Questions about "Finkelstein's tonsil smelling test

Dear Members and especially Professor Yehuda Finkelstein,

I decided to make the Finkelstein's tonsil smelling test described in the interview, because I think the origin of bad breath is in my tonsils. Yesterday I bought some medical gloves and in the evening, after I brushed my teeth, I tried to do it. But I had difficulties and failed. Today I tried to do the test again but I couldn't.

I didn't know how to "massage" it, where to "massage" it, where to touch it and additionally, the gag reflex was a big problem and forced me to stop.

So, Mr. Finkelstein and members who managed to do the test, can you please describe an acurate methodology for the test? Should the test be done by a doctor, or the pacients can do it succesfully too?

Thanks in advance.

C,

What Dr. Finkelstein is describing is massaging tonsil stones dislodging in the tonsils itself. Usually it has to be significantly large enought to physically see and touch. When I was a kid, I didn't know anything about keeping my tongue clean, bad breath, any intervention, naturally b/c I was only a kid, I had many tonsil stones. And I also noticed that tonsil stones form whenever I don't brush my teeth first thing in the morning while laying in bed. The bacteria in my saliva collects in my tonsils, thus, huge tonsil stones. Now I brush ASAP, so I don't get hardly any stones. But I do still have crypts and scares. I am schudle to see an ENT who performs laser cryptolosis. If he ok with performing the surgery I am going to have them done.

Ask Bronzjazzy. She knows alot about tonsil stones. Private email her. She'll answer your questions. Plus, she's a really net girl. We known each other for a long time. Will, only talking to each other via halitosis threads and forums. We used to talk on another forum a while back and we talk all the time. It really helps to befriend someone who you can talk to via private emails whenever you have problems, feel depressed, feeling sorry for yourself, ect. I hope you're a female, b/c bronzjazzy is. Of course I am not, but hey I am an easy person to talk to and I like people.

I hope this helps. I will keep you informed if my dr ok with laser operation for me.

Hang in there, C. Don't be discourage, ok? We are in this together and we need each other for support and encouragement.

To be honest, I don't even know if I have tonsil stones, I don't really understand what they are, how they look like and how to dislodge them. About crypts I am also not sure, I don't know to identify them. But, about 2 years ago, when I went to an ENT(for another problem) in other town(because I live in a rather small town and I don't know if we have good ENTs here) I mentioned at the end of the consultation that I "sometimes" have badbreath(because I was emberassed to admit that i always have it). And he said: "That's because you have big tonsils". I asked if I should have them removed and he said that I should chew gum. Of course, everybody on the site knows, chewing gum is not an efficient solution. So, I'm thinking very serious about the laser procedure, but I have to be sure that the origin of bb is in the tonsils. So I tried the Finkelstein's tonsil smelling test, as described in the interview, but I wrote in the first post that i failed. I will try it again.
