does anyone have a chronic low-level sore throat? not like a seriously painful one - it hurts, but more like on a level of just being annoying. and it's not there everyday. but often enough.

i feel it has some connection to my bb. as i've explained in another post, it seems to go away every time i have some relief from bb as well.

chronic sore throat is because pnd irritates your throat. Doc told me that.

mine sometimes feels dry and irritated, as if the opening has tightened. I think I may cause it by 'sucking' in to clear it up, and I do try hard.

I even think water makes it worse.

Yes, i have that.

It started about 10 years ago, thats when i really became concious about bb.

It was bothering me for months and i event went to see an oncologist about it. Later i went to a clinic and had all kinds of blood test and all. At this point i havent mentioned the bb to them, but the clinic said that they have more and more people coming with the same complaint.

But none of them found anything, the oncologist actually gave me antibiotics!

I think it was mostly the foreign body sensation in my throat, and definately the tonsil stones, which at the time i wasnt aware of but years later when i found them hangin on my tonsils and forced them out that sensation went away. And maybe thats when i started to have a coating and that thick layer was giving me the feeling.

How long have you been aware of the coating on your tongue waitingforrelief?

it can even be 'silent reflux', in which you dont feel acid but its there. This can cause a constant lump in your throat making you clear it all the time, dry mouth, sore throat. The only thing really is to take nexium or somac everyday, or elevate your head a few degrees while sleeping.

I had silent reflux cancelled out after manometry and an internal ph test where I had a monitor clipped to my esophagus for 3 days. Results: normal acid levels.

So the doctor labelled the lump in throat to be "hypersensistive throat" and said doctors just don't know how to diagnose this.

One doctor mentioned that a lump in the throat wasn't really a lump at all, but a false sensation, that originates in the stomach.

Most people get that lump feeling before crying...I wonder if it's stress that causes it temporarily.

hmm... i think stress could definitely be a possibility.

but i have a feeling it's bacterial. it happens when my mouth has that awful, dry feeling. sometimes it accompanies that metallic (and maybe it's also a rusty odor as well) taste and smell.

i doubt it's from pnd for me. the pain is like right at the opening of the throat and not where PND would pass thru' further back.

i have not checked on whether i have reflux, but i don't seem to have an excess of stomach acid, and i don't really get heartburn so much anymore. (altho' as a youngster i had major stomach problems, which i believe was very stress-related)
