** my situation right now is as follows. some odor mostly nasal based. lots of mucus in the back of my throat. maybe partly from GERD, but i think mostly from a sinus post-nasal drip. when i gargle with salt water and get all that mucus out of the back of my throat or scrape my tongue and remove the mucus sitting there i can smell the rotten egg / light fecal-like smell. it gets stronger the longer i'm somewhere, i can often smell / taste it myself. mother can smell it off discharge but not directly when i breath. basically everyone else can smell it directly. no more tonsils, so i think the odor was just getting trapped and accumulated on the tonsils, not originating there.

i saw an ENT today who noticed smell, i had never been to the ENT before, he assumed that it must have been a severe sinus infection, because mucus should normally by itself not smell. i was also planning to go to the dentist to check gums and crowns and whatnot, but the problem is clearly mostly from the back of my throat and coming out through my nose. i was given a powerful antibotic co-amoxilitian or something like that 875 mg..... BUT i read about this case today. (actually i read about it a while ago and ignored it)

Odor mystery.. i used to have very bad breath that others would comment on and at times I think I could even smell it myself (along with bad body odour which seems to be worst when I eat meat.. umm but that dont seem to be as bad of late).

I had staph in my nose (25% of people carry staph in their noses..some staph produce toxins).. and since I've had that treated with antibiotics.. as far as I know.. my breath isnt bad anymore (well I've had no one comment on it since before then and I myself havent been noticing it so much).

I dont know if that is a coincidence or not.. but maybe a nasal swab for staph would be a good idea.

First of all IF you are in the 25% of people who carrry a type of Staphylococcus in nose.. it would all depend on the individual Staph infection.

A doctor really cant just prescribe an antibiotic and hope for the best as even with the correct antibiotic... Staph can be hard to get rid of and will often come back, doctors couldnt guarentee they could get rid of it. (Hence I not only took the right antibiotic but also at the same time took strong doses of good quality "olive leaf extract" as well which is a natural antibiotic to make sure I had success at getting rid of it).

They can test to see what antibiotics it is resistant too and that is the way to go with this..
eg The staph in my case on testing, tested resistant to penicillin, Flucloxacillin, Amozycillin, Amox/Clav, Cep/loth/lex/zol ..
The only antibiotics it wasnt resistant too were Vancomycin (given IV), clindamycin, Eryth/Roxith. As I also was found to have Strep B as well.. I ended up taking Erythromycin (Eryth) to get rid of both in one shot. (Retesting after showed that these things were gone).

Anyway.. it would need to be tested to see what to be used.


sooo i told my dad I wanted to get a nasal swab and see my regular ENT BEFORE i took the antibotics (since staph is resistant to this antibotic and ive already been on this one with no result before). i have sinus infection like symptoms, so it might just be a bad one... but it would be good to get all the cultures and everything done.

I HAVE to go back to school in 2 weeks or else I'll lose my insurance. 12 days actually.. so i'm in a race against the clock. if not improved, i need to get diagonised and start a treatment by then.

My odor has improved since all my surgeries. or at least i think so. it use to be stronger, straight fecal (diaharrea like or anal-ey), now it's a milder rotten egg in my estimation, but still offensive.

2nd opinion = there isn't any real infection or discharge to test at the moment. not taking the antibotics. going to use a nasal steroid along with more saline rinses... not many reactions today, but I did scrape tongue, throughly brush and stuff before i went, drank some water, didn't eat and I wasn't in same room for more than 10 minutes, but seems like there's been an improvement since all my surgeries. yesterday though i had plenty of elevator reactions and i didn't eat before i went either.

two ENTs couldn't detect odor and I believe them.

still lots o' mucus in my throat. i think i get the odor right after i eat nowadays, which could be from VSC's feeding off the food and mucus or it could be related to reflux or it could be some (for now) intractable MBO. i'll try to brave it and venture out more and see what happens. taking a subway a big city isn't a bad way... if today was a good indication maybe i have a minimum way to keep the odor away for just classes and whatnot. i wish i had some good feedback. parents can't really notice. brother has some comments, not lately, but i think he has his own breath problems (possibly tonsil / gum related, not very "revolting").

i still have to go to dentist at some point. school in a week and a half.

ALSO, this might be unrelated but i'm taking DEVROM to reduce my IBS flatuence odor and it seems to have taken it down to a slight rotten milk smell, which isn't nearly as offensive.

For those they haven't been following my progress I had very severe confirmed breath, but one that parents never noticed, most doctors didn't but friends and others confirmed. I had infected tonsils taken out and a sinus blockage cleaned and washed and a deviated septum corrected. Apparently this lead to an improvement, but I still have some reactions. TMAU urine negative, might do a blood-test to be sure. I'll see if I can get some good feedback in the next week or so from some old friends that knew about it b4.

same problem im having this mucus and shit smell
