I had not been to a dentist in 6 years. My mouth was full of cavities and gum infections. In fact, the decay on one of the first molars was so bad, food would get caught between the tooth and under the gums. The only way to dislodge it was by chewing gum (somehow pulled it out) and it smelled like crap (literally). Not to mention, the root canal and gums were infected.
20 days ago I got the root canal done, and immediately noticed improvements in my oral hygiene. Well, I actually cannot tell if it is also due to probiotics as I started taking an effective one 2 weeks before. Antibiotics have a similar effect. In any case, my tonsils looked significantly more normal. Usually they were red. They had likely been infected for years without knowing, before my ENT recently informed me.
Anyway, fast forward to last week. I got all 4 Wisdom Teeth removed. They are so badly filled with cavities that the top and sides of every tooth is black with REAL holes. Not just tiny decay, but complete holes where bacteria broke through. I will hopefully remember to post pictures here (kept the teeth), but I am not home at the moment.
I still have some minor cavities. Probably 1 or 2. I do not think it is a major issue compared to the Wisdoms. I forgot to mention something - bacteria would get stuck under the gum flaps and smell fecal. I would occasionally get painful infections. The surgeon told me the gums were all infected.
With all of this said, my bb is still present despite good oral hygiene. I do believe it has improved a bit from before, but definitely not gone. Before, I simply could not cover my bad breath, even for 5 minutes. Now, with optimal hygiene I can do so for about 20 minutes.
I get tonsil stones and have not been able to remove them since the Wisdom extraction. As mentioned, my tonsils were severely infected for 5+ years. However, they now look normal. They look WAY healthier (no longer red and hard, but light pink and soft).
I have a tonsillectomy coming up on the 26th (3 days). Hopefully everything works out. I have a feeling it will improve my bb further given that 6 months after first developing bad breath I coughed up my first tonsil stone. It seems to be the main source of the smell.
When it first started I could pick the stones out and brush, etc. and be social. However, over the past years it has got progressively worse. This is most likely due to the poor oral hygiene habits I have developed from the lack of an ability to have a social life, coupled with progressive tooth decay (6+ cavities, 1 Root Canal, 4 Rotten Wisdom teeth & infected gums).
I intend to ask to keep the tonsils or at least take photos of them and post here for the benefit of anyone who they might be of use to.
I also suffer from TMAU, however have found a real, working remedy to stop the smell (now very rarely occurs). If you are interested, feel free to PM me or comment here.
Well, that about covers it. Let me know if you have questions. Intend to update this thread post-tonsillectomy. Have a great day!

Can you share the TMAU solution? Since you have so many possible causes, how do you know the TMAU solution is effective? Do you have nasal bad breath? Good luck for the tonsillectomy!

It may seem like a weird combination, but it works.
It takes about 1 week to get in your system.
If you don't take it for 2 days, it stops working.
I found this method by Googling "TMAU Cure". It is the first result. I had no expectations, but sure enough the body odor miraculously disappears.

Hey Attraction,
its nice to see that you are going through with your tonsillectomy, I definitely recommend you buy honey to soothe the throat and I also recommend you be in the vicinity of a humidifier as much as you can to keep your throat from drying out. Keep us updated on your surgery and I hope this is your cure for your bad breath and/or tonsil stones. Good luck my friend.

Thank you for your reply. It is currently day 8 post-surgery. Throat still painful (every day has been pretty much the same level of pain). It is bad, but less severe than I thought it would be. Reminds me exactly of canker sores, which I got throughout my life. Anyway, there is bad breath but it will be hard to know for sure if it is better until they are fully healed so at least 1 more week.Life_Goes_On wrote:Hey Attraction,

In my opinion you should wait a full month before you make a determination because you may still have gooey stuff and blood in your throat after two weeks of surgery and even people that don't have bad breath prior to surgery can experience bad breath for at least the first three weeks of post-surgery.Attraction wrote:
