Bringing up bad breath with the doctor
Update:
Getting the following tests done on Aug. 30th(wish it was sooner though):
-H.pylori test(aka urea breath test...feel sorry for whoever's administering it...)
-blood test to screen for Celiac disease
-abdominal ultrasound
On Sept. 7th(hate the wait, it's seems like it's so far away):
-Barium swallow for upper GI
If everything turns up negative, I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist on Sept.24. If something turns up, she will call me before then.
This family doctor has been so good so far. Great followup on every test. She's pretty determined to figure out what's wrong with me(well, the digestive problems anyways). I don't know if she's just paying special attention because my cousin's her daughter in law but knowing that she's concerned is keeping my spirits up. I'm also really grateful that while not perfect, the Canadian healthcare system allows me to have all these tests done for free.
I haven't pushed her on seeing an ENT yet because right now, our focus is on digestive and upper GI problems. I guess I'll have to say something if everything comes back okay.

Aside from bb, I've always had digestive problems for as long as I can remember(gas after eating, bloating, stomachaches, cramps, etc). The gastroenterologist I'm seeing is supposedly quite "good" and is an associate professor at our provincial university. Hopefully, she can figure out WTH is wrong with me.
yeah, I was told that too. The doc I saw was like director of gastro medicine at NYU. He was intelligent, and spoke way over my head. He was entertaining himself with his own knowledge, and talking about cases 50 years back about people with problems. He INSISTED that my problem was only throat related... even though other doctors have confirmed HH.hopeful wrote:Aside from bb, I've always had digestive problems for as long as I can remember(gas after eating, bloating, stomachaches, cramps, etc). that's just it... he wasn't specific. He just routed me to an ENT.... who then told me to get a 2nd opinion from a gastroenterologist!Larc400 wrote:...what specific throat problem did he suggestelliott wrote:He INSISTED that my problem was only throat related... even though other doctors have confirmed HH.
Celiac Disease or an Allergy maybe a good point
I just wanted to add that I also was told that I may have Celiac's and Iam currently being tested for it. I was tested for dairy allergy and came in off the charts..... I knew some dairy did not agree with me but I never knew it was this bad. I have been off dairy now 2 weeks really helped PND problem. FYI : I can have products from sheep and goat so it is not so bad. Breath problem not so bad , I also am fo;;owing gluten free diet until I know for sure about Celiac's...... it seems to be helping BM function which in turn helps breath issue. WOW this is complicated ...... but I feel this gets to the root of the problem !!! So allergy could be a key player for some of us.

the blood test is not very accurate
they test for celiac disease by taking a biposy (cutting a piece of) your small intestine out via endoscopy and simply seeing if it is damaged. If it is, then a diagnosis for celiac disease is made, which means you are allergic to gluten (a protein in wheat). Being a celiac is a life-long condition with no cure and you must refrain from ingesting even the smallest particle of gluten. this means you cannot share toasters, chopping boards, even ovens with people who eat regular foods, because just one grain of flour in your body will trigger an immune response to the "invading" gluten molecule, and you will be sick for weeks.
I thought i was a celiac even though the test came back negative. I went on a gluten free diet for a few months and everything resolved itself (diareah, bloating, gas). Now i can eat anything i want except for lactose. Apparently you can just be intollerant to gluten, rather than allergic, and a gluten free diet for a while can rebuild you tollerance to it.
