Bad Breath Halitosis. Is a great website and I give you a warm welcome.
SO WELCOME TO BAD BREATH HALITOSIS.

Now most of us have halitosis (Chronic Problem), although some have a acute problem.

Life is a very tough, bad breath makes it worse. Alot of us have discovered bad breath and then faced the harsh reality, that is bad breath. At first you think brush your teeth, mouthwash, floss, less fizzy and voila. Then eventually you realise that it's not so simple. You try almost everything to come to terms with your condition. Unfortunatley your efforts are in vain and your left in an emotional wreck.

Now some of you maybe wondering, is there a cure. The answer is yes. .

However there is no magic cure. Each person has a different cause and each person has a different cure.

I will return to the topic of cures later. Firstly I would like to move on to causes of bad breath. Also a brief description on it and my personal experience.

FACTUAL Causes. (FACTS)

-Dry mouth, inufficient saliva flow. This is a problem dry mouth is a major contributer to bad breath. Almost everyone has bad breath in the morning which proofs that bad breath will arise if this is the case during the day.

-PND, well what i think is a "contributer" is bassiccaly acsess mucus, this is is when your nose secretes excess mucus which drops down to the lower back of your toungue. Harmful bacteria feed of the mucus and create sulpher compounds which have a bad odour.

-Lactose Intolerence, The lack of "lactose" enzymes to digest lactose, which is a sugar found in milk.

-Bad Hygiene, this is obvious.

-White coated tongue, a possible link to other cuases. White toungue may not be a direct cause, but is often a symptom and a contributer which multiplies the effects of bad breath. However it is rarely the primary cause, if this is the case you have a minor problem.

-Acid Reflux, often heartburn is a symptom. Got to get it checked.

-Gum Disease, self explanatory.

-Candida, A fungus infection.

OTHER CUASED. (NOT CERTAIN, NO PROOF)

-Toxic body, cured by doing body flushes.

-Stress, Many of us encounter this in our lives and we think its a contributor. I am almost fixated on this being a major contributer because it directly links to dry mouth, which is linked to bad breath. Saliva production is controlled by emotions and nerves. Thefore I think stress and nerves contribute to bad breath.

Possible CURES.

This is the part your waiting for, eh?

Bassiccaly many people have come up with some crazy things, in the past. Only a few of them help. None really are the "cure"

Tonsillectomy

How to check if your tonsils are emmitting an odour. Get your finger and rub your tonsils, then smell it. If it smells like **** then you know that tonsils are having an effect on your breath.

You can choose tonsillectomy, however most of us have performed this operation in vain. However some cures have come out of it. Usually the tonsils smell because of another cause/factor which results in bad breath. However if they do smell and your willing to do the surgery then go for it.Although the price is very High.Make sure your tonsils are THE PROBLEM before you go ahead with it.

Diet Change..

Personally this is one of the more effective ways of curing bad breath, unfortunately it's the most difficult. Some are fixated this is the cure, alot of people have said that this cured them until they could not take the pain of not being able to eat foods they want to eat.

So what do you have to do? You maybe thinking?

Well you will have to cut down extremely Foods HIGH in Protien and choline. This will starve the Bad Breath bacteria as they live on protien, like we live on food. Makes complete sense, right? :)

Diet Change is the best cure but its too frekin hard to control

Probiotics.

Probiotics are found in yogurt and basically are good bacteria. You may have seen these bacteria advertised on TV, claiming inproved digestion. However these bacteria also aid in fighting bad breath.

This has been used the most from all users... Simply because of it's effectiveness for improving bad breath and ease of use.

Bassiccally the logic behind this is if we plunge in a million bacteria against the bad bacteria they will fight

I personally have bioyogurt, (UK) but some American/ International users praise DanActive Light for it's effectiveness. This will not cure bad breath but you will definatly see massive improvements after a give time. Make sure you have alot though and daily.

Nasal Irragation

This is a great way to flush away that mucus \:D/

This will help incredibly if you suffer from post nasal drip.

Process..

1)Fill up 500 ml of LukeWarm Water.
2)Put 1 Teaspoon into the water.
3)Make sure its has a nozzle end. Then pour into nose, your head should be looking at 90 Degrees, do this for both nostrils. Some people prefer the use squeeze bottles instead.

Make sure you dry your nose properly after performing nasal irrigation. This site will help you do just that;http://jalanetipot.com/how_drying.html , make sure you follow these steps.

The Tung Brush

Tongue, Tung, Thung,

The TungBrush, is every effective tounge cleaner and is by far the most effective of them all. Do not use scrapers as they are harsher on your toungue. The TungBrush is very effective at cleaning your tounge and has become a very useful tool for many BBH members.

This handy tool is easy to find in the US. Unfortunatley you will have to purchase this online for UK (Google it.)

Vitiman c

This little vitaman will kill bad breath in high doses. Although many have reported the effect to have run out, it must be sugarless to be effective. Some people have found the cure using the combo. Vit C + Yogurt + TungBrush. The user was noptical.

We have been told by many members that they have recieved the best effect from "GNC sugarless chewable Vit C cherry flavored"

Wisdom tooth extraction

The wisdom tooth, a sign of wisdom.

It's also a sign of bad breath. A few people on this board have been cured from wisdom tooth extraction. It's definatly a possible cure. However the same rules apply for wisdom tooth extraction and tonsillectomy. Make sure that it is the problem before you go ahead with the operation. This is because they are both surgical procedures which is always a risk.

Things you should be tested for;

-H.Pylori-Helicobacter pylori, bacteria found in the stomach.
-TMAU- Which smells like fish and is secreted from your body and breath
- Acid Reflux

Now Remember!!!!

MOUTHWASHES ARE HARMFUL CHEMICHALS.

THEY DONT WORK!

You MAY try therabreath, dently PH, and more. but trust me it wont help...

I am relitavley new so.. if anyone thinks of anything to add PM me.

Forget about finding the cure for a second. This site is more than that. It's like a therapy centre. We come here vent, share love and talk about our days. It's a tool which aids you in your bad breath. Just like a pen aids you in writing. Many of us have grown an attatchment to this site and it's content. I have made good friends from this site and have learnt alot. Hopefully you can to. So I urge you to;

A minimal detail: Instead of 1/2 teaspoon, I think the wash for pnd rinse should be 500 ml water to 1 teaspoon salt (5ml) ... making it a ~1% mix, which is pretty close to the body's own mix (which is 0.9%).

thanks One day for recap all this info, I think you should post it like an article instead of a topic, so it won´t lost inside the forum...., or maybe jimmi could find a special place on the front page for this....

-I would add, that some people (including me) has experienced improvements from tonsillecthomy, regular or laser (if you have tonsil stones)

Oh, and about the Vit C, is important to remark that they should be Sugarless, and at the moment of the test, the best results were using GNC sugarless chewable Vit C cherry flavored

OneDay, what is the difference in terms of effect on bb b/w ascorbic acid and calcium ascorbate (or any acid-free vit.c)? I tried the many different brands of sugar-free ascorbic acid chewable- 5 minutes in my mouth and I couldn't get anyone to go near me. Could be that I suffered from severe gastric ulcer 8 years ago.

As of Tung brush. For sometime now, I have been thinking whether to order it or K12 online and finally settled for Tung. Hope it works.

This is exactly what I was looking for, I feel I need to go all over the forum to find several things to try. I suffer from pnd and using medicated nasal spray but still have bb I will try the vita c and the yogurt. QUESTIONS How often do I do this in a day?, What is choline and which foods have it?, what are the signs of candida?

Will I get same results by brushing tongue with toothbrush or the the tongue scraper my dentists gave me?

hey halihope,

welcome first of all. The best thing to do is go on the vitamin c thread, uignore some of the comments from people who did not benefet from it. I purchase mine at gnc sugarless cherry flavored. You also get the tung brush upon awakening and after meals you brush your toungue drink a glass of water and then slowely suck on 1-2 vit.c tablets allowing it to disolve in your tongue. make sure you drink 8 glasses a water a day as well. Good luck and if this does not work for you, hang in there something eventually will!

This thread is great. People need to realize the the cure will not come in a $100 "magic tablet".

I wasn't able to find sugar-free vit C at the GNC's around here. Maybe I'll purchase some online. I tried another brand and it worked ok.

Also I have not yet tried the yogurt. I'm lactose intolerant, so I'm not sure how that'll work.

Not only am I lactose intolerant, but I also have PND so I do the sinus rinses. My problem is that I only do the sinus rinses when my allergies act up. I'm going to start doing them twice per day, every day.

Heh, I remember coming to this site over a year ago.. I thought I could solve the problem if I just found the solution.

Little did I know, it's an unending struggle with almost no hope in sight.

This is a really good 'starter's guide' and effectively combines months of our theories and personal research.

Smart Idea Oneday!

Something I became obsessed with, and probably wasn't healthy for me, was trying to cut out food that a lot of people believe to be bad for your breath. Dairy, Eggs, meats.. etc..

I went months and months virtually eliminating these things from my diet, and I think it hurt me more than it helped me. Presently, I eat mostly whatever I want, and since I'm into weight training, I'm all about protein ;)

To my surprise, all this protein consumption doesn't seem to effect my breath much at all. I actually feel more positive about it since I started eating a more balanced diet.

Right now I'm currently toying with an anti-candida diet, but it's very difficult to sustain, so my efforts could be better, yet.

I also believe stress is a huge contributor to messing up your body.. It's difficult sometimes, but keep a smile in your head and think of how a content state of mind can be a healing tool.
