I chewed alotta gums with sugar and it started really messing up my teeth.
But with artificial sweeteners I didn´t have that problem at all. I chewed 5 pieces whole day for months and no problem with my teeth. So it´s safe I think.

jess is right xylitol helps fight bacteria in the mouth and a sugar substitute we can use especially those people who have candida, stevia can also be used i think. just like you, i used to eat sugar free gums and candies before then i found out that some sugar free gums and candies are not really sugar free! they have this added artificial ingredients like aspartame so beware of that, and this other types of sugar alcohol like sorbitol, etc. what i noticed about chewing sugar free gums is that after a few minutes it makes my breath warm and i kinda have this different odor cant explain. so im thinking its probably because its not 100%xylitol sweetened maybe due to aspartame and other artificial ingredients. i still eat candies but not sugar free coz first its hard to find a certified 100%xylitol gum and candy sweetened in my country and 2nd its pretty expensive! so i eat regular candy sometimes. i've tasted one time this sugar free gum Peelu and notice that i've been chewing it for couple of minutes and notice doesnt add coating to my tongue! i also saw online this xlear brand of gums and mints havent tried it yet.
