weird metallic maybe fishy smell

Post by waitingforrelief »

do you guys have any experience with this very strange metallic maybe fishy smell on your breath, which hangs really heavy in the air for a long time, which is usually accompanied by this salty, metallic taste in the mouth?

i'm not sure but i think it's a pretty new odor for me. But it's really bad. Like it spreads really far and hangs really heavy like a cloud.

The only thing that makes me feel more comfortable (i don't know if it relieves it) is to brush with salted water and gargle with it every hour or so. And to abstain from eating.

I haven't had real meals during the day since yesterday. I'm afraid to eat.

So much fear.

I`m not sure but I think I have that breath sometimes. The assistant of my dentist once told me that my bb lingered in their clinic hours after I`ve left so there goes the anaerobic bacteria theory. How can a bacteria survive in the air for so long & reach far distances if it is anaerobic. I also think that starving yourself won`t do you any good. It will make your breath worse.

thanks for the reply jc. i don't know if i'm right but it seems the salted water gargle does help a little. now it's after 11 pm and i'm home alone, so i'm eating my first meal for the day. (had an apple earlier)

actually not eating didn't really make my breath worse. right now, even as i'm eating i can taste the metal coming back. i'm sure i shoudln't do it everyday but since i have a tendency to overeat whenever i do eat - i actually feel better physically eating less and skipping meals the last couple days.

my habit of overeating came very much from the onset of bb. i used to eat all the time, not just to mask it, but to forget about it even when i was alone. i mean i'd overeat like crazy. and esp. with company, i'd just eat really slowly and not stop eating. it's like a security blanket for me to have something in my mouth, i guess.

however, now that my bb is worse and seems to have changed, eating has become even more dangerous, it seems.
*sigh*

i do think that i need to stop overeating from anxiety tho'. i did feel better and even my breath seemed to be better. and really, whether it helps my breath or not, i'm sure i've overtaxed my system BIG TIME from all the major over-eating over the years. (which has already improved significantly over the years)

does anyone have the same problem? I'm wondering if there's a relationship between overeating and bad breath.

I`m not a doctor but based on my experience, bb caused by overeating is probably due to lack of certain enzymes. Each food needs a certain enzyme for it to be broken down & digested. IF you lack these enzymes then the food will decay & produce malodor.

i've tried different kinds of enzymes but they didn't really work for me.

Another probable cause of bb from overeating is that when you eat foods reach in sugar & protein. As we all know these bacterias feed on them.

hmm i don't eat that much sugar either. i've looked into the protein thing, but haven't been able to come to any conclusion... :(

still a mystery to me. to quote another member, sometimes i just feel like i'm damned if i do and damned if i don't. it's a no-win situation.

I`ve also tried countless of things over the years & i FEEL SO TIRED FROM IT ALL. But I feel that with everything that`s happening on this site right now I sincerely believe that it won`t take long before a cure is finally found. We should stay strong until then.

I wonder why everything they say that`s bad for bb are trully bad for bb while all the cure they say don`t work. It really buffles me. I`ve had bb for 13 years.

Yeah over-eating would have been a major problem for me WFR so that's really interesting that we share yet another symptom although I have it more or less under control now in that it would be rare for me to go on a big binge. I think its because Im so aware of it now. I also go through phases of just feeling very hungry all the time regardless of what Ive eaten. That's why Ive stopped doing fasts or fruit only days as I think I need to keep my eating as regular as possible. Irregular eating patterns will disrupt your hormones and that's also something Im trying to balance at the minute. Although I dont feel exhausted all the time JC my energy levels tend to be very low and I think for me that is associated with depression. I wonder how many others here share those type of symptoms.

Im a compulsive eater myself (see my name!) and have the metallic tast sometime, but it doesnt come with the food.
I see that happen mostly when i smoke a lot for days on and my throat starts hurting and my voice goes and i actually think that i smoked so much that my throat is bleeding and hence the metallic taste.

Two years ago i've come accross this: www.patrickholford.com , he says keeping blood sugar balanced is the secret to deal with eating desorders, and his ideas has changed my life for sure.

I've also emailed him about bb and cant remeber very well, but he said that its got something to do with low digestive enzymes and especially low levels of stomack acid and also imbalance between good and bad bacteria etc...
I believe i dont have enough stomack acid cos i love pure vinegar so much, i could drink it all day long!

I wonder if any one here is bulemic?
