I've been a mouth-breather for most of my life due irritable sinuses/rhinitis. I've used all kinds of medications but they didn't help. I'm in my mid 20's and even though I completely stopped all medications the rhinitis cured spontaneously. Funnily enough my uncle had asthma no one could help too and it went away spontaneously too. Doctors said it could be a syndrome that's not known yet (very rare and genetically inheritable).
Anyway, that sinus problem is 100% fixed now, I breathe only through my nose, but my tongue has these enlarged and white papillae that are causing bb. The 'round' ones are completely normal, the ones that are white are the hair-like ones, especially in the back of my tongue they're numerous, long and you can clearly see it's white (it's not yellowish/grayish/pinkish, it's bright pure white, very evident). On the front they're shorter but they're white too. It's not candida/thrush. I can't scrape it off and dentists and physicians don't know what could be done except better oral hygiene, but I've been brushing my tongue more than ten times a day.
When I wash my mouth with hydrogen peroxide the bb gets a bit better. I've taken probiotics and I'm going to buy more just in case, although I don't think that's gonna make a difference. I'm going to see an ear nose and throat doctor in a few weeks, but honestly I don't expect a solution because so far it's always the same thing, they either think it's thrush what I assure you it's not, or just dismiss it with a 'practice better oral hygiene' note, what's insulting. I've tried everything you can imagine even brushing with baking soda until it bleeds but there's no way to get rid of it. Even Tazorac which was recommended in another forum.
The theory is that the hairy papillae got 'closed' from the years of mouth breathing and have debris stuck in them thus the white color, but I'm not 100% convinced it's that, it seems to me the papillae themselves are white or something, but that was dismissed by the doctors with the argument that if their ends were 'dead tissue' they wouldn't hold in place.
I'm quite sad with this situation, I don't know how to explain it better, and I think I have an extremely rare condition because I literally spent all the money I had going from one specialist to another and it's always the same thing, since it's a 'benign condition', I should just practice good hygiene and try to mask the bad breath. I want to try to get rid of it though... I'm really disappointed with the doctors so far because obviously the bad odor has an origin, either bacteria trapped in the papillae or whatever origin it has. It's a simple cause-effect thing, I'd like to know exactly what's the cause and get rid of it. My saliva and nasal mucus don't smell and I had endoscopy recently and my tonsils are clean, these facts along with the symptoms allow me to conclude with substantial certainty that the cause is the abnormal papillae, which is the only abnormal thing I have, and the bad odor is probably some kinda gas that's being released by them, I just don't know if it's bacteria trapped there that's releasing it, or I don't know... maybe the papillae developed some protection mechanism from the mouth breathing times that smells bad or something. I'm no doctor though so maybe that's not a possibility. If it's microorganisms, they're not ordinary and they're persistent as hell. Maybe some viral infection or something...
There's another point which is aesthetically my tongue looks really bad. In the front it's quite OK although you can see the discoloration, but in the back it looks really bad. When I eat anything that has colorant my tongue will easily tint, even mouth washers will dye my tongue as if I had eaten a pack of kool-aid.
So, since this forum has lots of people who have been fighting bb and somewhat similar tongue conditions, I humbly ask you guys, what do you think I could try? What are you guys using to try and fight bb off when it's caused by tongue conditions like that? I'd really like some recommendations on stuff to try, I feel very bad with this bb and bad looking tongue, I just want to live a little, I don't want to turn 30 never being in a relationship and subsequently turn into an old bearded mad hoarder
