My story about bad breath, hairy tongue and a lack of saliva

Hello fellow sufferers,

First of al my English is not that good so please forgive me for the silly mistakes i’m going to make.

I suffer from bad breath, hairy tongue and a lack of saliva as long as I can remember.
Back when I was a young boy, age 6, I remember that I walked up to my mom and asked her about my tongue. It was all white and I asked, ‘’mommy, what’s wrong with my tongue?’’ she replied, ‘’o nothing special dear, it will go back to normal in a matter of days’’. Well, it did not.

When I was young, probably up to the age of 12, bad breath and the problems with my tongue didn’t really bother me, I was probably to busy with being a kid.
It was when I was going to high school I became more conscious of my problems and with that came the insecurity.
I am now extremely self-conscious.

Having bad breath and a hairy tongue is extremely exhausting for me. I always have to think strategically, don’t sit to close to someone, don’t open your mouth to far when you talk etc. etc.
The lack of saliva and my hairy tongue also effect my speech, I can’t articulate very good.

These problems have robbed me from my social life. I am now 23 years old and live a very isolated life.

I don’t know who I am anymore because it’s been a long time since I could be myself around other people. What I do know is that I’m an extravert person and suppressing myself from being extravert because I’m embarrassed that people would smell me or see my weird tongue is the most devastating thing in the world for me.

The last ten years I have used and did the following things to cure my bad breath and hairy tongue:

- Chlorine dioxide (MMS) (works somewhat for the smell, but gives me an even more hairy tongue due to it’s oxygenating character)
- Hydrogen peroxide (works somewhat for the smell but, gives me an even more hairy tongue due to it’s oxygenating character)
- Chlorhexidine
- Zinc lactate
- Baking Soda

- Alcohol based rinses (never use this people)
- Tetracycline (my doctor ones prescribed this for me, it was a capsule that I had to open and the content I had to put in a glass of water to make a mouthwash. When I used this my hairy tongue slightly improved, I could see a couple of dots of healthy tongue surface coming through)
- Bliss k12 (the original from Australia and from Swanson. The original bliss k12 worked better in my opinion)
- Retardex (chlorine dioxide)
- Oral b bocasan
- Threelac (aigainst candida)
- Kefir ( is a probiotic)
- Colon cleansing
- Diet changes

I hope to find a solution for my problems on this forum together with you guys.

some of them did work but I want a lasting solution.

At the moment I brush my teeth and tongue 2 minutes with hydrogen peroxide, than scrape my tonge.
After that I brush my teeth and tongue with regular toothpaste and scrape my tongue again.
After that I rinse and gargle with the 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with water 50/50.

This realy cleanes my mouth and I have fresh breath for at least 5 hours and 2 meals, after that i'm not sure.

This a very informative website about the use of hydrogen peroxide in the mouth and the safety of it: http://www.actualcures.com/hydrogen-per ... s-healthy/

what is 3% hydrogen? i bought this hydrogen peroxide, it just says "10 volumes." the other one says "20 volumes." there's no mention of percentage anywhere, and those were the only ones available. i don't even know what "10 volumes" means...

Chubbygirl,

Check "Active Ingredient". It should say Hydrogen Peroxide (stabilized) 3%. (The Hydrogen Peroxide you buy in a drug store is usually 3%).
