Going on a date now that I'm bb free. But GAH my nerves!!

Post by TiredofThis »

So, I've been bb free for a few months now and have just gotten asked out on my first date in about 8 years. i'm a little nervous, considering i haven't had a boyfriend since I was about 16 and I am SO inexperienced in every aspect of a relationship. This is also my best friend's boyfriend's best friend...so I'm afraid of things getting around to my friend and her boyfriend blah blah blah. And let's just say my best friend is very fast...and i hope this guy doesn't expect me to be fast as well because I'm not. And that is why I shy away from being set up by friends. She's already suggesting vacations, etc.

But anyway, to my real dilemma. It's SO hard to feel like i don't have bb, I feel like I have to be so guarded on this date. We're doubling, going out to dinner...but i just can't fathom being comfortable on the date just because I barely know the guy, but also because I still feel like i'm going to offend! i think my issue is more halitiphobia than anything now. it's so hard to realize you don't smell anymore since you've dealt with it your whole life. And obviously I wasn't smelling because he really likes me and asked me out. He's a very blunt guy, he'd have told me if I wasn't smelling so fresh. But do you guys know what i mean about being so self conscious?

Ugh, I just need someone to calm my nerves.

Sounds kind of like the ugly duckling syndrome when a person has such low confidence growing up, then they turn really hot and stay humble. I think it will take time to reprogram your brain and to rebuild confidence again.

I hope I have your same dilemma soon.

Have fun!

Well, if he is a cool guy, then you will be so into him you probably wont be thinking about it. Ive been on dates with girls that chew gum constantly, I dont care if they have bad breath or not. If I really like a girl, then it doesn't matter at all.

But look at it this way. Either you could build up some insecurities before the date, or not. The choice is yours right now. I suggest that you might as well not think about it, and switch to some positive and happy thoughts.

Im sure everything will be fine.

Thanks for all the helpful advice, everybody. I went on my date last night and it went well. We all went out to dinner, and even while eating...no comments. I even asked my best friend who I NEVER talk to about my breath, if my breath smelled and she said "Nope, it smells minty." I had a half piece of gum in my mouth but us BB sufferers know that a little tiny piece of gum is not going to help a mouth full of stank. So I'm thinking it's pretty safe to say that I definitely no longer have bb.

I don't think I'll pursue another date with this guy, he's not really my type and there is ZERO attraction there, but it was nice to actually go out and not have to sit there like a complete waste of life, not beig able to open my mouth and have fun.

And to those who posted, I wish you the absolute best. Thank you :D
