Post by coconuthead »

I know that some of you say you have room filling bb. How can you tell? How do you know?

I definitely know I have bb, but I'm certain it's not room filling. At least I don't think it is. I can talk to people for several feet away without them smelling it. Like maybe 15-20 feet. Any closer and think they'll smell it.

Considering the size of most rooms, I think you qualify.

Mike, I'm thinking 15-20 feet because sometimes I see people rub their noses. Like once I was standing at the podium in this really big lecture class. When I gave my presentation I saw this guy rub his nose. He was the only person I saw, though, so I thought maybe he smelled my breath. So, Mike after reading your answer I had my brother test my breath haha. He seems to be the only person who can actually be honest with me, because my mom will always tell me my breath doesn't stink.

We started at 2 feet. I'd just start talking, saying anything, and he said he could smell it. Then we went to 5 feet, he said he could still smell it. We went to 10 feet, he said he couldn't smell it. So, he moved down to 9 feet and he said he couldn't smell it. Then 8 feet and he said he couldn't smell it. 7 feet he said he could slightly smell it. So now, I'm thinking my breath doesn't reach as far as I thought. Maybe I was just being paranoid. Maybe people were just rubbing their noses, because it actually itched. I don't know.

You were definitely being paranoid. People do occasionally rub and touch their noses.

The brother test you did is very informative for you.. I've experienced similar experiences in classes, distances between students that sort of tell me what my range is usually..

Anyway, It's been known to travel more than 6 feet. I imagine it's the same as yours, and that breath coming out of someone's face typically only travels so far before either the BB diminishes or the air is dispersed enough.

As for room filling, when I'm running around and playing with kids, and the room is less than 10 by 10 feet, that's definitely room filling. When I'm all hot and sweaty, it really flows out of me.. and I think it becomes room filling.

So really, I'm not sure it's "room filling", so much as 'takes up the whole room as long as you are around and speaking in it". If you're talking to someone across the room and they can still smell it, it's basically room filling.

However, I have smelled BO that lingers for quite a long time... A couple gross red necks came into this store I used to work out.. Extreeemely fat guy. They had horrible teeth. I think they just didn't bathe. Anyway it was a horrible smell that hung around for a while.

I know mine is room filling because people start reacting from several feet away. Even in the complete outside areas, people who stand 10 feet away start rubbing their noses. I've been in a closed room with a bunch of people and I could tell just from their facial expressions that I was stinking up the room.

As a matter of fact I still remember a month ago when I went to eat at a korean bbq place with my friends. The waitress brought in a giant plateful of garlic and spread it on our grill so they could try and cover up my smell. I know it's because of my smell because no place would ever use so much garlic like that. Normally its just a handful of garlic in a tiny dish. I still think its pretty funny how they had to bring in so much garlic haha.

Coconut , your test with your brother is awesome ! Commendations go to him for his honesty and help. For SUre !

things to keep in mind :
your odor will likely not always be the same smell or intensity .

peoples olfactory senses are not the same from person to person

today when i went to do rare errands , i could tell from reactions my odor was low , like I could stand within 5 feet and ppl could smell me but they didn't move back or cringe or all the other stuff . If I don't watch my diet i know i can make ppl 10 feet away start having runny nose , clear their throat ,leave the room ..etc . I really don't think its up to paranoia ,because I really don't care as much as I used to anymore .

At my job there are long hallways ,like 100 ft and more. Now dozens of time I have watched ppl react when I get into certain ranges . Now if people wanted to rub their noses or cough or sneeze ,gag, wince ...whatever.. they could have done this when i was 50+ feet away ,but I'm watching them and they do not. Anyway “just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you” ~ Cobain
