If you can reach your thumbs down along the sides of your throat far enough, you realize that there are folds that go way down, like the sides of the throat are an accordion. Mucous, bacteria, and food residues builds up and form a plaque coating (you can see a whitish film up as high as where the tonsils are, or if your tonsils have been removed, the white film is in the area the tonsils used to be). Clean the right side of the throat with the right thumb (turned upwards), and the left with the left. Go down as far as you can and gently scrape upwards till you've cleaned it all out. Maybe this plaque doesn't build up unless you have post nasal drip, and maybe it still doesn't build up if the salvia flow is high enough or the salivary enzymes and immunoglobulins are normal.
