I'm one of those who finds it working.
I'm in the Uk too. I use the efervescent from Tesco (1000mg, sugarfree), mostly the raspberry flavor cos it's lovely, very cheap too, less then a pound for 20. (I used to buy pure Vit C capsules, opened them and used the powder only, but they are too expensive.)
I put 2 in a bit of water in the morning and 3 in the evening before bedtime, and drink another 2 or 3 doubles during the day. So that is about 10-12000 mg. When i have a cold, i drink 1 every hour.
Yes, i know its a huge amount, but any less and i don't get the effect.
I also alternate it with organic apple cider vinegar. As there has been posts about it, i drink shots of it, a shot of vinegar with same amount of water. I drink that 3-5 times a day. If i need a quick fix i drink it every hour and after 4 or 5 shots all the white coating is gone from my tongue. It's also good for my digestion and the excema on my hand is almost fully gone. It's not as tasty as the Vit C tho, but works just as good.
I drink both solutions with a straw, making sure it doesn't touch my teeth, and drink it fast.
So in my opinion it is the acidity that makes it work.
I still have tonsilstones, but see them less and less lately, not sure why, i'm conducting a no milk product experiment, lets see what happens.
I have posted about these things several times in the past
The only time it doesn't do the trick is when i'm dehydrated, so i sip water all day long.
The best thing is that i can eat now without needing to brush after as my tongue stays clean of the white stuff. I still brush (with tung brush) in the evening before i go out tho as sometimes towards the end of the day i feel i need a bit of refreshing.
It's been working for me for more than a year.
I would not exist without it.
I truly hope this helps
