ACID REFLUX IN MY OPINION IS THE CAUSE OF BAD BREATH!!
In my opinion acid reflux is the cause..i'm 21 yrs old. i've been suffering from acid reflux for a couple of years, well at least that's when it starting bothering me I've had two upper GI's done. One i had to drink barium, and lay in x-ray table..The second was the tube down my throat..The reason why I feel I definitely have acid reflux and that it causes my bad breath cause for one I get stomach and heart burn really really bad..Also I get this sour, bitter liquid residue that comes up in my mouth that sometimes burn my throat, also you guys I get this WHITE SOLID LITTLE BALL LIKE THE SIZE OF A COOKED RICE THAT SMELLS JUST LIKE HALITOSIS BREATH !!! IT DOESNT SMELL LIKE POOP IT JUST SMELLS LIKE THE HALITOSIS BREATH..SOMETIMES I CAN FEEL IT ON THE BACK OF MY THROAT AND I WILL GET A Q-TIP AND PICK IT OFF AND I SMELL IT , BEFORE I GET IT TO MY NOISE I CAN SMELL IT.. SO I'M FOR SURE THE CAUSE OF MY BAD BREATH IS FROM ACID REFLUX MAYBE IF I GET MY TONSILS REMOVE THE FOOD PARTICLE THAT STINKS WON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO LINGER ON!!!! GOOD LOOK EVERYBODY THAT'S SUFFERING FROM THIS EXTREME NIGHTMARE THAT SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND..
Hi
There isn't such thing as "the cause of bad breath" because bad breath is a symptom to lots of things
Also I don't have acid reflux (rarely, a few times a year) yet I still have bb. Those food particles you mention arent food particles and the arent a product of acid reflux (although, who knows, one might worsen the other
), these are called tonsil stones and they come from your tonsils and indeed they smell like death. Some people have cured their bad breath by having their tonsils out. I will, too, in the summer.

Noptical`s right. ENTs in my country have this tendency to pinpoint acid reflux as the reason for bb, as a result they made me take antacids for over a year. Later on I found out that it actually made my bb worse coz a less acid environment in the stomach benefits the bad bacterias & yeast. I also read that a prolonged use of antacids could cause alzeimer`s probably because of its aluminum content.

I removed my tonsils for the very same reason. No change in bad breath. Please don't say how some people got rid of bad breath by having tonsils removed cause it simply isn't true. I know exactly what will be your reply to this.
And you are correct but trust me... i have yet to meet/see/read about a GENUINE person that GOT RID of chronic bad breath after having tonsils removed.
All of us who have done it know it simply isn't true. I would ask for less of political correctness considering statistical possibilities. Yes it's possible, i know it is but in real life that simply isn't case.
Getting them removed is like looking for misplaced car keys... in the attick. If you want to be certain then by all means do it just like the rest of us hehe. And don't get me wrong i'm not against or pro this, im just not believing one word to a person who says he/she got rid of chronic bad breath with tonsils removal. Peace
P.S. I'm new to this board but im not new to being angry at my almost lifelong bad breath. That's why im very cinical. Sometimes im more offensive than i want to be cause english is not my mother tongue. So please don't take it too personal.

About acid reflux. I did the same barium test where they put you upside down and get x-rays. They diagnosed me with Hiatus hernia the size of chicken egg. One GI specialist said to me that bad breath directly from stomach could only appear when burping.
Now, this gets me thinking there could be something to this reflux.
Maybe you should consider one alternative theory i read in a book "Candida albicans" by Leon Chaitow. He claims that people who have candida overgrowth and have heartburn actually have it because of LACK of enzymes and stomach acid. And that heartburn is actually caused because of candida overgrowth! And he says taking antacids when having heartburn in condition like this is actually contraproductive cause you need MORE stomach acid not less. So he says taking enzymes with food and not drinking water during meals. Thats what he says anyway...

Also that GI specialist said something that makes sense... he said if the reflux would be a problem then it would be while lying. If you would stand up it would go away. At the time that made sense to me cause no matter how long i would be standing up my breath was still stinky and didn't change one little bit.
I guess reflux could make bad breath worse. But thats about it. I don't see it nowhere near the root of the problem.
