Does this mean you can do the lick test and smell nothing and still have bad breath? That's one thing i was always curious to know, the accuracy of this lick test.Bluerain wrote:For a while I thought colgate total cured me. I tried the lick test after brushing with it and there wasn't a smell. I even had the nerve to talk and laugh directly at my friends but soon found out it didn't work from their reactoins.
Drinking tons and tons of water, gargling or rinsing with water every once in a while, constantly chewing gum, and coughing up post nasal drip helps me lessen the smell.

Crespo...,
Absolutely. You can lick as hard as you want, no odor, your breath can be really bad. Most of the odor originates at the POSTERIOR section of your tongue, the very far back where saliva is low. The front portion of your tongue is constantly being brushed on by the pilate/roof of the mouth so it acts like a cleaning surface. The licking test is not 100% reliable, or 50% for that matter. Many times I thought my breath must be good, after brushing with TUNG brush, drank a gallon of water, tongue clean and pink, as soon as I open my mouth the other person on the receiving end stepped way back. Maybe the other person just needed personal space, but more likely it was the breath.
Hope that helps. When you are ready you should talk with a trusted friend to help you by smelling your breath and having her/him give you a rating 1 to 5 to see how bad your breath. I know that's asking a lot, but it really will help you to have definative answer instead of guessing only to be wrong.

It sucks not being able to know by yourself how your breath really is. Because i noticed i had bad breath when i was making out with this girl, and after some neck kissing i noticed "what the ***k is that smell??" Needless to say it was from my saliva on her neck... now i do the lick test and i dont have a problem, this after taking some medicines for my allergies and rinitis. I can ask my parents but i think they are so fed up with this story that they just tell me anything so i dont keep talking about it.
