Halitosis diagnosed by a specialist

Hi. My name is Ribeiro, I'm 31 and I'm from Portugal.
I had Halitosis for almost 15 years and visited a lot of Doctors and Dentists with no success.
Since 24 January, I've been diagnosed with type 1 Miyasaky Halitosis (3/5). I've had positive for 3 types of bacteria in my mouth: tanerella forsythia; solobacterium moorei; provetella intermedia. Also had presence of indol, escatol, putrescine and cadaverine in my saliva. The saliva flow was normal, although a bit alcaline.
The Doctor prescribed the following treatment:
Metronidazol 500mg every 12h for 10 days
Amoxiciline 875mg + Clavulanic Acid 125mg every 12h for 8 days
Omeprazol 20mg every day, first thing in the morning, for 2 months
Wash both nostrils with 5ml saline solution - morning and night (ingest some of the solution to clean the back of the throat).
Use Ultradex Mouthwash twice a day gargling (after breakfast and after dinner)
Use Micropore adhesive in the mouth during sleeping (to discard mouth breathing).
Drink at least 2 liters of water every day.

Also gave me an extensive Nutrition plan wich consists on eating more raw foods, vegetables and fruit. Stopped eating Dairy, processed foods, fast food and specialy Pork meat. I have to avoid red meat also, but chicken and turkey are both Ok.
He told me that my BB is most likely due to Post nasal drip (allergies) and maybe gastrointestinal issues (unknown at the moment).

Im on the 7th day of treatment and my BB is almost gone.

It is not good to recommend antibiotics to anybody....this is standard doctor procedure that they do all the time. Your bb has diminished because of antibiotics......you are not cured....your bb will probably come back in few days, just as it happened to other people....

That's good that you got the species of bacteria identified. What are the other types of Halitosis? You said Miyasaky Halitosis (3/5) - is that because they identified just three bacteria that are causing the bad breath? I am also about to find out what the actual bacteria in my mouth are.

Tannerella forsythia - this is a gram-negative strain of bacteria - antibiotics will not help - it is a superbug

Solobacterium moorei - gram-positive - you probably don't want to kill this off - although it is directly linked to halitosis sufferers. It's actually found in every halitosis sufferer.

Sounds like a good plan. Usually we will just try antobiotics alone, or diet alone. The key might be to combine them. The additional nasal wash to stop the PND might be key to.
What is the name of this specialist?

Hi everyone. First thing to be clear, I did not said I was cured, but at least I have something diagnosed.
My wife told me that my breath is 90% better, and tomorrow is the last day of antibiotics. I'm also going to ask a friend of mine to give a honest opinion about my breath in a few days.
Regarding to my medical history, I only suffer from Allergic Rhinitis and PND (thick mucus). I'm allergic specially to dust mites. In the next weeks/months I'm going to do more exams to discard gastrointestinal issues. Also, I have perfect teeth, all widsom teeth removed and a perfect oral hygiene. Had Septum Rhinoplasty in 2013.
Type I Miyasaky Halitosis (3/5) means that in a scale from 1 to 5, I have a 3, being 5 very severe halitosis.
The Doctor said this is most likely a rhinosinusal issue. Apears that PND mucus has proteins that feed bad bacteria causing tongue coating and other stuff. His name is Dr. Jonas Nunes.

I agree. Antibiotics was the one that wiped out both good and bad. But anyway, just update us ribeiro.

Thank you for your availability, but its a bit distant from Lisbon to where Im actually based (Oporto)
Yesterday I´ve been with a friend of mine and asked her honest opinion about my breath. She laughed a lot and told my my breath smells like normal breath, she didn't noticed any bad smell at all. I have to confess that I felt relieved.
