As long as you can feel any small amount of snot lingering at back of nose/throat, you have to suck it back and swallow it or spit it out, and keep doing that until every last bit is gone, because otherwise its festering bacteria up there and eventually contaminating the roof of mouth, sides of throat, mouth and tongue. You have to be hydrated well, though, to get it all out. Then after ten minutes of that on and off, once it's all out, brush the surfaces of the mouth and throat and tongue to get the contaminated mucous off, and then you can suck on a peppermint.
