It's back

Post by CyberchndriacNot »

 I'm so sad... it's back. The antibiotics only work whilst they're in the system. I awoke this morning with that warm wafty feeling coming out of my throat. I knew it was back, but I couldn't taste or smell anything. My husband confirmed the worst. "It stinks and smells of poop - even worse than before." Drinking water didn't help it in the slightest (not that it did before!). I don't believe it's worse. Before I could smell it and knew that if filled a room, but I don't think it is this bad. I've taken a probiotic capsule so we'll see if that puts it under control. Maybe I need to be taking them at night before I go to slepp as well.

I'm trying to think of any warnings or changes I noticed in the last couple of days. Last night I was teaching and as I leant over to explain something (I'be been able to do this for the first time in my life for the past 3 weeks without receiving flinches) I got a whiff of that all too familiar smell and thought, 'It's not coming from me - it must be them.' Nobody flinched which made me think it was them. But thinking back, I think it was me.

What changed in my diet? Two days ago I ate fish and I made a soup based on a meat broth. Could this have triggered some sort of ketosis? Am I allergic to meat protein??? I'd been sourcing my protein from yoghurts, cottage cheeses and lentils/beans before. Or does this exactly mimic austuser's experience with symptoms totally independent of diet?

I'm shattered. 3 weeks of freedom down the drain. It's going to be a real struggle. Whilst BB free, I secured a full-time job next year to head a department and also secured a part-time teaching job at a university. Both interviews took place during the 3 weeks of freedom. I was rejected for two other positions just before I went on the triple therapy. Coincidence or not?

So many unanswered questions... so disappointed... ](*,)

Austuser, if you're still around, tell us what stage you're at?

mastic might be the answer

Post by CyberchndriacNot »

Mico, I marinated fresh Nile Perch fillet in chopped parsley leaves and lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Jimi save your liver, the antibiotic doesn't work, well not on its own. Maybe in combination with something else? Maybe I used the wrong probiotic, I don't know.

Anyway, after my inital shock I sat down to look for some way of dealing with this. I knew that I had eliminated all bacteria good and bad from my system. I had been supplying my body with good bacteria, but somehow the bad bacteria was starting to dominate over the bad. I knew I had to do something to contain it. I made myself porridge and sprinkled a tablespoon of powdered cinnamon and cloves. After the porridge my husband said that the poop smell wasn't as strong but that it was still there.

I recalled that before I went on the TT I had read that a tree resin found in Greece called mastic had been used for centuries to deal with gastric and bad breath problems. I had no idea what the substance looked like. So I googled mastic and got to Wikipedia. I recognised the resin in the picture as I'd seen it in all the local marketplaces. I had never known what it was in the stores. So I went down to the shop to buy some and not really knowing what to do with it, I made myself a camomile tea and put it into the tea to dissolve. I drank the tea and ate the gooey remains of the resin (UUUggghhh - but will try anything) and my bad breath instantly cleared. The warm wafty feel has gone. It is now 5 hours later and my husband says that my breath smells clinically fresh, as if I've just been to the dentist.

I don't know how to describe it but it feels as if the whole of my insides have been disenfected with a strong longlasting mouthwash.

Now I need to work out if it was a combination of cloves, cinnamon and previous doses of antibiotics, plus the prebiotics that made it work or whether it was the mastic on its own that worked. I haven't had any side effects as of yet.

Check out the website and see if you can get hold of some of this resin - I think this one might be a goer.

An interesting bit of history I found on the site was that during the Ottoman Empire the Sultan used to give the mastic to his harems for fresh breath and white teeth! How about this for a bit of confidence boosting!!! \:D/

PS I'll copy my observations into a new thread as it's in the wrong place.

Just the bad breath. Flossing hasn't produced the smell that I used to get before the TT, although tongue looks the same as before. I felt a thickening of the mucous layers at the back of the throat when I came off the antibiotic, but don't really notice it now, although I can feel sthing there. I also had an allergic reaction - the first in my life - when I took a probiotic capsule, a vitamin B tablet and an Omega 3 capsule, but that cleared within a couple of hours.

expect the smell between your teeth when u floss to come back, maybe even worse (as in, the smell might come to all the gaps in your teeth whereas before it was only inbetween a few). Why this is, i dont know.

My breath is kind of where it was before i had TT and is still fairly managable. I rotate with K12 probiotics and triscolan mouthwash. Different days produce different results. Sometimes my mouth is super dry and my tongue is yellow and smelly, other times my tongue remains white and moist and my breath is not too offensive. Sometimes its super fresh. I dont smoke and my diet is average even though i doubt diet is a factor in bb.

At the moment im loofing forward to getting my tonsils removed just as a safety, and im gonna try Smartmouth (tri-oral) when it gets here. I know most people said it doesnt work but hey. Sounds like this mastic stuff is worth taking a look at. Keep us posted.

So CyberchndriacNot your tongue went back to white?

Its strange that some people here have a fecal smell between their teeth. I only had that once and it was between 2 teeth (it also was the only spot from my whole mouth where my gums bled) and that was cleared after a few weeks of very good flossing.

Just had a look in the mirror and my tongue is very white. Do I have BB? I don't know. been too busy celebrating Easter Monday. When I wake up tomorrow morning I might be in a better condition to report.

Good to hear from you austuser! try the mastic, see if it improves ur condition. I think I might go to bed this evening without anything (just clean my teeth and do a floss) and see what happens. will report in morning...

Noptical, I always had smell between my teeth before. no smell atm tho. and i've got sound teeth. always visited the dentist regularly. the differences might be due to differnt bacterias in our bodies...

sorry about the bad news guys. i took a course of metronidozal several months ago and believe it has alleviated my halitosis by about 50%. it has worn off since then but I still believe my breath now is better than it was before. as long as i dont smoke cigarettes (dries my mouth terribly) then my breath can be decent. also ive been considering the complete h pylori treatment but man, im so wary of antibiodics.
