What brand are you using?

Thanks in advance
i don't know what brand i'm using. it came in a box but it occurred to me that the owner probably used something different, only using other packaging material, because he asked asked me how much i wanted - if it had come in a box originally i wouldn't have been able to choose. plus the box was not sealed when it arrived.

but if you're in the US, i can let you know where to get (or order) it. you can PM me for the info.

Get some and let us know if they work for you. Also can you find out more about it? What are the different forms it comes in? What can you do with the different forms? What it's been known to cure? Side effects? Short-term / long-term use? Thanks Noptical, it will help us to pool our body of knowledge together.

I took some to class last night to ask my adult students what it was. They all helped themselves to a resin each, popped it into their mouths and just started chewing it as if it was a daily event. Nobody had it sticking to their teeth, like I did! I asked them what they use it for and they said they've been using it for thousands of years to keep their digestive systems clean. They said that it's also good for colds, mucous, phlehm, congestion and good for the stomach. They also use burn the tear shaped resins in an incense burner when they cook fish.

I asked them what I had and from their folk knowldge they said I have one packet of mastica - the Chios variety, one packet of luban (the opaque one they took which comes from trees found in Oman) and something else from ethiopia or somalia that they couldn't name. The packaged gum I bought is from Kurdistan and they dismissed that one as it had been processed. Somebody said that he was going to put me in touch with a specialist in the field.
yea, noptical. being greek, if you could provide us with some info, that'd be great. :)

cyber, i have to say this personal project of yours is turning into something quite interesting culturally. :) the one that has been working the best for you - did you find out where that's from? i figured the processed gum probably wouldn't work as well as the natural stuff, but i guess i'll have to wait and see after i try it. plus, something that i can carry around with me would be very convenient.

On the way to school this morning (7:30am) I chewed on the transparent resin, the origins of which still remain unknown! It is now nearly 5:30pm and my husband confirms that I am BB free. Chewing on the resin seems to provide relief for the longest period of time. I will be going out this evening so will chew on some more to keep me going and hopefully will wake up with OK breath tomorrow morning...

Today, I spoke to a lady who was taught of the power of medicinal herbs by her desert ancestors. Just so that you are aware, she is in her late 30s, very 'Western' in her ways and has access to all the information and knowledge accessible to people in the 'West'- an educated woman, but values her cultural past and traditions. In other words, she is no 'quack!' She regulary administers resins and other products to her children for a variety of ailments. The information was invaluable - not specifically related to BB, but to a variety of other conditions that could be related. I made notes of them and am reproducing them here.

First of all she mentioned that many products perish and lose their healing properties if they're not properly stored. She said tree resins wouldn't do harm if you were to eat them past their optimum dates. Resins will discolour and by looking at them, smelling them and feeling their texture, one could tell if they were suitable for use or not. (Could this explain the inconsistency I have experienced in the resin's application to my condition?)

Mastica is yellow and comes as tiny pebbles (like split peas). It is sourced from Egypt. If it is too brittle, it's apparently old and has lost most of its properties. Here they use about 4 pebbles in a large pot of soup to take away the bad smells/tastes/bacteria of a chicken or meat in a soup. They say its anti-fungal/bacterial properties kills any bacteria that might not be killed by the hot water. It is also used in sweets, but we didn't talk about it's purpose in sweets.

Myrrh is a resin used for peptic ulcers, heartburn, indigestion and interior clean. It is steeped in boiling water and then the essence is drunk. It is quite strong and is not to be used during the first 4 months of pregnancy. It is often mixed with dried grated pomegranate skin and honey for peptic ulcer treatment. This mixture should be taken daily for 4 months.

Luban resin (I think it is frankincense - but still need to have this confirmed) is chewed and is good for relieving sinuses (it's not a cure!) and thinning mucous and phlegm in the nose, throat and bronchial tubes. This comes from Oman.

Khiel is very good for infection, flu symptoms and is a natural antibiotic. Women also use it to alleviate period pain. I do not know what this looks like but apparently you take a small piece for 7 days.

The lady said that fortnightly she detoxes herself and the children. She takes hilul leaves, crushes them and steeps them in hot water before drinking the brew. (It sounds like milk thistle, but I don't think they get that here.) Within 24 hours the detox is over and she feels that her insides have had a good clean.

Talbino is a barley drink that they drink regularly to maintain an intestinal balance. A consistent metabolism is keyword here.

Which one of these could possibly help us? It probably depends on our conditions and their causes. I know that the transparent resin works the best for me, but what it is and how it heals? I'm yet to find out...

Tomorrow, the lady said she will bring me samples of the above items with their botanical and local names, so I look forward to our next meeting![/i]

I am wondering if there's something wrong with my saliva? Maybe I have an enzyme deficiency? I'm chewing the luban chewing gum and it's sticking to the roof of my mouth, to my teeth and can't hold it's shape. everybody else whom i have seen chew it, including my husband who doesn't have BB is able to maintain the mass in one blob and it doesn't stick to the teeth! There must be a reason for this...

No, I have found that the processed gum from Kurdistan especially gets the saliva going. What I mean is that my saliva production whilst I've been trying these resins has improved, and especially when chewing on this gum. I don't think I ever had a very dry mouth. I used to years ago, but learnt to deal with it by keeping my mouth closed when I slept and I've increased my intake of water and will drink at least 2-3 litres of water daily on top of other fluids such as teas.

wow 10 hours of relief! that's amazing. i only get like 2 or 3 at this point, but it seems to be improving. during the earlier part of the day my breath is better. it's still not quite making it as the day goes on. Cyber, before the mastic, did your breath get worse in the evening as well?

chewing - do you boil it before you chew it or you just pop it into your mouth? for how long do you chew it for?

steeping - how long are you supposed to steep it for? i can't always do overnight. just wondering what the custom is over there for the medicinal property to come out.

too bad to hear that it doesn't cure sinus problems tho'. because since i've been feeling different in my sinuses, i have high hopes for that.

anyway what a wealth of treasure you've stumbled on! thanks so much for sharing!

CyberchndriacNot, I've been following the thread loosely, and I'll first say your efforts are awesome.. You try so many different things and think about the results objectively.. I really like reading your posts..

Anywhoo, what is the exact product that you have been using now? Did you say it came in an unmarked package? This resin sounds very interesting..

Also, how did you manage to meet herb specialist? Very intriguing :-k
