when u smell plaque

when you smell plaque on your teeth or between your back molars does that mean anything except the fact that you need a cleaning?
and if the wisdom teeth and 2nd molar are so close its hard to get it there...should i tell my hgyienist to make sure she gets into that spot between the molars?
oh yea...after a dental cleaning...i shouldn't smell anymore plaque right?

Hi Daisylady,
By "smelling plaque" im assuming you are referring to trapped debris between teeth that flossing pulls out?
I dont think there's anything abnormal about randomly finding this stuff or between certain teeth that easily trap food debris. Even people who dont have BB get this too.
Its gums which form anaerobic colonies of bacteria which then produce a putrified discharge which could cause problems. Also where calcified plaque (tartar) slowly works its way down into the gum, effectively breaking the gum "seal" allowing infection and disease to take hold which is really common and a major cause of BB.

Floss carefully after every meal, watch the red meat, watch fibrous foods like oranges that get stuck, watch the alcohol, and I think... I THINK you can control this.
