Wow, I am SO glad I found this place.
A little background about myself:
I'm 22 years old and have been suffering with bad breath since I was 12. The first time I remember hearing a comment, was from my mother after I had just suffered a heavy bout of flu. I lost so much weight and that's when I think my bb really began. She told me it smelled like I hadn't brushed my teeth and I figured it was just because I had gotten over being sick. Not the case. I've had it every day since then...for the past 10 years.
I've been to the ENT and aside from him telling me I had some really bad acid reflux, nothing else was wrong with me. I can't believe that I could suffer from acid reflux that long and not feel anything. I still to this day don't feel anything but upon seeing him again today, he told me I must take the medication he prescribed me (Nexium). I don't think this is the cause of my bad breath though.
I DO have a thick white coating on the back of my tongue and no matter how long and hard I scrape, it NEVER comes off. Does anybody else have this problem? It just doesn't budge. I can tell that I'm scraping it because it leaves lines in the white gunk, but none of it ever comes off.
I just bought the K12 Therabreath crap and it doesn't work. I should have known better, especially since the products didn't work for me a few years ago when I tried them. I'll be returning that as soon as I can. I've been using them for about a week with no improvements. In fact, they made my mouth drier and probably made my breath much worse. I've never suffered from dry mouth and now it seems to be dry all the time. Thanks Dr. Katz. Thanks a lot.
Went to the store today and picked up some BreathRX and that seemed to make my tongue nice and pink again, but still, that back coating just won't come off. It's really starting to bother me because I'm starting to wonder if tihs is the cause of my foul breath. Over the years it's gotten worse and I can't think of any other reason besides the fact that the coating is building up on the back of my tongue. Who knows. The guessing game drives me insane.
My breath odor is characteristic of spoiled milk/cheese. it comes out of both my nose and mouth (same smell). This made me think that it was sinus related but now I'm thinking it's either back of the tongue or stomach issues. What do you all think?
I feel so defeated and alone. And really, I feel like I'll never be able to get rid of this problem and will be alone for the rest of my life. I envy my sister because she's BB free. She doesn't realize how lucky she is. She'll be able to have a life. I broke down in my doctor's office yesterday because I'm just sick of it, and he said we'll find a solution together. So hopefully he can give me a referral to a gastro-intestinal person and I can talk to them about my problems.
I'll be going to the dentist on tuesday to see what they say.
I can't keep living like this, especially since I'm starting a new job in a few weeks and I don't want to be known as the smelly person at work. Plus, I'm going to be talking on the phone all day, which is probably the worst job for someone with BB to have. Ugh, somebody tell me I'm not alone with this problem!

This problem is slowly killing me. Life is horrible.

Hi Tired and welcome! First of all please don't waste your money on stuff before you read about it in this forum, you will be saving lots of money! Your ENT said you have acid reflex, did he do a test or labs? Mine said I have post nasal drip but the nasal spray he prescribed does not remove my bb and it only dries the mucous. Just a bit of advice, if you run into any doctor, dentists, or your ENT and they tell you they don't smell anything and you have no bb, tell them a little lie like "I know I have it because my family and friends tell me I do" otherwise these professionals will make you feel confused and angry when you realize they are lying! Also, sometimes family members will lie too out of compassion. Once I told a sister about my bb and she denied ever smelling anything and demanded to know who told me I have bb and when I said my child did, she didn't say anything because she knew my child would not lie. Good luck with your dentists and I almost know he/she will say you have good teeth and gums and no dental problems, most of us pass our dental check up with flying colors

Me too!
Hi Tiredofthis: I too, have a thick white coating on my tongue. 2 days ago, I read this thread: viewtopic.php?p=9775&highlight=#9775 and it's been working well so far! Hardly any white coating!
Also, I suffer from tonsil stones which I wrote here: viewtopic.php?t=1605 When I remove them, my breath is a lot less smelly!
Talking on the phone at work is not bad...I quit my last job because it dealt with talking to a lot of people in person, and just couldn't take it anymore. I think I did everyone a favor that they don't have to smell me anymore, but at the same time it's so sad that I left a good job for that reason...
I also take probiotics and eat yogurt too. Hope we can someday get through this!

Thanks for the kind words everybody!
My doctor diagnosed my Acid Reflux by sticking a tube through my nose and down into my throat. I haven't been taking the pills for over a year but when I went back yesterday for a second opinion he said I must take them. So I'm back taking the pills again. I wish he would just let me do a CT scan or something just so I know it's not my sinuses giving me the problem, but no. I'm just going to keep trying to live my life the best way that I can. I mean, I have a great life and I've never really let the BB keep me down. I excel at anything I want and have a great job...people always seem to love me at any job I'm at. But still, there's always that feeling in the back of my mind that they KNOW I smell and it just upsets me. Fortunately I don't think my BB is bad enough to stink up a whole room or anything. But it's still there.](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

Dude, I know how you feel. Everytime someone step away from me, I feel so rejected. I became numb and acted as if it doesn't hurt me but on some days, I can't take this shit anymore.
I took a lot of antibiotics and Prevacid (same shit as Nexium) recently due to HP. I noticed that when I take them, my BB goes away. Antibiotics kill everything so therefore, no bacteria to cause foul smell. I have always suffered from Post Nasal Drip and somehow during this period, PND also went away too. Weird!
I thought that I might have an infection down my throat and the antibiotics cured it. I have allergies but on days when I don't, I still have mucus down my throat. As soon as I'm done with my medication, PND came back again. I went to the doctor and asked if I have an infection in my throat. He said no.
I suffer from major acid reflux. If I eat anything that is rich in protein, my throat would have a white coating. I recently read that acid reflux also causes mucous down your throat. So this is what I am currently taking and it helps a lot.
This is my daily routine.
2 Prevacid a day. 30 minutes before each meal.
A tablet of Zantac if I feel food is coming up
I clean my tongue.
I wash my mouth with smart wash. This actually works.
A tablet of Probiotic
I have tried this regimen for the last 4 days and it seems to help a lot. I also avoid food with high protein. I only eat them on the weekend when I know I'm not around people.
So take your Nexium, twice a day. Once a day doesn't help that much.
