I think we are by the very nature of bacteria: adapt to survive.
I bet the bacteria in our mouths today are more resilient than those of 3,000 years ago because over the past century mostly society has been overusing antibiotics, but also essential oils & chemicals in order to kill bad breath.
The more products we try the more the bad breath bacteria forms a resistance over time making the prospects of a cure that much more impossible to reach for the majority of us.
