food without choline
I am interested to test a diet with less choline. I was great to see many of you talking about food that affect our BB. After testing many products without success, I am believing that some food really affect me. Does anyone have try a diet with less choline?
I did. Thats how I tested myself for TMAU. My tongue got clean with a low choline diete, my breath somewhat better(far from good, but I did it only a short time, so there is hope). I wasnt sure yet if I got TMAU, so I made the oposite and ate intentionaly high choline food - eggs(choline) and spinach(betaine) - which should made me smell strong. And...I fillled rooms with my smell. I got reactions from people meters away from me. Got to find a testlab now...
You should join the health group for trimethylaminuria at yahoo, there are all the people tested positive for TMAU and they got many recipes and other helpful stuff there and download the USDA database for the choline content of common foods.
I want to add that I got halitosis only, onlu sometimes maybe smell from my feet, thats what some people told me, but else no real fishy odour or something. And that Im actualy happy I finally know the reason for my lifelong suffering...

So that means anyone can get TMAU-like odor symptoms if the Choline intake is more than normal, even if they don't have TMAU?KL wrote:Is it Possible to Get Too Much Choline?
Actually, yes. The Tolerable Upper Intake level for adults has been set at 3.5 grams (3500 mg) per day. Above this, adverse effects can include low blood pressure, diarrhea, and fishy body odor.

Sure, if you suspect TMAU then take some 550-1000 mg choline only...That is already to much for a TMAU affected liver. Remember, this is just a simple test guys, just so you see if there is a change and if your halitosis gets stronger.noptical wrote:So that means anyone can get TMAU-like odor symptoms if the Choline intake is more than normal, even if they don't have TMAU?KL wrote:Is it Possible to Get Too Much Choline?

Another thing I remember, I ate sauerkraut and chineese cabbage, both low choline and betaine food, but still my breath got worse - now I know that both block the FMO3 encyme and increase the symptome - bad breath. You can find more on the tMAU support group.

Does any one have suggestion for a breakfast with low choline? Before I knew about TMAU, last month, I have been eating just cereal , milk, banana, apple and yogurt for my entire life for breakfast. However, all of them are not good for people with TMAU, as -- I suspect -- me. I really do not know what to eat for breakfast in order to get some relief for my BB. Any suggestion?
As far as I know apples, bananas and joghurt arent that good for TMAU, so you should avoid them. Im not on any diet, in fact Im on a high choline diet and eat everything that Im not allowed once I get positive tested for TMAU and as Im told you should not do a low choline diet before you get tested for TMAU, coz it can alter test results. So just try a fast low-high choline diet to see if you get a response and if so go testing.
Thanks! I will try the diet. I am eager to know if my problem is related to the food since I do not feel well with certain foods and my BB is worst when I have high choline. However, there are a few food with low choline. It is a very hard diet. I am used to eat a lot of banana, apple, cereal, and yoghurt. It will be really hard not to have them everyday. Last month, when I knew nothing about the effect of these foods, I decided to try Bliss k-12 recommeded by Dr. Kartz. Thus,I followed his instructions of taking that probiotic with yogurt. So, instead of having a fresh BB, I had the opposite. I noticed by people reaction that in those days I was taking Bliss K-12 my BB was terrible. It was so terrible that I decided looking for other information about my problem in a group such this one. I am glad that I found you guys. I find more trusty information from most of you than many doctors who say being specialist on BB. I am tired of many doctors who want to insist that the main cause of BB is in the mouth. One of the specialists in BB knew after many attempts to cure my BB that my problem was not in the mouth. However, she continued insisting me that it was for not having enough saliva. As for me, I have never complained about not having enough saliva. So, I am tired of products just for the mouth or products destined to people who have BB sporadically.
After four days in a diet with very low choline, I had a terrible headache for 24 hours. This morning I had to try food with choline in order to know if the headache was due to absence of choline. After eating some cereal, a little of yogurt, and banana, my headache disapeared. Unfortunately, I had to do that before trying to see if my BB had improvement because I will have mid-term exams this week. That is, with such a headache, I would not be able to study to my exams. Does aneone experiment headache while doing a diet with low choline?
Maybe it was just because you stopped the intake of choline suddenly. I think you should do it slowly.Iris wrote:After four days in a diet with very low choline, I had a terrible headache for 24 hours. It is true, I did a very serously diet with very low choline. I was not feeling well for that. I was weak besides of the headache. I will try again, but slowly after the exams. What is interesting is that after around 30 minutes I took my breakfast with high choline, my husband said that my BB was strong. Usually he does not smeel at all, but today he smelled it. I was wondering if I had it before the breakfast or not. It is difficult to say exactly when it is strong or no because he cannot smell all the times. One of the doctors said that my husband is already used to my smell and therefore he cannot smell it. However, he smells sometimes. Maybe I have more than one cause of BB and he smell one of them when it appears. These are just mine suspicious.
