SURGERY I COULD AT LEAST BE CLOSE TO PEOPLE, NOW I CANT EVEN BE CLOSE TO PEOPLE. NOW IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING IS SMELLY IN MY THROAT NEAR WHERE MY TONSILS US TO BE

I was really wondering about that . Heard the same from others, some actually said they where still getting Stones after removing tonsils !! Theory : that tonsils are just 1 of many crevices that the foul stuff can collect up,and a lack of tonsils of course can't stop the production of smell , only in that particular area .
With that said , one wonders why/how your BB is worse after tonsil removal . Could the scared area be causing more dryness? I was hoping to find an alternative to tonsillectomy. I heard there is a less invasive pillar type procedure or a laser thing . So that the tonsils aren't removed but shrank or closed. For instance , I only get stones in my right tonsil . If it were as small as the left side ,maybe it would be too small to collect stones in there too.
Theres lots of talk about the reasons adults shouldn't get tonsillectomies. Maybe worse BB is another thing to add to that list of reasons. I'm curious to hear from adults who have fixed BB from a tonsillectomy.

I was sure those stones were causing my bb.......WRONG!! I remember before I took my tonsil out I would try to remove the stones but they would be so hard to remove. Have not seen a stone in years......I almost forgot what they look like.

At my ENT appointment this week Im going to see is this nagging feeling down in my throat another crypt or pocket that I cannot see. I bet it is.

ps I scar very easily but i guess inside flesh reginirates cleaner and faster...i have no scaring. that i can see. Looks different back there though....i could have kept my tonsil in.
