Hi I just wanted to see if I could get advice or hope here.
Basically I've had breath for the last 3//4 years and never had before then. Anytime people are near me and I talk or even breath they immediately rub their nose or cover it constantly and sometimes cough alot.
I went to the doctor finally over the last year and they did blood tests etc and everything was fine so he gave me ppis to try as I said breath was sour when I smelled it. Well it went amazing cured my bad breath almost completely for a week was getting no reactions excent after meals. However my body didn't like it and had an allergic reaction of some sort and now ppis don't work at all!
I'm wondering if anyone's lost weight and cured acid reflux breath or it helped? That's the advice my doctor gave me as im obese and I'm hoping this will work or there is some other cure! The stomach doctors here won't see patients unless they're dying basically so that isn't an option.

Its unfortunate that you had some sort of allergic reaction but its good to know that you were actually on to something that was giving you great results. At least that tells you that acid reflux is definitelyyy your problem. I have acid reflux and the PPIs did absolutely nothing for me. I would try some alternatives if I were you. Losing weight helps and maybe a GERD-friendly diet. See how those work out for you.

Histamine-2 blockers (e.g. ranitidine) are an alternative to proton pump inhibitors. They also reduce acid reflux but work in a different way.Unrivaled wrote:Hi I just wanted to see if I could get advice or hope here.

Re: Acid Reflux Breath?
Well an update to this, tried several ppi brands over the last year and they either help for a couple days and stop working or don't help at all.
Now the breath is way worse or at least the reactions. People are holding their nose and rubbing but now I'm also getting the majority of people I talk to sniffling, coughing, clearing their throat like they're dying, peoples noses start running and they reach for Kleenex, peoples eyes start watering and they rub their eyes.
Noone should use proton pump inhibitors because I think they screwed my body up worse. Ive been questioning now whether I maybe have TMAU but I'm not sure. They did an endoscopy and I had some inflammation/gastritis in stomach but no h pylori. But the reactions are so bad it has to be TMAU at this point?
I don't understand though when I smell anything bad I sometimes cough but don't get nose, eye and throat irritation. And a few people I asked say they don't smell anything yet are reacting like they're about to die when around me.

If you have predominant fishy smell, you might need to be checked for TMAU. But if I remember it right, it's like the whole body will emit this fishy smell (body odor most likely, no matter how many times you take a bath).
Re: Acid Reflux Breath?
Wow that's so strange! Your breath might not be that bad. You said it's like a musty scent. People are reacting more so as if their is something about you that their allergic to. Maybe its something inside you causing these reactions not so much as the smell itself. Maybe theirs something to high or to low. I don't know but I have heard of people on here that get similar allergy like reactions from people.
Re: Acid Reflux Breath?
adding something, the only time I think you can get the teary eyed reaction (aside from sulfuric smell) is when something smell sour
I had a classmate in elementary, she was a friend, she smelled sour like white vinegar (I'm not sure if it was her sweat, or some other parts of her body) I could tolerate it though, maybe hers was not so bad at that time but you could smell it everytime (no its not the same as the sour from smelly feet, its a different kind of sour)

I get whiffs of it from time to time but I'm not sure what it smells like. I used to think acidic or musty but sometimes lately is like meat or ammonia even. I'm positive there is a smell but you start to question yourself.Kd1994 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 3:38 am Wow that's so strange! Your breath might not be that bad. You said it's like a musty scent. It's very odd though as no one has confirmed I actually smell. I've heard some comments about it stinking for example in a restaurant or people moving away from me and staring in a sitting waiting area. But my doctor says "maybe it's in your head" and my father is adamant that there is no smell (yet he reacts to it).
Also makes it even more confusing is my boss will complain when a customer smells so I'm not sure he would do that if he thought I smelled? But then he rubs his nose, coughs and sniffles crazy when talking to me so I'm just not sure anymore.

Yes I used to get that sour or acidic smell but it can be a mix of smells I'm pretty sure depending what I eat.space wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 5:12 am adding something, the only time I think you can get the teary eyed reaction (aside from sulfuric smell) is when something smell sour

Makes it confusing though because the proton pump inhibitors originally seemed to help then suddenly stopped.
And my specialist doctor after she did an endoscopy told me there "is no way acid reflux or gastritis can make your breath smell constantly". But then a simple google search says it can so I think doctors are basically useless.
Re: Acid Reflux Breath?
I took those ppis too, after the doctor told me to take them for GERD (which did nothing at all) but it was also the same time, I could fill up a classroom (the professor even telling the whole class about "this smell", wtf)
Continue observing and researching, and get a better description of what your bb smells like. It will help you in finding your solution. Hoping for better days to come.

Re: Acid Reflux Breath?
I've been fortunate in a way that I haven't been in busy classrooms or situations lately so I feel for you. I get enough anxiety just going grocery shopping and purposely go when it's a less busy time. I have a few family weddings coming up in a few months and I'm just shaking already thinking about the reactions and comments I'll get.space wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 5:47 am I took those ppis too, after the doctor told me to take them for GERD (which did nothing at all) but it was also the same time, I could fill up a classroom (the professor even telling the whole class about "this smell", wtf)

I would recommend getting off the ppis though. The reaction my body had to it (allergic reaction to one of them) where I ended up in the hospital and also ended up finding out I was allergic to benadryl which they kept giving me for a few days in the hospital, completely destoyed my body. Those pills make things worse not better.
I would give anything to go back to the regular bad breath I had just over a year ago with only nose rubs and not the added sniffles, coughs, throat clears, eye irritation etc.
