ha ha - that made me laugh

I can only assume that everyone that has nasal and oral once only had oral BB... It then mutates into a stink cloud that follows you around...

very depressing

chubbygirl wrote:@angst-ridden : regarding tonsil stones, there are people who have their tonsils cauterized to remove (and i guess prevent) the formation of tonsil stones. since ent's refuse to perform tonsillectomies unless you get tonsillitis 4x a year, the treatment they're at least willing to do is cautery. i don't know how effective that is, but i guess you could take that up with your ent. also, you might wanna have yourself checked for possible pnd while your at it; i mean, you may have it without knowing it right?

as for the bacterial imbalance . . . i guess you could take a CBC test (blood count) or a blood culture. if you have an overabundance of white blood cells, it means you have a bacterial infection. you could also try consulting an infectious diseases specialist for this. im actually going to visit an infectious diseases specialist for a possible candida overgrowth.

off-topic, i just recently started using a waterpik. i really do not know if it has reduced my bb in any way (i dont know how reliable the lick smell test it, but i no longer get the sour/overripe fruit smel from it), and it has definitely given me a cleaner mouth feel. i bought a portable waterpick at this dental supply store in legarda, they sell it for half the price compared to the ones sold at the mall :)
What is tonsil cauterization? Did you undergo that? This is the 1st time i heard that term. I rarely get tonsilitis, so i'm probably not qualified to undergo it. By the way, i already consulted an ENT, and she didn't find anything wrong with me. I don't have a coated tongue and i don't have mucus constantly stuck in my throat, i think that's what PND is like right? :-) and yes, i was diagnosed with low red blood cell count last 2006 and was prescribed to drink some tablets. Do you think that being anemic can cause BB? Um, i haven't heard yet of waterpik. I'm gonna research that one.

tonsil crypt cauterization

Post by chubbygirl »

@ angst-ridden: they cauterize your tonsils to close up the crypts. i just had that done today. the ent vehemently refused to take out my tonsils. he said it involed a major surgery (as in they use a general anesthesia [shot through the spine---shudder!] and put you under), you'd have to be admitted to the hospital, and you won't be able to eat for about a week. he says the pain and the risks i'd have to go through far outweigh the benefits. actually, if you look at the other posts, almost everyone says their bb remained even post-tonsillectomy.

anyway, the principle behind cauterization is they "burn" the tonsil crypts, then the crypts close up and smoothen (like a scar), supposedly leaving no room for the tonsil stones to ferment/grow, or no place for food debris to get stuck in. i'm going back in a month to see if the crypts have permanently closed up. sigh. i really hope this is the solution to my tonsil stone problem. i'll pm you the details of the doctor who does cautery. the procedure takes 5minutes and stings just a touch :)

the ent also said not to use mouthwashes as they change the normal oral flora, and the strong ones flush out the good bacteria, which in turn contributes to formation of tonsil stones. something to that effect :)
