Zinc lactate for type-1 BB

Post by halitosisux »

There's a toothpaste I've been currently using for around a year now. Oral-B pro-expert. It contains Zinc lactate.

There are probably plenty of other toothpastes and mouthwashes that contain zinc lactate too.

Just out of curiousity, around a month ago, I tried gently scrubbing some of this all over my tongue in the morning and at night. I've been trying to see how effective different products can be at controlling tongue coatings and odour. I sometimes still have a tiny levels of both.

Chlorine dioxide was good, but the effects wear off. Chlorhexidine and hydrogen peroxide, the same thing.

In the past I've used zinc gluconate. Results were good, but often it resulted in a strange sulphurous taste and odour which was almost as unpleasant as the vinegary/shit taste I was trying to replace.

Since I've been using zinc lactate, I've been having zero odour on my tongue 24 hours a day. Tongue coating almost non-existent.

Maybe there are better sources of zinc lactate available.

Someone recently made a thread about some scientific evidence of the effectiveness of the synergistic use of zinc and chlorhexidine gluconate combined. This is seriously worth trying with zinc lactate.

How exciting! I am also very curious about this with zinc. There is a mouthwash containing zinc and chlorexdine. It's called minamint mouthwash. I'll order it as soon as I get my salary.

aww cute pic!

Yes, this toothpaste is widely available here in the UK, and it's got a normal price tag.

Read this:-
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12694427

The good thing about zinc is that the benefits don't wear off - in fact they improve with time. I don't know whether the combined use with chlorhexidine could mess that up though. I would recommend trying zinc by itself first. In that study above they only use it as a mouthwash too. No mention of brushing anything into the tongue - which is vital really if the whole idea is to reach as much of the bacteria in the mouth and tongue as possible.

So has anyone tried this to see whether it works?

For well over a month now I've been scrubbing in the Oral-B toothpaste containing zinc lactate mentioned above, all over my tongue twice a day, and using it as my main toothpaste. I'm not using any kind of mouthwash or breath products or drugs of any kind, except for daily flossing and a Water pik on weekends.

The zinc is not killing bacteria it's simply hindering the ability of the bacteria to produce VSCs. And this is why it doesnt wear off, because it's not altering the bacterial flora and creating the kind of imbalances that take you back to where you started within a few days.

Whether it's normal or not to have slight tongue odour, and whether that can cause bad breath or not, this shit really does do something, and I can't smell a THING when I rub the back of my tongue. I've always suffered with PND because of a deviated septum, and I've always assumed that the remaining slight odour on the back of my tongue is due to that and something I just have to accept.

If you think your BB may relate in some way to the odour on your tongue, for whatever the reason may be, then I urge you to try this.

Don't scrape too hard, just rub gently with a scraper so the zinc reaches into the tongue papillae.

hi halitosisux

can you explain again how you do this.

do you just brush your tongue with this stuff whilst brushing your teeth?

if not, how do you scrub it all over your tongue? with your finger? do you just leave it on your tongue?

Danger, I brush and floss my teeth normally and then with the toothpaste that remains in my mouth I use a tongue scraper to gently massage that into the whole surface of my tongue.

With the waterpik I just use warm tap water.

I made the tongue scraper myself from an old teaspoon. I cut the end of the handle off and bent a small lip at the end at a right angle to the handle. The length of the lip is about 5mm. I hardly get any gagging with this because it's such a small profile and I can very precisely direct where I want to scrape and the pressure I want to apply, and avoid the areas of my throat that trigger gagging.

I spend about 2 minutes doing the scraping. The zinc only has to get into the areas and come into contact with the bacteria. There is no need to leave it standing.

I've just got home from work and I just washed my hands and pushed my finger right to the far back and I cant smell a thing when I go to sniff it. Even before I repeat this before going to bed, I can't smell anything.

I think that if this was going to wear off it would have done so by now - but it's been working for about 6 weeks now at least.

If you try this and it works, but you later find that the improvement wears off, you could try the same thing with chlorhexidine 15 minutes or so before using the zinc. This not only helps to prevent chlorhexidine tooth staining, but also it apparently increases the effectiveness of chlorhexidine if you don't brush your teeth for 15 mins after using it.

Yes, it's sold in all the big supermarkets.
There's different varieties, some for whitening, some for sensitive teeth, etc etc. Just get the cheapest one and check the ingredients to ensure it contains zinc lactate. I think they all do, but just make sure.

Good luck!

Try SmartMouth mouthwash

Post by pagmic2 »

Try SmartMouth mouthwash. It's a huge answer to prayer, exterminating the bacteria in my mouth for way over 12 hours, and no morning breath for the first time ever since probably 5th grade! It's zinc levels are way higher than other products. In Christ, Mike

Hali,

It totally depends whether your tongue is the only source of odour.

The bad taste is probably due to the effects of the antibacterials contained in the toothpaste. Try to limit the time the toothpaste remains on your tongue, and rinse it all away with water as soon as possible after you've rubbed it all around your tongue.

If you're using any other mouthwashes or tongue scraping too hard, this will have a detrimental effect on everything in the long run.

Don't worry too much about bad tastes. The important thing is whether you're able to reduce or eliminate any odours that normally build up.

FYI, it's still effectively keeping my tongue completely odour-free and my tongue pink.

Hali,

My main trouble, and what really affects me is my bad taste and my white coat.... I remain desperate when I got the ``Bad acidic taste``, I feel that everybody is smelling a horrible BB, but I really dont know if they are smelling something or how much strong is the odor... I stay VERY anxious with this situation, and it is making my life very annoying.
When you say to do not worry about the bad taste its intrigues me, because I have a strong sensation that the bad taste, and the level of it (BT) is 100% correlates to have BB and the level of BB.....

I tried rubbing the toothpaste into my tongue, in circles, as you said in another thread, but it didn't seem to do anything.

Must be your toothpaste.

Not that I've ever considered my tongue to itself, be at all smelly, but it does commonly get white, and not often, can become quite pink.

Mike, I always assumed from your descriptions that you had Type-1 BB with tongue odour.

kart, if you've managed to get rid of your tongue odour, that could be very significant.

If it's possible, you should try to get someone you trust to test your breath.
Or you could go to have your breath gases analysed, both with and without tongue odour and see what happens.
