Carbamide Peroxide and Bleach?

Post by Hank »

Hey all,

Just curious if anyone has tried using diluted bleach to brush, floss, tongue brush, and/or mouthwash?? According to at least some dentists, this can help to fight against bad bacteria in the mouth. Definitely research it first if you want to try it. The key is to dilute it down like 1 part to 10 parts water. Anyway, I'm experimenting with it and will let you know if anything positive comes of it.

Otherwise, I did a search on this forum for any discussions on bleach and found the following article about a carbamide peroxide procedure that Jimi posted about a year ago. Below is the post. Anyone try this?

Carbamide Peroxide

More than 90 million Americans can sigh comfortably because of new relief for their bad breath. Dental experts today revealed research highlighting a new treatment option that can eliminate halitosis or chronic bad breath at the Academy of General Dentistry's (AGD) 53rd Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C."Bad breath is no laughing matter and can actually be an indication of more serious health concerns such as infections," said general and cosmetic dentist, Louis J. Malcmacher, DDS, FAGD and AGD member.

The research showed that using low concentrations of carbamide peroxide, an odorless ingredient used to bleach and disinfect teeth, can effectively treat chronic bad breath. Patients seeking this treatment, which costs approximately $500.00, need to first visit their dentist to have customized trays or mouth guards made to fit tightly around their teeth.

A low concentration of carbamide peroxide is then placed in the tray and into the patient's mouth, where it remains for an hour. After the first treatment, patients are able to repeat this process at home for an hour everyday. After approximately three treatments, the patient will notice a significant change in their breath. Hank,

You might be on to something. I think there is a toothpaste which has this carbamide peroxide in it. Is oral B rembrandt whitening toothpaste.

And no people I am not working for rembrandt. I even had my tonsils out in Nov to get rid of this bb. So, I am not selling anything.

Just thought you would like to know there are other things you might want to use to get the carbamide peroxide instead of the just bleach.

But hank please let me know how the bleach goes. Its alot cheaper than rembrandt.

Hank, i've tried lots of different things in my moments of frustration, a few of them unmentionable on here, but since you've mentioned the bleach, i've tried neat household bleach brushed into my tongue and then with a small amount of water i gargled with it until it diluted it away. Certainly does as the label says, but like taking antibiotics, if its not dealing with the underlying cause, things soon return to normal again.
I tried injecting neat bleach into a gum pocket too, but again it will only blitz the germs, it doesnt stop them returning again.
As far as using (diluted) bleach sensibly on a long term basis to combat BB, i've never come across this before, but if its safe to do this then it goes without saying how effective it is as an antimicrobial. I dont think it will do tooth enamel much good tho.
