tonsillectomy
I've read a couple of other people that have gotten the procedure done and there are mixed reviews on it but I am still deciding to get a tonsillectomy done. I have visited a doctor a month ago and have another visit with him on wednesday. I asked him about tonsillectomy and he said he would do it he just wants to check out my throat for improvement first. When I went for the first visit with my ent he didn't show even the slightest signs that I had bb. To be honest I have no clue wether I have bb or not. From the reactions I get from people it would leave me to believe that I don't have bb anymore but you can never be sure we all know that. I know that I get many tonsil stones and my tonsils themselves smell really bad exactly like shit. Also people say that you can not smell the tonsil stones unless you break them open but not in my case. They are so strong that I can smell them through my own nose when they are coming out of the hole. I would have gotten the laser treatment but can't find anyone in my area that does it so I am opting for the whole shabang with the tonsillectomy. Like I said before though I honestly have no clue wether I have bb or not but I do know at one point I did have very offensive bb. Most people use to say it smelled like shit so when I smell the stones and tonsil area I'm guessing it smells like that.
I jsut wanted to add this for those that think the tonsils may be their problem. I couldnt sleep and was reading the heathboards about ent problems and came across this lady.
Hi everyone, I used to get those awful disgusting things as well and my breath would be horrible !!!! So bad, I couldn't even stand it - it drove me crazy for YEARS (I'm now 35 and I would say it bothered me for almost 10 yrs) - I was also getting infections so I got my tonsils removed last Wednedsay Dec.16th - it has been a VERY painful recovery, but I know that after 2 - 3 wks I'll be 100% and the years of people backing up when I talk to them will be over. I'll keep you posted and let you know if the bad breath is gone once I recover. As crazy as it sounds - I had a huge gross tonsil stone stuck in my left tonsil that I couldn't get out before I went into surgery and of course I had bad breath - after the surgery - the odour was gone. (mind you it is back again simply because of the healing process) but, like I said, I will you keep you posted and in the meantime if anyone has any questions, let me know.
Then she wrote back a while later with this...
Well, I promised to keep you posted and the results are AMAZING the bad breath is GONE !!!!! I'm now 5 wks post op and I feel great ! No sore throat, no bad breath - my confidence level has increased considerably, I was always worried people were being grossed out by my breath and now I know it is no longer there and they have no reason to take a few steps back when I talk to them !!!! The surgery is 100% worth it for that reason alone !

One more small piece from something someone else wrote and then I'm off to bed. This isn't the same lady as in the first post i did, another person. I only took a little bit from what she wrote because it was long.
I went back to work on the 21st and I feel really great. I am so extremely pleased with the results already. I used to have a constant nagging on my left tonsil, I was often running low grade fevers, I had tonsil stones like crazy dispite gargling 3-4 times a day and using tongue scraper, etc...and bad breath. Now, I never have bad breath at all and I just feel so much better. It is awesome.

I had avoided getting my tonsils removed because all I heard was that it doesnt cure bad breath. I only get tonsil stones very rarely and they only smell when I squish them with my fingers. I know people who get them and they dont have bb.
My bb situation is fortunately managable with breezecare's probiotic system. But even still, i get days when the system doesnt hold up and it only lasts about 7 or 8 hours before my breath turns bad anyway.
I think I may request a tonsillectomy, nothing to lose hey?

Yes you are very right there are people who have tonsil stones but no bb. I guess it has to do with how bad your tonsils are and how strong the smell is coming from them. I have found so many people on the healthboards that have found relief from BB by removing their tonsils. I read somewhere that tonsils are only the cause of BB in 6% of cases so I'm sure like everything else its not guarenteed, but going to a good ENT and having him/her take a good look at your tonsils wouldn't hurt.
More healthboard talk. You guys should go to the healthboards and look up tonsil stones. You will find one after another story like these that I've posted. See if your symptoms fit in with theirs. (i wonder if anyone actually reads all if this.) I tend to get a little zealous and overdo it at times.
Hi there - I suffered from extremely bad breath for years before I realised Tonsil Stones were the cause. One day upon looking into my throat with a torch I saw my tonsils were riddled with these things. Occasionally one would come out and upon examination I discovered it smelt putrid- thus the bad breath (sorry for all the gross details, but it is true! LOL!). I had a tonsillectomy which although horridly painful, cured the problem and now I have sweet breath!
Purple - I really feel for you right now. I remember having my tonsils out at 24 and it was so painful and remained so for over three weeks. With regards to the bad breath, as I said in an earlier post, mine was putrid as well for years. No matter how much I brushed, flossed or gargled it remained the same. I found it also very antisocial - I can remember people moving back from me when I spoke to them (embarassing). The tonsillectomy has been a complete cure - I no longer stand talking to someone with my hand over my mouth from self consciousness. Keep up with your meds for the pain. I remember I was given Tylenol, as well as Tamazepam (sedative) which I refused to take - I wish I had now it would have enabled me to keep some rest. One other thing too, stay clear of pureed baked beans or spaghetti in your recovery - my well-meaning mother in law made some for me and it burned my throat like blazers! LOL.
Take care.
