To my astonishment there isn't enough info on the link between bb and bile reflux it's not even listed as the symptom on several sites I've come across. But to me and bc of what ive learned on this site i believe bile reflux makes so much sense. if bile breaks down proteins and creates waste if it's stuck in the esophagus for any given period of time this would cause bb. What do u guys think? Any info?

I'm surprised more ppl are interested in this topic. It seems like this can be a likely cause for alot of us. The symptom i have that the user i linked above had as well is that i have more sensitive smelling i can smell my garbage can from my living room. I also feel like I have a aura of smell around me like she stated here or in another post not from bo but bc im exhaling this stench. I also feel a rottening like waste in my throat or esophogus when I eat which I think maybe the bile producing waste from proteins. Has anyone tried carafate or any other bile reflux treatments?

My BB becomes active the majority of the time, when I speak... I think an issue like this could still be on the table for me.

This sort of problem should be one of the highlighted possibilities for someone trying to solve their BB. I'll look more into it later.

this does sound interesting . Some test might be in order . What tests so far have you had run Grl ? I took tmau urine test today . (terrible waiting room reactions) : I think your symptoms are real similar to mind , have not ruled anything out yet .

If you find any info on this pls post on this site I looked thru several web pages and couldn't really find anything linking bb and bile reflux. Most sites Ive read said bile reflux is still pretty unfamiliar to alot of dr's alot of the time it is misdiagnosed as gerds or lpr but its most common to have silent reflux symptoms bc bile is alkaline so sometimes it can neutralize the acid not causing heatburn.

Yeah I've taken an at home h.pylori test kit which came back negative. I've also test my saliva, urine, and bowel movements all which came back normal levels. But if bile is alkaline and saliva is alkaline it makes since for my saliva to still be a normal ph. I also notice that another symptom me and bbforyears share is that it seems that when I smell something bad its like i start tasting it and it seems my bb starts smelling like it. if i do have bile in my esophagus it's like pretty much being a human garbage disposal. waste is being produced in the esophagus pipe like garbage just sitting in a disposal stinking up the kitchen.

yea , i just got neg h-py back too . Waiting for kidney as well as the tmau.
what you were saying about our odor making people have certain reaction is curious . Like the odor makes them start producing saliva or phlegm ,like to spit out of course ,, not swallow . In an elevator today , 90% of the people in there ,cleared their throat . In the waiting room ,100% did. All the while , i could Not smell my bb at all .

anyways, 2 more good places to browse are google books and google scholar. Found a very telling paper on twins with chronic halitosis from a gastric obstruction . http://pmj.bmj.com/content/66/777/568.f ... 899beed284

Either bile and/or tonsil stones, but not in the tonsils but stuck in other crevices or cavities down the esophagus.

I don't get em normally, but I think they are still down there. When I get a tonsil stone, my mucous becomes suddenly very strong tasting and I just get a sense something is there. Lo and behold if I start coughing something will dislodge.

Is it possible that we just have tons of bile/tonsil stones running all down our throat? Makes sense to me.

Could it be that bile is refluxing into the stomach, which then neutralizes the stomach acid, either allowing the stomach contents to putrefy and release odour directly in small bursts, or allowing putrefied content, full of bacteria, into the small intestine where putrified contents normally shouldn't exist, which then get absorbed into the bloodstream?

There is very little info on this. Bile itself doesn't smell bad. I've smelled gall-stones too and they dont smell bad either.

Yeah bile doesn't smell bad itself but its suppose to break down protein in the small intestine separateing nutrients and waste from our food. so If this waste is just stuck in the esophogus for any given time you can imagine the smell. I always feel like something is in my throat when I swallow like a lump and when I eat my food feels like it gets stuck in my esophagus. :?:

Yeah, this something stuck in the throat feeling is quite a common symptom on here. No idea what causes that. Is it the tonsils, tonsil stones, tongue coating, irritation, mucus???

I don't quite understand your point about the food being stuck in the esophagus and how bile would have any connection with why it would be getting stuck or being responsible for making it start to smell. If food were to get stuck somewhere along it's way down to the stomach, then yes it would begin to smell bad quite quickly because of the oral bacteria and mucus mixed in it and the warmth and moisture levels.

Actually, having just posted that and reading it again, I think I understand what u meant. Did you mean that if food was stuck in the esophagus, and if bile was refluxing up from the stomach it would begin breaking down that food?

I just think that if you had any food stuck in the esophagus, it won't require bile refluxing to make it begin to smell bad very quickly. As far as I understand, bile shouldn't normally get into the stomach, but there are problems which can allow it to happen. And if it did, then it could lead to problems which could be far reaching enough to lead to bad breath.

Bile is a greenish-yellow fluid that's essential for digesting fats and for eliminating worn-out red blood cells and certain toxins from your body. It's produced in your liver and stored in your gallbladder in a highly concentrated form.

Eating a meal that contains even a modest amount of fat signals your gallbladder to release bile, which flows through two small tubes (cystic duct and common bile duct) into the upper part of your small intestine (duodenum).

Bile reflux into the stomach
At the same time that bile is entering the duodenum, food enters your small intestine through the pyloric valve, a heavy ring of muscle located at the outlet of your stomach. Ordinarily, the pyloric valve opens just slightly — enough to release about an eighth of an ounce (about 3.5 milliliters) of liquefied food at a time, but not enough to allow digestive juices to backup (reflux) into the stomach. In many cases of bile reflux, the valve doesn't close properly, and bile backwashes into the stomach, where it causes irritation and inflammation (gastritis).

Bile reflux into the esophagus
Bile and stomach acid reflux into the esophagus when another muscular valve, the lower esophageal sphincter, malfunctions. The lower esophageal sphincter separates the esophagus and stomach. Normally, it opens only to allow food to pass into the stomach and then closes tightly. But if the valve relaxes abnormally or weakens, stomach acid and bile can wash back into the esophagus, causing heartburn and ongoing inflammation that may lead to serious complications.
