Hi Cara

The dr said they usually prescribe metronidazole, neomycin, doxycyclin and amoxicillin combo. I have an appointment on january 14th, however I don't see anitbiotics as a solution.

What is lactulose? sounds interesting are you taking it to help digest lactose?

Have you had that injection to bring on the menopause so you don't have to go through the smell worsening during periods?

Hi Malory,

Wow, that’s quite the combo! Some people that have been diagnosed with TMAU2 have been cured with a single course of antibiotics so it might be worth considering.

Lactulose is a laxative that’s supposed to decrease the intestinal transit time and possibly reduce the amount of TMA produced in the gut. I don’t know if it’s regularly prescribed in the UK but it is for people in the US with TMAU. I never used any laxatives myself because I haven’t had any problems in that department. :)

I hadn’t heard of those injections before. Sounds scary! I guess if it works though it would be worth it. I’ve managed to get my odour under control for over 2 years now with a low choline diet and supplements. I’ve never been able to smell myself so I don’t know if I smelled worse during my period or not.

Are you going to the meetup this Saturday? I would love to attend something like that but I live in Canada so I guess I’m out!

Cheers, C
