Totally depends where the stench is being produced.
Stench can be produced directly by the bacteria on the tongue, or it can find it's way into the mouth and onto the tongue from bacteria elsewhere in the body - i.e. via the bloodstream from the gut, where it then gets secreted in saliva and mucus.
If there was a simple way to find out, it would be half the problem solved.

If you are not already doing so, make sure you are looking after your digestive system in every possible way. And don't just brush your tongue. You need to find the things that help the most. Mouthwashes that contain Zinc, hydro-flossing, Chlorine dioxide, Chlorhexidine if you can get any.
