rotten egg smell in hot water

Did you guys know that anaerobic bacteria can build up in your water heater? I noticed a rotten egg smell in my water for the first time. So I've googled what the problem was and it seems that the water tank can build up bacteria when the water is in contact with an aluminum or metal anode inside the water tank. The bacteria is not harmful. The only thing is the smell is very offensive even if the bacteria is in low concentration. Maybe this same bacteria is in our system. Therefore, we should probably not drink tap water or brush with tap water.

I think that's a very good idea. Tap water is all kinds of gross anyway and in most cities (US) it has lots of chlorine which can't be good for you.
